After one quarter, things looked bright for the Wolverines as the early score was only 7-0 Central Valley, but…football is a four-quarter sport. You can even say the Wolverines had a decent second half only giving up another 7 points there. However, the second quarter turned out to be the big blow for the Wolverines as 4 scores alone in the quarter put things out of reach by halftime in the resulting 42-7 Central Valley victory on Friday night. The Holy Redeemer 5lst Annual Bazaar started Wednesday, August 2 and will run through Saturday August 5. The excitement and fun begin at 6:00 p.m. nightly and runs until 10:00 p.m. on the Holy Redeemer Catholic Center grounds. The Bazaar features entertainment for the whole family. ‘Creating memorable events were the new inflatable bounces for young children who really had an enjoyable time. Additionally, there was the popular “Kiddie Land” and face painting for the kids that was a huge hit. The annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts & Food Festival took place this past weekend and those exhibiting and attending enjoyed beautiful weather and included a wide variety of activities, performances and vendors for everyone in the Ellwood City community to enjoy! In the annual 10k race, which took place Saturday morning, Ellwoodian Doug Petrik was victorious yet again. The Festival Committee is all volunteer and the Committee is a non-profit organization, solely in existence as the driving force to make the Festival happen! PHOTOS: Lincoln High Graduate Receives Tommy Novosel Scholarship

Dominic Nocera, a 2017 graduate of Lincoln High School, Ellwood City was awarded the second Tommy Novosel Scholarship at a service on May 28th at the Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish in Ellwood City. Dominic was a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership, Student Council and Club Hope. He was an altar server at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a volunteer for the Carpenter’s Project. His future studies will be in Biomedical Engineering – Prosthetics. Skyla Greco didn’t allow a single hit as Wolverines defeated Steel Valley 5-0 on Tuesday. To get the final out Greco struck out Veronica Sikora pushing her game total to 14 strikeouts against three walks in the contest. Wolverines took an early lead in the second inning.    In the section opener for Ellwood City, the Wolverine bats heated up just like the weather. The offense banged out 13 hits in just 3 innings of work as the game was halted by the mercy rule. Ariana Garroway and Zoe Kalantzis both hit shots that left the yard. Garroway finished the day 3-3 with a 3 run blast, scored twice and totaled 4 rbi’s. The Lady Wolverines started the season off on the right foot with a 13-3 victory over the Union Scotties on Saturday. The game was halted after 5 innings due to the mercy rule.
