PHOTOS: Chalk The Town Event

Along with Relay For Life moving to downtown Ellwood City, an idea formed about doing a sidewalk chalk art contest.  Team North Sewickley Walkers took the challenge on putting together this first time event.  As Saturday June 10, 2017 dawned relayers awoke to thunder and rain, upon arriving downtown Lawrence avenue our sidewalk area was wet.  We hope it will dry by noon or the chalk may not write on the squares, thank goodness it dried.  The young artist started to register at noon and went right away to work creating their works of art each with a bag of…

Bernstine Backs Pension Reform to Better Protect Taxpayers

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives’ bipartisan vote to reform Pennsylvania’s two public pension systems, which have a combined unfunded liability of more than $62.7 billion: “While this legislation won’t make all our pension problems disappear, it represents a meaningful step that will reduce our massive unfunded liability by more than $5 billion. The Ellwood City Art Club was founded in 1949 with one simple vision – to provide a place dedicated to enhancing art in Ellwood City. 2017 marks the clubs 69th year anniversary, but manager of Dayspring Gifts, member of the art club, and advocate for the importance of art in the community, Jan Keenan, fears the future of the club may not be so bright. Hartman Students to Showcase Robotic Creations at Public Event

The fifth and sixth grade students from the Hartman Arts and Bot Summer School Club will be showcasing their work Friday June 9th from 9:30-11AM at Ellwood City Public Library. Animated robotic animals from the picture book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do See? by Erie Carle will be on display. Mentored by teachers, Alan Marsh, Matt Skoczylas, and Scott Setzenfand, students built robots from cardboard and craft material. Using a “Hummingbird Kit” circuit board, they programmed the robots to light up and move! Teddy Bear Run to Benefit Akron Children’s Hospital

The God Chasers Motorcycle Club is taking donations for their Teddy Bear Run event to benefit children at the Akron Children’s Hospital. Although the motorcycle club organizes fund raisers for different causes throughout the year, this is the first year the club has organized the Teddy Bear Run for the children’s hospital, and club member Reverend Mike Wimer says they have already received great support. “Along with the generous donations made by the club members, fellow motorcyclists, and the public, we have had donations from many local businesses including the Burgh Bar and the New Castle Lowes – even Build-A-Bear…

Mayor’s Advisory Meeting Recap

On Thursday, May 25, 2017 the Mayor’s Advisory Committee met in Mayor Courts Office. Discussion included the parking ticket issue on Wampum Avenue, complaints voiced concerning a large black dog around Crestview and Skyline Drive. Mayor Court is urging people to trim their hedges when they get too high so that they do not obstruct traffic. The fight against drugs continues with 393 arrests since Mayor Court took office. The Mayor’s Beautification Award program has begun with one Award being presented already. The Mayor wants everyone to know that they can nominate anyone if they wish to do so. On…

The Sweet Shop Opening This Weekend

According to a live video posted by the owners of the Sweet Shop, the Lawrence Avenue shop is set to open this Saturday, June 3! They will be open from 8a.m. until the evening and will offer customers a variety of home made cookies, cupcakes, candy, chocolate covered fruit, and ice cream. “We are so excited and we hope Ellwood is just as excited as we are.” Watch their posted video below:
