Ellwood City School Board Finance Committee Meeting Scheduled

In a public meeting nocie announcement, the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors has scheduled a Finance Committee Meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 8, 2021 starting at 6:00 p.m. The combined Committee and Regular Board meeting will follow as previously scheduled. The meetings will be conducted in the Leslie Sabo Auditorium at Lincoln High School, 501 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

Ellwood City School Board January Meeting Brief

On Thursday, January 10, the Ellwood City Area School District Board of Directors held their monthly board meeting in the Board Room at Lincoln High School. Ellwood School Board Amends Academic Competition Policy

Controversy ensued at Thursday’s Ellwood City Area School Board meeting when the board voted to approve amendments to its academic competition policy. The amendments were requested by board member Renee Pitrelli to better promote students involved in competitions. According to Pitrelli, the new policy will enable the district to support academics as much as athletics and leadership. Board members Jennifer Tomon and Danielle Woodhead believed the amendments were too vague and requested tabling the motion in order to polish the language. Ellwood City School Board April Meeting Brief

Festival Parking Lot Issue Resolved The board passed a motion resolving an ongoing parking issue with the festival committee. District organizations, such as the football boosters, have historically used festival car parking as a fundraising method. However, a new district policy concerning licensing/subcontracting and confusion over which organizations the festival would award the parking lots to resulted in a delay in the board granting the lots to the festival committee. Visitors Request Security Improvements for Ellwood School District

The Ellwood City School Board agreed to examine forming a safety committee following visitor concerns during its agenda meeting on Monday. In the wake of last month’s Florida school shooting, several Ellwood school district residents bonded together to address safety issues with the board. Chief among concerns were improving internal security, entrance to the school buildings as well as individual classrooms, and reducing bullying. Visitors also requested the district to implement a safety committee, as Riverside School District has done.
