Groundbreaking for the Stonecrest Business Park will take place on Thursday, March 28th at 8:30 a.m. at 2298 Route 18 in New Beaver Borough. The 213-acre former site of Stonecrest Golf Course will be the first privately developed park built in Lawrence County in more than 40 years. Bernstine Announces C2P2 Grant To Fund Rehabilitation of Wampum Park

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) announced grants totaling $171,300 have been awarded to Butler and Lawrence counties to fund two recreational improvement projects through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2). “Parks and recreation centers provide gathering places for families and social groups, as well as for individuals of all ages and economic status,” said Bernstine. “Development projects are vital to our district as they provide job opportunities to those in surrounding areas and, upon completion, help increase tourism in our communities.” Wampum Borough in Lawrence County will receive a grant of $73,000 to rehabilitate Wampum Park. Former Wampum Man Pleads to Violating Federal Drug and Gun Laws

A former Wampum resident pleaded guilty in federal court to violating the federal narcotics and firearms laws, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced this week. Michael Turner, 49, formerly of Wampum, PA, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon before United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that beginning in 2019, agents with the FBI and other agencies investigated drug trafficking activity in Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood, and elsewhere. Wampum held its 49th Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday. Over 50 units, including cars, floats, bands and marching groups participated in the parade. which is billed as the biggest Christmas parade in Lawrence County. This year the parade was dedicated to Frank Yoho of Wayne Township, who had portrayed Santa Claus in the parade for 28 years.
