It is time again for the Annual EllwoodCity.org Halloween Costume Contest. Traditional fall temperatures met the many participants and onlookers who packed downtown Ellwood City on Saturday as part of the annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade. Ellwood City used a strong running game powered by Elijah Palmer-McCane to rout Riverside 41-0 Friday Night at Riverside Memorial Stadium. The ‘RivEll Cup’ victory also clinched the Wolverines first playoff berth since 2011. Palmer-McCane scored four first half rushing touchdowns as the visiting Wolverines jumped out to a 35-0 halftime advantage. In the first quarter, Palmer-McCane scored from 1-yard out and later in the quarter from 41-yards out. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

DUI/CRASH/EVADING POLICE: Isiah Carr, 28, of Ellwood City, is facing 17 charges after a vehicle crash into trailer, home during police chase on October 14th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 11:05 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Guy Way, Wayne Township for a welfare check. One scene police observed Carr slumped over the steering wheel of a silver Nissan Altima, parked in a driveway. Fluharty Claims WPIAL Individual Championship, Ellwood City Finishes 3rd Overall

Lexi Fluharty finished 1st Overall in the WPIAL Class-A Cross Country Championships at White Oak Park in McKeesport on Thursday. The Riverside senior finished with a time of 18:54.50.  Fellow Panther runners Brooke Wissinger (20:48.10) and Isabella D’Allessandro (30:39.90) helped pace the Riverside team effort in the girls Class-A Championships. Henry S. Winkler, Jr., 95

Henry S. Winkler, Jr., 95, a longtime resident of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023, in the Haven Convalescent Home, New Castle. Mr. Winkler was born February 7, 1928, in Sharon, a son of the late Henry Winkler, Sr. and Mary (Glontz) Winkler. Raised in New Castle, he graduated from Ne-Ca-Hi in 1948 after serving a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy during WWII at only 17 years of age. Following high school, Henry worked for Penn Power of New Castle. He then enrolled at St. Vincent College, Latrobe, graduated in 1947, and completed his…

Claire Noble led Ellwood City to their straight set victory over Central Valley Monday evening in the prelim round of the WPIAL 2A playoffs. “It was great to give our seniors one last game on our home court with the excitement of post-season play,” said head coach Jenna Ricciuti. Man Arrested In Perry Township Homicide Investigation

Yohance Mercer-Huffman, 28, was taken into custody on Saturday, October 21st at approximately 4:00 p.m. in connection with the September homicide on River Road, Perry Township that left a Corry, PA woman dead. According to a police report, and on October 20th, PA State Police filed criminal charges in Magisterial District Court 53-3-01 against Mercer-Huffman, in connection with the shooting of Julie Anne Wegmiller and her husband Edwin Wegmiller.
