Traveling Baseball Team Conducts Ewing Park Clean Up

Below is a photo of the Jeff Potter Baseball Tour. They are a traveling Baseball team that travels throughout PA, Maryland and West Virginia doing community service and playing baseball games for different communities. Jeff Potter is originally from Ellport Borough and was an exceptional Baseball Player. Today the Potter Traveling team conducted a clean up at the Ewing Park Nature Trail followed by lunch and drinks compliments from Red Hot, McDonald’s, and Johnny’s Pizza. They will play at Sanders Field tonight at 6pm and then travel throughout different parts of Pennsylvania before heading back to Maryland. Submitted photo

Ellwood City Wolverines upset the number two seed, the Steel Valley Ironmen 7-2 in WPIAL quarterfinal baseball 3A action Monday afternoon at Burkett Complex in Robinson Township. The Wolverines would score 4 runs in the first inning as Steel Valley Starter Tanner Cannon struggled. He walked two and hit a batter and gave up 4 straight singles. Tyler Good had a big RBI single in the first. They would tag on a run in the 4th to make it 5-0 with 2 singles and a sacrifice. Anthony Roth would get the RBI single. Former Panther Standout Named GLIAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year

Tiffin University right-hander Michael Boswell finished his rookie campaign with five wins in 11 appearances, helping the Dragons post their best winning percentage in program history. For his efforts, Boswell was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman Pitcher of the Year, the first time a Tiffin player has ever taken the award. Boswell finished second on the team in innings and wins, and averaged 8.02 strikeouts per nine innings. The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation hosted their annual opening day ceremony Saturday at Friedhoff Field – an event which the organizations Vice President, Michael Widmaier, said was a success. “The weather held off until the end, parents and grandparents paraded with their kids, the high school baseball players applauded the young players as they paraded onto the field, Mayor Court attended, and Nathan Scott threw the first pitch.
