Riverside Swimming Wraps Up Its Appearance In PIAA State Championships

The Riverside Swimming team competed in the PIAA State Championships this past weekend at Bucknell University. “My assistant, David Peffer, and I are beyond proud of how our boys did this past weekend,” said head coach Alaina Marshall. “The bar at the competition level continues to be raised every year and our small team remains competitive amongst the best of them.” On Saturday, senior Joseph Roth broke his own 100-Yard Backstroke state record at finals with a time of 48.34, but was just out-touched at the finish by Luke Lamb of North Catholic. Wolverines Surge In Second Half, Defeat Westmont 62-44 In PIAA Opening Round

Ellwood City used a second half surge to pull away and defeat District 6 Champion Westmont 62-44 in the opening round of the PIAA 3A Playoffs on Saturday. The Wolverines held the Hilltoppers to only 12 points in the second half and recovered from three point deficit in the process. Joseph Roth led all scorers with 31 points. The senior hauled in 17 rebounds and added seven assists. Roth scored 11 points in the the first quarter as Ellwood City struck for 21 points, but the Wolverines trailed 32-29 at halftime. Fluharty Takes 3rd Overall At PIAA Championships, Ellwood City Boys Place 7th Overall

Riverside Panther senior Lexi Fluharty posted a 3rd overall finish in the PIAA Class-A Cross Country individual championships at Parkview XC Course in Hershey, PA on Saturday. Fluharty, who won the WPIAL Championship last month, finished with an overall time of 19:28 on Saturday. Her time and finish was the best finish by a WPIAL District 7 participant. Junior Darren McDade broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday as Riverside rallied again to collect a 8-5 victory over Punxsutawney in the Class-3A PIAA semifinals at Jack Critchfield Park on the campus of Slippery Rock University. Christian Lucarelli and the Riverside Panthers had everything working on Thursday, winning big over Fairview 9-3 at Jack Critchfield Park on the campus of Slippery Rock University. No stranger to one run deficits, the Riverside Panthers mounted yet another late inning comeback Monday in earning a PIAA opening round victory over visiting Tyrone. Ellwood City’s Unified Bocce team earned a third place finish at the PIAA Interscholastic Unified Bocce State Championships last week in Hershey, PA. Ellwood City Bocce Team Advances To PIAA/SOPA State Championships

The Ellwood City Bocce Team has advanced to the PIAA/SOPA State Championships! The team collected three victories and a first place finish at the regional championships held last week at Geneva College. There were 10 schools from the different sections represented. The top two teams advanced, and the Wolverines were one of them. Ellwood City defeated Bethel Park, 7-2, and Pine Richland, 5-3, before wrapping up their impressive performance with a 12-2 victory over Chartiers Valley in their final match. Four Riverside Swimmers Set To Compete At PIAA State Swimming Championships

Senior Sam Kline leads a host of four Riverside swimmers who have qualified and will participate in the PIAA Class 2A State Swimming Championships this week at the Kinney Natatorium at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA The Riverside swim team also sends two relay teams to the Class 2A championships scheduled to take place March 15th and 16th. Riverside junior Lexi Fluharty finished runner-up Thursday afternoon in the WPIAL Class-A Cross Country Championships held at California University of Pennsylvania.
