Several local athletes qualified for states during the Track WPIAL Championships yesterday held at Baldwin High School. Riverside Qualifiers: Lance Fisher is the best in the WPIAL Class 2A in both discus and shot put. Calvin Wetzel took first in Boys 300 Meter Hurdles AA. Former Panther Standout Named GLIAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year

Tiffin University right-hander Michael Boswell finished his rookie campaign with five wins in 11 appearances, helping the Dragons post their best winning percentage in program history. For his efforts, Boswell was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman Pitcher of the Year, the first time a Tiffin player has ever taken the award. Boswell finished second on the team in innings and wins, and averaged 8.02 strikeouts per nine innings. Jeannette Throws Shutout as Riverside Panthers Varsity Defeats Lincoln

Adam Jeannette didn’t allow a single run as Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Lincoln 10-0 on Wednesday. Jeannette allowed just two hits and struck out Roth to end the game. An early lead helped propel Riverside Panthers Varsity to victory. Riverside Panthers Varsity scored on a walk by Austin Dambach, a single by Gunnar Boehm, and a grand slam by Danny Fox in the first inning. The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation hosted their annual opening day ceremony Saturday at Friedhoff Field – an event which the organizations Vice President, Michael Widmaier, said was a success. “The weather held off until the end, parents and grandparents paraded with their kids, the high school baseball players applauded the young players as they paraded onto the field, Mayor Court attended, and Nathan Scott threw the first pitch. Ellwood City Wolverines Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Beaver Falls Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Beaver Falls 7-6 in a back-and-forth affair on Wednesday. The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the sixth when Jordan Recce reached on a dropped third strike. Despite falling down by four runs in the seventh inning, Beaver Falls tried to fight back.
