Free Apprenticeship Readiness Program for Students Set for February

Butler, PA- Butler County Community College will offer a free month-long apprenticeship readiness program employing a nationally recognized curriculum designed to prepare 16 participants for applications with Western Pennsylvania building and construction trade unions, according to Kathleen Strobel, BC3’s coordinator of business training. BC3’s apprenticeship readiness program, like that offered by three other Western Pennsylvania community colleges through May, is intended to assist those interested in the trades to successfully apply to and be accepted into tuition-free apprenticeship training programs with 16 unions and their partner contractors, Strobel said. Winter Weather in Forecast

You may have noticed a couple snow flurries flying around this morning, which is just the start to the winter weather season. According to the 10-day weather forecast on Weather.com snow showers are expected in the upcoming weeks. Important things to keep in mind: it might be warm enough to rain during the day but the rain may freeze over night causing black ice, bridges ice before roads, and the new anti- dog tethering law is in effect this winter for the first time. Ellwood City Historical Society Annual Picnic

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will host its annual picnic beginning at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 in Ewing Park’s shelter No. 8, which is located in the back loop of the park. The event is open to the public and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share and their own table service. The society will furnish the meat, drinks and dessert. The guest speaker will be Dan Vogler, Lawrence County commissioner chairman, who will talk on two subjects.
