A 26-year-old Butler County Community College program that offers qualified high school sophomores through seniors the opportunity to earn reduced-cost, transferrable college credits has set records this fall in enrollment, in seats occupied and in credits pursued. Ellwood City used a strong running game powered by Elijah Palmer-McCane to rout Riverside 41-0 Friday Night at Riverside Memorial Stadium. The ‘RivEll Cup’ victory also clinched the Wolverines first playoff berth since 2011. Palmer-McCane scored four first half rushing touchdowns as the visiting Wolverines jumped out to a 35-0 halftime advantage. Sam Hughes scampered for two touchdowns to lead the Riverside Panthers to their first victory of the season, a 19-0 victory over rival Ellwood City on Friday night during Homecoming at Riverside’s Memorial Stadium. Madeline Dimeo was named Riverside Homecoming Queen during halftime. The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines used a 21-1 second quarter surge to race past the visiting Riverside Panthers 45-11 Monday Night at Lincoln High School. In what could amount to a collective draw between rival districts this week, the Riverside girls basketball team collected victory on Monday while the Ellwood City boys team was victorious last night.
