North Side Students Give Back to Ellwood City Community

North Side Primary Students and Staff welcomed many Community Members and Partners to our school on Monday, December 18th. During the month of December, students are learning how good it makes all of us feel to GIVE. Ellwood City held its annual Light Up Night in downtown Ellwood City on Friday with the official lighting of the Christmas tree and ensuing fireworks display. After a year hiatus, the event returned with various activities for families and vendors set up on Lawrence Avenue. A horse-drawn sleigh, a local singer, a DJ and a brass quintet playing Christmas carols all welcomed visitors for Ellwood City and the surrounding communities who descended on Lawrence Avenue for the evening. Local radio station WXED 107.3 FM is holding its 3rd annual local business Christmas jingle contest. WAYBACK WEDNESDAY: Ellwood City Nativity Scene

It has been nearly a decade since circumstances forced the removal of a Nativity scene set in front of the Ellwood City Municipal Building washing out 50 years of tradition in Ellwood City. In 2011, the Freedom from Religion Foundation threatened to sue Ellwood City if officials didn’t remove a Nativity scene that the borough had erected on the property. Ultimately, borough officials agreed to move the Nativity to a different location. Borough Christmas Tree Disposal Information

When the gifts are all unwrapped, and the leftovers have been in the fridge for a few days, most people begin to take down their festive decorations. For those with live trees in their homes, the end of the season means trying to figure out where to dispose of the Christmas tree. Announced Friday, Borough residents can take their trees to Stiefel Park through January 31 for disposal. Important Christmas Parade Information

The annual Ellwood City Christmas Parade will march down Lawrence Avenue Saturday, December 1st at 3:30. The parade will start at the intersection of 4th Street and Lawrence Avenue and end at the intersection of 8th Street and Lawrence Avenue. Staging will take place in the Holy Redeemer School parking lot. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 2:45 and enter the lot at Crescent Avenue and 3rd Street. As we are beginning to prepare for the upcoming holiday season, Ellwood City has begun preparing for towns holiday events. The goal is to work together with community organizations and businesses to help provide family friendly events that will help kick off the holiday season. School Choirs to Perform Carols at Community Plaza

On Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 there will be two local choirs performing Christmas carols at the Community Plaza. At 10:30a.m. the Ellwood City Area School District Concert Choir will be performing, conducted by Felicia Greco, Senior High Choral Director, and at 11:30a.m. the Laurel Area School District Choir will be performing, conducted by Kristen Clingerman.
