Lady Wolverines Rally Late, Knock Off Central Valley 6-4

Ellwood City used a late rally, on the road, Monday to earn a 6-4 victory against unbeaten section foe Central Valley. After training 4-0 entering the top of the six inning, the Wolverines struck for four runs and added two more in the seventh to pull away to victory. Ellie Kalantzis connected on a pivotal home run in the sixth inning rally and Kiley LeViere singled in the frame to knot the score. Schwarz Drives In 5 Runs, Wolverines Remain Unbeaten

Sara Schwarz drove in five runs to lead Ellwood City to a 10-8 road victory over New Castle on Tuesday. Ellwood City (5-0 Overall) built a seven run lead in the fifth inning and then held off a comeback attempt by the Red Hurricanes. New Castle go on the board in the first inning after Olivia Hood walked and was brought home by way of a RBI ground out by Aycealea Rose. COACH TALK: Softball Seasons Are Underway

Ellwood City and Riverside softball seasons are underway. Each team will look to return to their respective WPIAL class playoffs. Nine starters are back for Ellwood City and head coach Gary Rozanski is looking to improve in all aspects of the game. Ellwood City sophomore Will Nardone pitched six scoreless innings Wednesday afternoon as the Wolverines easily dismantled the visiting Central Valley Warriors 10-0 at Sanders Field. Nardone allowed only three singles on the afternoon. He stuck out five batters while issuing only three walks. Offensively, senior Chase Wilson reached base four times (3-3, 2 RBIs, 1 BB) and scored three runs for the Wolverines. EC Baseball, Softball Each Rebound With Victories

Both Ellwood City baseball and softball teams each rebounded from recent losses last week with victories over the weekend. The Lady Wolverines lost a heartbreaking 2-1 extra innings affair to its rival Riverside on Thursday, but rebounded to hand section foe Hopewell its first section loss on Friday. Ellwood City avenged an earlier section loss Friday as they beat Hopewell 6-0 at Stiefel Park.  With just four games left, the title is very much up for grabs as Hopewell leads with a record of 5-1 followed by Ellwood City and Central Valley tied for second with 4-2 section slates.  Mohawk…

Ellwood City Varsity Softball Easily Dispatches Beaver Falls; Junior High Knocks Off Riverside

The Wolverines varsity softball team scored 15 runs for the second consecutive game – this time it took just three innings for the mercy rule to end things as they beat Beaver Falls 15-0 Wednesday evening. Ellwood City outfielder Lexi Beck capped a five run first inning attack with a two run double to left field scoring Keira Rozanski and Ellie Kalantzis. Wolverines Blast Blackhawk, Rozanski Earns 200th Career Victory

Ellwood City made quick work of Blackhawk Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park, earning head coach Gary Rozanski his 200th career coaching victory. The non-section contest was halted after five innings as the Lady Wolverines mercy ruled the Cougars 15-1. The Wolverines started quickly Tuesday as Amber Mcquistion knocked in Julie Nardone with a single and Sara Schwarz knocked in two more with a line drive to right field to make it 3-0. Lady Wolverines Nip Mohawk 4-3, Improves to 4-1 Overall

Wednesday evening’s game between Ellwood City and Mohawk at Stiefel Park had a playoff feel even though it was just the second section game for both squads. Both pre-season favorites to compete for the section crown entered the game with 0-1 section records and the winner would jump right back into the section race while the loser would be in a deeper hole. Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams. For the Lady Wolverines, a playoff streak currently rests at eight straight seasons, and the girls will look to it nine this spring.
