Does anyone have more info on the break-in in Perry Township?
Which one are you refering to?

The local police did not investigate it. State Police took care of it. I'm sure it will be in the paper.

Question? What does hiring more police have to do with the problems in Ellwood City. As for the incident on Lawrence Ave., should the police be standing at the door of all the bars in Ellwood to make sure nothing is going to happen. I say, get the police on the walking beat, like it was years ago. Maybe then they will see more. What do you see riding around in a car? I remember seeing police walking Lawrence Ave., down 5th St. across the 5th St. bridge and along Wampum Ave. Not Now! I am lucky to see a police car once in a while.
let's make something happen.

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head....getting them to walk a beat especially at night near the problem areas. Park the cruisers nearby on Main St. and get out and make a presence. Get these new drug dogs out with them too. Zero tolerance for drugs will clean up this town. If they complain about not getting paper work done hire a secretary to help them out or give them 2 hrs of their shift to do it. Its real simple folks!

READ KATES WEBSITE BEFORE YOU POST FACTS THAT ARE NOT TRUE. HER INSURANCE COMPANY APPROVED THE STEM CELL HARVEST. READ THE CORRECT INFORMATION BELOW COPIED RIGHT FROM HER WEBSITE:

"After the telephone conference between the stem cell doctor and the insurance company doctor reversed their decision and have approved the transplant".

Does Ellwood City Boro pay the townships for the use of their police departments when they answer calls in the boro, your does the township taxpayers pick up the tab?

Thank u for putting the pictures if Light Up Night on. They look very nice. My daughter is thrilled to be on there.

11/20/06 (11)
Why did you not post my thoughts on the Ellwood City Wolverines. Are you afraid of the truth that people might be hearing. This is to be the site that everyone can talk and hopefully have a feed back from other people that are involved. You might think about that before you post double conversation and not allow the space to be taken by someone who cares and know what the heck is going on in the so called family sports

11/20/06 (12)
Isnt this just a GREAT thing for our Mayor to announce in the newpaper!! Just gives the druggies more reason to be here!!

In Ellwood City, police have to carry out drug investigations in addition to their regular duties. New Castle's department, which handles roughly 50 percent more overall calls than Ellwood City's, has a unit dedicated to narcotics enforcement.
"I wish we had more drug arrests," Clyde said. "It's one of those things that is very hard and takes a long time to develop."

11/20/06 (13)
REPLY TO 11/17/06----Not all women married over 10 years treat their husbands like that!!!! I have been married 32....I take good care of my husband and do not take him for granted!!! I have never ever even thought of cheating, why?, because I was married in front of God and took vows that I will keep until the day I die and then. I HATE bars, there is only trouble there, why?, because of what you are doing there----drinking. It's like a drug, it alters your thinking....and you do stupid things, and innocent people get hurt including children.

11/20/06 (14)
For years when my children were growing up, I prayed that things would improve in Ellwood City, and they would want to live here, and have prosperous lives here. Well, just read this website (it's a good site), but you see just what is happening in Ellwood City. One of the comments on here spoke of the hatefulness....so true! HELP!
My children do not live in EC, but are close enough to see them frequently....thank you, Lord.

11/20/06 (15)
Think you have misjudged our mayor, seems like he is doing his part on the drugs situations in this town. Why would you want to negativitly comment on him unless you are the people involved in these matters.

11/20/06 (16)

This is to congratulate the First Grade students at Holy Redeemer School who performed the "Turkey on Strike" play. These children are to be commended for their outstanding efforts that made this an enjoyable treat for all who attended.

P.S. The kids received a standing ovation!!!

How about the poor wife that works a 40+ hr job comes home does all the cooking, cleaning, clothes washing, cuts the grass, takes out the garbage, washes the car, runs the kids everywhere while the husband does nothing but sit and watch tv or go out with his friends. It goes both ways sir.

11/20/06 (20)
Agreeing with this comment but they would have had to done something for this many negative releases would you not think so.

No, it's an Ellwood thing and if they want you out they will find a way to do so, I'm hoping they both are able to endure til next election for them.

11/20/06 (21)
Why do you allow Family Dollars name to be printed but when I submit posts about a real problem establishment they aren't posted?

I bet I know what establishment you are talking about! The same one my comments wern't posted about!

11/20/06 (22)
Cats was simply amazing! Great job to all the cast and everyone else who helped out! I enjoyed it so much!!

[11/17/06 (35)
I was wondering why Perry Township doesn't hire a full time officer and maybe one part time officer? They already have an experienced officer for a chief why not use him.]

I agree 100%!! We need better police protection in the township. I don't care if taxes have to go up to do it!!! This is a far more important issue than potholes.

11/20/06 (24)
Man oh! man I read the comment that Betty gave and we men don't stand a chance if that gets to women once they figure it out . You Dudes better get rid of the computers were dead secret to manhood is out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so SICK of the way people drive in this town. It's all a game until someone gets hurt or worse.

11/20/06 (28)
If the citizens of Ellwood City would like more police officers...then isn't it time you demanded council approve the funding for this. From my understanding the Mayor is all for more law enforcement...demand that your council person support approving this!!

I understand your point. But think of it this way: If something like that hit close to your home or nieghborhood or even family or friend, How would you feel??

11/20/06 (30)
I just came from the most entertaining evening I have had in a long time. I enjoyed very much the fantastic and awesome performance of "CATS" put on by our Lincoln High School students and let me tell you we are very lucky to have such talented young people representing Ellwood City!!!!! Congratulations!!to all involved in putting on this fantastic performance! Very well done!! Props, special effects, just excellent!!! To Laura Adams and the orchestra, congratulations !! Well Done!!

11/20/06 (31)
God Bless the talented cast and crew of Lincoln High's performance of CATS. The kids were amazing in both song and dance and the dedication of the adults involved is to be commended. Thank you for giving the community such a beautiful gift...I can't wait to see what you do next!!

11/20/06 (32)
kudos to cindy pertile,felicia greco,laura adams,allyisa lemon,angela pieri,angela lansberry.

you ladies did a great job with cats. never have i been more impressed with a play at lincoln high school and i've seen them all including cats on broadway. to the kids in the play i say to you that you were all just fabulous and you all made my day.the singing and dancing was spectacular. i was there on friday night and i had to come back saturday and i'm gonna go again today and skip the steeler game.

11/20/06 (33)
Not all kids in Ellwood City are bad. If you don't know what I am talking about you should have seen "CATS". The singing and the dancing to me were on the near professional level. These kids are so filled with talent and such an asset to Ellwood City!! The singing of Marissa Bunney brought tears to your eyes. The antics of Chris Nocera brought laughs, and the dancing of Faith Cortez left you spellbound. Lincoln High School has to have the best music department around!!! Laura Adams and the orchestra added to all of it and needs to be congratulated also!!

11/20/06 (34)
I went to see Cats last night and came away with a wonderful feeling. The director did an amazing job with the cast. They all did such an incrediable job.It is so good to see our boys and girls involved in a musical of this quility. So much talent. They played to a full house and standing ovation. Thank you all for your dedication to give us a night to remember. Barbara Franus Osborne

Demand soars
for autism-related schools, services
New businesses set up shop to fill the void

• The business of autism
Feb. 25: CNBC’s Sue Herera reports that as the number of children with autism increases, so does the demand for schools and services to help them.

Updated: 3:55 p.m. PT Feb 25, 2005
Max Asofsky was diagnosed with autism when he was 22 months old.

“He was still Max,” said his mother, Melanie. “He was still our son. It wasn't as if he had somehow changed. But the little things that we thought were so sweet and cute and funny and his little ‘Maxisms’ were autism.”

This year, as many as one in 166 children will be diagnosed with autism — that's up from one in 2,500 just a few years ago. Some are calling the explosion an epidemic. And as the number of children with autism has grown, the demand for services to help these children has skyrocketed.

Max attends The McCarton School in Manhattan, which was started in 2002 after developmental pediatrician Dr. Cece McCarton realized she had no place to refer patients diagnosed with autism.

“The schools that were there were so overloaded and there were absolutely huge waiting lists,” McCarton. “So we said, ‘OK, this makes absolutely no sense, we're going to start our own school.’"

Long waiting lists
Families pay $70,000 a year to send their kids to The McCarton School. Right now the schools can accommodate 22 children; there are more than 100 on the waiting list.

“I'm a physician and I’m supposed to help people,” said McCarton. “And it’s very hard to say to a parent, ‘I don't have room,’ or ‘Gee, I'm sorry you're now 54 on the waiting list.’ It is unconscionable to have to have somebody come to you for help for their child and say to them ‘I can't help you.’"

As the population of autistic children grows, so does the demand for therapists, particularly those trained in Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA. Keith Amerson and Alisa Dror opened the Tri-State Learning Center in New Rochelle, N.Y., in 2001 and currently provide ABA services to 35 families.

When you look at the demand for the services, they're high,” said Amerson. “When you look at the supply of providers and agencies, it's low.

— Keith Amerson
Tri-State Learning Center

“When you look at the demand for the services, they're high,” said Amerson. “When you look at the supply of providers and agencies, it's low. When you have a supply and demand situation, it provides a great opportunity from a business perspective. But also when you look at what you're doing, you're changing a family's life. And I think that for me is the most important thing.”

“At this point we're getting calls on a daily basis from families with newly diagnosed children,” said Dror. “That was really unheard of a number of years ago.”

With this much demand, it's no wonder that some therapists are earning up to $125 per hour. And as a result, more students are applying to university programs that provide training in ABA.

'They already have jobs'
This year, the Columbia University Teachers College program in Applied Behavior Analysis had so many applicants it had to turn away 40 qualified students. That's twice as many as it admitted.

“A lot of our folks go and start schools — they're Ph.D. people so there's a huge demand for those,” said Prof. Douglas Greer. “And so they'll be gone; I mean they already have jobs.”

“You can't be doing this for a paycheck," said Jeanne Speckman-Collins, a student in the program. “You need to be in it with your whole heart and with the right intentions and not be in it for the money.”

But some new businesses are making money. Different Roads to Learning is a catalog-based company that offers products specifically for schools and parents running ABA programs.

In its first year the company took in $200 in revenue. This year revenue will reach almost $2 million with profits of $100,000.

“Everyone in our organization understands how difficult and challenging the life is of living with autism,” said Julie Azuma, founder of Different Roads to Learning. “Whether your child is high-functioning Asperger's or someone with severe behaviors, we have a complete understanding of how difficult it is.”

Difficult emotionally and financially, with families often paying over $5,000 a month for home-based ABA programs, supplies and other therapies, with little or no insurance reimbursement.

“Everything's expensive,” said Melanie Asofsky. “It's a significant burden on the family, but obviously worth it. Worth every penny.”

The increased demand for professional services has also led to new sub-specialties in existing service areas. There are now real estate agents who know which school districts are best for kids with autism, lawyers who focus exclusively on special education law, and even dentists who specialize in treating children with autism.

As a past member of the Christmas in the Park committee I was very offended to read Wednesdays ledger. A lot of wonderful people pulled together to start and maintain this event! The statements printed couldn't be more hurtful or further from the truth! How dare she say that she used her own money to buy decorations! I was there years before she decided to get involved Why have all these people stopped? I drive through the displays each year and see only less community participation. I would like to see a list of new items, with their receipt purchased.

What are you trying to say? Do you need a  pat on the back?.

11/17/06 (03)
Does anyone think that between the mayor and magistrate and all the comments you've been unfair? There are other officals that are having the same related problems. How can they be seen as doing their jobs to the best of their abilities if the community keeps this mud slinging going? My opinion is that whether you care about them or not, they still have families that are getting hurt from all sound off chose to contribute to , would you appreciate reading all this about you and your family, no you wouldn't so I ask you to leave me and my family out of your vicious game so we can have some peace of mind, through the holidays. Thank you

Agreeing with this comment but they would have had to done something for this many negative releases would you not think so.

I would just like to say that the overwhelming number of criminal incidents in Ellwood City is on the rise. Everybody wants the nice little town of old and we are losing it to crime. Wake up people!!! I think that maybe we should spend more on law enforcement.

Where in this post do you even mention bullets flying around? I think there is a lot of BULL S##T FLYING AROUND.

To the person who drives the  Ford Explorer on Center Avenue like a maniac - STOP BLOWING THRU THE STOP SIGNS - YOU ARE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE.....his license should be taken off of him ....where are the police? The police need to sit on 11th street and watch all of the crazy drivers who do not stop at the stop sign

In reference to 11/16/06 (04)
It is evident that you are the only one without a grip on reality because if your pocket supervisor was so caring and concerned about the township, then full-time police would be a top priority. Get a grip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can yell also.

If you knew her at all you would know that she wants the police just as much as everyone else, just perhaps, not the police we have. She is trying to get the area a full time chief.

Come to a meeting on the second Thursday of each month and you will hear the truth.

And I think I speak louder than you when I ask who is this pocket supervisor? What the H--- are you talking about?

It's really sad that we have to be afraid to go out in our little town anymore.

11/17/06 (12)
The police are doing their job, what you don't understand is that two or three officers can not be more than one place at a time. the last post yesterday is true. please have a little compassion, if you have something to say tell it to the person not the whole community hiding behind your keyboard,

11/17/06 (13)
I am starting a support group in the Ellwood Area for families with children with Asperger's/ADHD/Autism. I attended and attend many other groups such as Cranberry CARES, Beaver Support group, and Jacob's Blessing in Butler. It is time we get together in our school district and be there for one another. I know there are others here in Ellwood City we just haven't been connected and it is really important that we do. I can not say enough about the connections and friends I have made in other areas and it is needed here as well. Please contact me at trjp1125@yahoo.com if you are interested in this idea. Thanks and remember, your family is not alone.
1 out of 500 children are being dx with these issues and it is only becoming more evident that is something that we must build awareness about. I know it can be hard to get out and try new things with the circumstances we have in our lives but, that is why we need one another to depend and rely on. We understand like no one else does what is going on and it is important to have support.
Thanks!!

ATTENTION CELL PHONE CONSUMERS/USERS:

***I would suggest contacting the FCC to alert them of this. They are the ones that mandate and enforce cellular laws and regulations. If this is happening to you, it may be happening to others, and yes, this could cause issues with identifying the user of the phone, etc. Normally prepaid phones have difficulty identifying users any way, but depending on the manufacturer, etc. this can be done. ***

Hello, I have three guys ages 8 down to 3. I am looking for activities for them that don't cost much or anything and mainly is available on weekends. With the way that both parents need to work in today's society, we have difficulty finding ways to go to activities throughout the week. My boys want to do football next year, but I'm not sure how to swing it with practices, etc. Anyone have ideas on this? Also, does anyone know when football registration for next year would be available since we always end up missing the sign ups? Thanks for any and all help/suggestions!

11/17/06 (20)
I just want to say THANK YOU to the great people that do the boxing in the police department downstairs. I have been down there with my son and please to say it nothing what I thought it would be like but yet I am a mom and I would think that makes a difference in the eyes of a protector. However I am very pleased by this great group of people that do this not for the money or for the fame and ask nothing of the parents that let their kids learn a new sports instead of football. Thank you very much for letting my kid know there is more that sitting on a bench in Ellwood City.

RE: 11/10/06 (12)
First off for another woman to take someones husband he would have had to have been unhappy to begin with. Just remember it takes two to tango! But here is another thing if a man is going to cheat on his wife it's not gonna matter if he is in a bar, supermarket or your local video store. And not all single woman want someones husband! I do agree with you that you don't need to go to bars!
I don't agree, I think that a man will try to get away with anything and if a woman is pushing it, he will "go for it", in hopes that he will not be found out, I think these single girls think thats it's a challenge to see if they can pry these men away from their wives!

the trouble is that most women married over 10 yrs now take their husbands for granted and no longer care for their needs and think the world evolves around them and their lives while their husbands work 90% of their lives to make ends meet only to come home to a cold nagging wife. and then these wives wonder why their husbands stray. show me a man whose wife loves him and shows it and i'll show you a man who no single woman or whoever can pry away.

RE: To Julie, yes things are terrible here everyone hates each other and keeps talking about everything they can find out to make it known. Some of them had the nerve to accuse our judge and the one before of having the same woman in their lives! Can you believe this, I pleased to hear that someone out of our area has mentioned how hateful all have become. It's aweful at the holidays.

This goes directly to everyone who continues to complain about what is going on in our community. First off, it was one shooting, one. Im not saying we should cheer, but it could be a whole lot worse. All the commments about being unsafe to go outside, please, we do not live in Compton. You can get shot anywhere, anytime, any city, any area, if your that afraid move to a private island. Thirdly, it's not the mayors fault, police, council, etc. They are all doing the best they can to protect each and every one of us. Drug dogs, be patient, things don't happen at once. However, it is amazing, because when all of the communities were pulling together to set up crime watch areas, it was always the same 10 people that showed up to each meeting. Get off your computer, get off this website, and begin doing something instead of writing and complaining. The internet will not stop shootings, the internet will not stop kids from being kids. Also, maybe we are not hearing so m!
uch about all of this because it is an "investigation" do you think you want these criminals to know everything the police are doing? What do you want, a play by play analysis of what they are investigating, so that the criminals can read it themselves. Please quit with the comments on how unsafe, unprotected, and useless this community is. That is the major problem with everyone these days, nobody is ever happy. You can still walk down main street, you can still walk at night, you can still do everything you always did. I'll leave you at this, by being scared, and secluded yourself, you are letting the criminals win.

11/17/06 (29)
Concerning all the comments on the cheating games in the world now a days there are 70% more single men compared to 45% woman that are cheating these days. Most of the reasons for this is simply the fact that men would rather be with married women knowing there is no threat to them in serious relationships. More men have been destroyed by their mothers that it makes it easier for them to feel threaten by the female gender. Single men can seem to deal with the facts easier than woman that there will not be the emotional trips they once trusted in. Most men have always dreamed of finding the woman that seems psychiclly inclinded to know what, when and how. Once this is discovered most men will agree they will decline from the adventures of their heart. While woman met someone and right away the bells begin ringing which is usually so far from the truth they end up destroying these men. It's a far cry from years ago when you meet and you marry. Those days folks are gone along !
with any mentions of living together. Seems to be easier to be happier ever after with someone elses better half. Things have changed and so have the reasons this is taking over in society today. Only one question how can you be content knowing the person you are spending time with will be going home to his and or her husband? Just something to think about, priorities are going in the reverse direction. More than likely all will be forgotten after the vows are taken. Most couples end up marring because of pregancies which has proven over the years to create issues that will go along with them for a lifetime. Hoping all well back in Ellwood City, will be anious to be back for your great 4th of July festival days.

Maybe the selection in Ellwood doesn't like what YOU have to offer!

Oh believe me, they like it just fine! The problem is I bore easily and the men here in Ellwood bore me to death.

Another robbery!! The Family Dollar store (Franklin Twp.) was robbed at knifepoint yesterday (Tuesday)...from the description I heard, it sounds like the same person that robbed Dollar General on Saturday night.

Why do you allow Family Dollars name to be printed but when I submit posts about a real problem establishment they aren't posted?

Mr. TD is saddened over the news of two area high school football coaches recently turning in their resignations. Agostonelli and Greco -- two energetic young men who were in it for the right reasons. So what if they didn't win as many games as Aliquippa or Blackhawk...the kids enjoyed themselves and built lasting memories that they'll always cherish. Mr. TD plans on throwing his hat into the ring and applying for the Ellwood City coaching position...who says an old former star athlete from Ellport can't get the job done at Lincoln???

Then we'll know who you are!

Thank you

I completely understand what you are saying/asking. But I do have some questions for you. When your spouse comes to you and declared they want to run for office, did you agree it would be a great opportunity for him/her or did you consider people may or may not like him/her? Did you consider  every decision would be held up to the light and examined? Then re-examined? You have to remember, the spouse accepted the position, good with the bad, he/she wanted it. I have a comparable position and I can tell you, I have never had so many friends and I have never pulled so many knives out of my back. It just comes with "being somebody" it targets you both positively and negatively. If you want to have a happy holiday season, I suggest you stop reading Sound-off (sorry soundoff) and do not open the ledger (except for the sales brochures) peoples words can't hurt you if you don't allow them.

I was wondering why Perry Township doesn't hire a full time officer and maybe one part time officer? They already have an experienced officer for a chief why not use him.

I agree wholeheartedly.

11/17/06 (37)
the cops inellwood won't retire. they got life by the horns. its the gravy train that keeps them there.

11/17/06 (38)
I agree completely! As a single female, I have been approached by both single and married men. I make the decisssion to keep them faithful to their wifes not them. If not, there would be many MANY more broken families in this community. Yep, even a few of those women who act as if they have the perfect marriage have a husband with a wondering eye, but quite a few!

That is what has always caused fights in our little peyton place too many woman believe what their compainions say. This town is known for the pretty boys with the roaming eyes. Get a grip ladies.

11/17/06 (39)
You can blame the mayor if you want but council controls the money. If there are not enough police, and there are not, then its council's fault not the mayor. The mayor cant hire more men only council can do that. They have not done anything to stop the crime in our town. Council has failed to protect the taxpayers! I dont think the mayor is doing a very good job, but he can't be blamed for the manpower shortage.

11/17/06 (40)
To the moderator, You have to have the patience of job! You are doing a good job for the contents given in this time of hatefulness in our city.

RE: To Julie W., do you really think this is the answer for our area we seem to be having a problem that we see in other communities and this is affecting our school children. These kids are crying out for attention. Can you give the readers more information on your website.

Does anyone have more info on the break-in in Perry Township?

11/16/06 (02)
Hi to all, I was here for your festival and the relationship convention and can't imagine the difference in the comments that are coming out of this wonderful town. Sometimes it's true things don't go the way we expect them to go but we do not have the right to harm other human beings with all this slanderous manner. There are alot of singles in the area and would take an oath they are all wonderful persons they just need to the chance to clear their past and if they can live with their's others should not remember them, and or believe recent gossip sometimes it keeps good people from getting together. Local sessions are out there for all to utilize for help in dealing with your pasts and moving on to a better and higher way of thinking and living. My deepest of prayers go out to all of you here and hopes that you can retain your composure to except one another without worring about people of the gossipy world those issues never change only the people they are talking about !
once they destroy they move on forgetting what they have done, Please take time to look at all and know the truth you believe in not what your being brainwashed into accepting. Hope the holiday's bring closure to all wars here in your community. Anyone wanting information can go to our website for help www.anglefire.com good blesing to all!
Julie W.

It is evident that you are the only one without a grip on reality because if your pocket supervisor was so caring and concerned about the township, then full-time police would be a top priority. Get a grip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can yell also.

It seems that there were two incidents within the past month in the same area. One person shot and the other beaten, both being life flighted to Pittsburgh. In both incidents it involved people from out of town. I will not mention the name of the establishment where all this took place, but we are all familiar with the area. My suggestion would be if there is anymore trouble in this area then this establishment should be considered a nuisance and  shut down!!!  Something deffinately needs to be done to keep our city clean of this trash!!!

11/16/06 (10)
I think its about time the Mayor of Ellwood does something. What happened to our drug dogs? Hire more police. This whole town needs more police, Franklin Twp. was robbed, Perry Twp, robbed and the drugs every where. Ellwood, Franklin & Perry needs to get there acts together. SOON ..... Its not safe any more to go out.
Hire full time police.

Who was it that said Community Oriented Policing was needed ? I checked that out on the internet that's just what we need if we have people wanting to volunteer their time would that not save money. Anyone interested can read it online sound very safe and interesting. Why can we not do something about it give all those kids on the streets a job to do with their time.

That's a laugh if I were a lady the internet would not be my preference but from what I'm seeing in this  town you have very slim pickings needless to say all the baggage these men are hiding. Ladies take my advice do not lower yourslef to lookat any of these men if there stil living in Ellwood and not matched up what does that tell you. The only men you galls are sure to catch are the ones that come out from under their rocks over the weekend when their wives are home with the kids, and vis versa

I am a Grandmother and a Mother of four children. When my children were young I had hardly anything to worry about, but now I am terrified to go out after dark. I don't like my grandchildren to be out either. We need someone to help keep the young children occupied. Not a pool hall but mabe some attivities that will interest the kids. And the crime is getting bad here. We NEVER had things like this happening in out small little town before. I hate the drugs that are out on our streets. And the poilce know who they are. But nothing seems to be done about it. What Can We Do? PLEASE someone try to HELP us.

11/16/06 (18)
for 28 on 11-15. yes, but desperate is desperate, and if you cant make a go of it in one town, your personality wont change for the next town.

11/16/06 (19)
Somebody sent to Pittsburgh via lifeflight a month ago. Now we have a shooting outside.

This is a real tribute to our town!!!

Why has the location not been given some of us would appreciate the facts to keep our families out of the areas of danger.

11/16/06 (20)
heres the solution with the local drug problem. all the punks need to quit buying, and using. all the others who know about the buying and useage need to turn these losers in. they are not your friends/buds/bro's/dudes. you are just as responsible if you know about it and dont turn em in. also, the trouble bars should be closed down as nusiance bars for six months. the riff raf wont come here if the bars dont invite that crowd, and if the punks dont buy the drugs.

I would just like to say that the overwhelming number of criminal incidents in Ellwood City is on the rise. Everybody wants the nice little town of old and we are losing it to crime. Wake up people!!! I think that maybe we should spend more on law enforcement.

Why should we hire more police they have the survalliance camera tapes they know who the criminals are, their not trained in this area. By the way who was the girl and Ratman atabbed who?

11/16/06 (22)
Do our officals carry guns? Cartright's window should be a good reason for that. Thought that window was bullet proof? See it was fixed. Good luck to the office staff and magistrate we only thank God no one was in the office. Does it not have cameras outside? This senseless bull has to stop, maybe the mayor was right bringing the state police here would have been a beter thing that what we have

11/16/06 (26)
I'm not intimidated by these young punks who think they are so bad. If you are afraid take a defence class and learn how to use a gun. More and more you hear about home invasions and they are on the rise. You have the right to protect yourself and you have to use any meens to do it. I t is something you never had to worry about 15 years ago but you do now. Don't be afraid to protect your rights !!!

11/16/06 (28)
RE:Why pay more for law enforcement that let this happen? If the street's of Ellwood starts getting dirty with litter should we hire more street dept personal? I think not.

I cannot stand you people that constantly knock the police department. Walk in their shoes for one day. They would have much more time to take care of drug issues if the whiners in this town would quit calling for stupid reasons. Oh my goodness, it's 8 pm and the kids in the park are making noise call the police. The police have so many nuisance calls such as that.

11/16/06 (29)
I just was on ncnews.com and got a preview of "Cats". WOW !!! Our community should be very proud of our students and faculty.Make sure you make time to see this musical !If this preview was any indication of how entertaining this will be I"M THERE.

11/16/06 (30)
In response to 11/15/06 (01); this is what happens when citizens of EC allow council to take away resources from the police department. We should have more officers, drug dogs, and new equipment – our undercover cars are a joke. I think we should offer retirement packages to those officers who wish to retire early so we can bring in young officers. We need to revamp our PD in order to secure the future of our town….

The buck has to stop somewhere, the town does not have enough Police, fault: Mayor. Period.

The Police have no drug dog, fault: Mayor. Period

Crowd of hoodlums on Lawrence ave,not enough police to disperse them, fault: Mayor. Period

This man ran fro office on the fact that we had too many Police now he sees that we do not have enough men to fill a simple schedule without overtime, what has he done? Grants are available for communities such as Ellwood for more Police. I am sure no one in Ellwood City has even attempted to obtain one!

Remember Councilman DeCarbo stated not long ago 'lets not prepare for what might happen, lets react to what has happened' then he made a motion for the police to get an armoured car. If this keeps up, they will need one. Only problem is there wont be anyone to drive it!

There is enough blame to go around for the shortage of Police in Ellwood City, but the majority of the blame has to fall on the Mayor.

11/16/06 (33)
As a past member of the Christmas in the Park committee I was very offended to read Wednesdays ledger. A lot of wonderful people pulled together to start and maintain this event! The statements printed couldn't be more hurtful or further from the truth! How dare she say that she used her own money to buy decorations! I was there years before she decided to get involved. Myself and others stood in rain and freezing weather to collect donations so we could not only make it nice for the present year but to add to the decorations each year. Armstrong cable donated a truck and a man (Bill) each year to help set up the electrical lines. Inmetco did and still does a beautiful display each year. McElwains always did the poisettas and it was so pretty to round the bend and see them. Century 21 had the house and carolers, Straw did her purple tree, the jaycees did the gloves. Even Wal-Mart donated! Quite a few local businesses bought and decorated trees to line the event. The local p!
re-schools even participated. Why have all these people stopped? I drive through the displays each year and see only less community participation. I would like to see a list of new items, with their receipt purchased.

In re to the really uninformed person

11/14/06 (04)
I realize this is old news, but the representation we have in Perry Twp. totally s____s. With crime on the rise less than 10 miles away and we have no force, other than self-defense, to protect ourselves. I really feel bad for the elderly who like to go to bed early in fear. Since we no longer have any employees, why can't we have at least one full time police officer on duty? Perry Township will hopefully vote different the next time.

I WISH THIS WAS ALL YELLING but here goes

If you came to a meeting you would know that we have 2 new employees. We also have very caring and knowledgable Supervisors. Apparently you have never spoken to Dori. And now with Guy on duty, we have new and young blood. Get a grip on reality before you speak.

11/15/06 (05)
I am very upset with the man that owns the cows. I hit one of his cows on Friday the 13th of October and he refuses to pay to have my car fixed. Because it was a cow, I have to pay the $200 deductable. His cow was running down the middle of the road. It was around 8:30 and it was pitch black out. Worse because there are no street lights.

11/15/06 (06)
Great photos of Light Up Night.

I have a few thoughts on the dating comments: I am in my early 50's and ya know, WE, even at this OLD AGE, are, in many ways, still pretty young at heart too. And I want to tell you, it's tough. But I have a 23 year old niece who has found it tough also in this area.

At an older age, I married one of two of my high school sweethearts. He passed away. There was one other and he IS pretty darned special. It has been an on-again-off-again thing on his part. And hard as I try, no OTHER man seems interested. But I am a darned good 'best-friend-tell-all-your-secrets-to-girl', so I have been told! I'm also told that I am an okay person, but this 'looking for love' thing is giving me a complex! LOL!

Then there's my niece: She finds a nice local man. he tells her how he wants 'forever' with her. HE makes all sorts of promises. They have a nice evening together on one day and the next day he sends her an email and tells her he is JADED from prior relationships and so it's over!

I could give a few more examples but since none of you know any of us, it will be easy for you to sit at your keyboards and rip us all apart. And I am pretty sure that many of you know some of us. But you will have your fun, I suppose.

It's not desperation at any age for a woman to want to have a man in her life; for amny it's 'completion.'

I know there are men out there who would like to have a relationship with a woman but they sure are damned hard to find locally!

I think the moderator should consider making a 'locals only' site here for singles looking for someone. Could or wouldn't have to include pictures, so as not to embarrass our LOCAL people and throw them out to the SOUND OFF wolves. Men and women could use a newly created YAHOO or HOTMAIL identity/address to maintain their anonimity for a while or SOMETHING! Just a thought.
I have considered this.   I can develop something based on the input I receive.  If anyone would like to submit suggestions, you can do so via email.

11/15/06 (08)
11/14/06 (06)
Did I miss something or have we not been informed about the 2 robberies and the local shooting that occurred over the weekend?

Or did they put it in the paper that there was a home burglery in Perry Twp. on Sat. The people in Perry Twp. need to know this. Another thing. It was the State Police who came not Perry Twp. Perry needs full time police day and night.

"ellwood doesn't have a drug proble"
As the leaders of this town continue to turn their backs on ellwoods drug problem they are welcoming problems of every sort. THERE IS VERY MUCH A PROBLEM. My question is will it take MORE than a man getting shot to open our eyes?

11/15/06 (12)

11/15/06 (13)
I was told that the shooting in Ellwood was done by people from out of town. I hate the fact the this town is starting to be so unsafe anymore. I LOVE my little town and want to keep it safe..What if anything can we as a community do???? Maybe we should hirer more Police officers or something.. I don't like being scared to leave the house! Any ideas???

11/15/06 (14)
What can the Mayor do to help with the crime? Maybe he can pull his weapon out of his pocket. or maybe he can take the drug dogs with him.

11/15/06 (15)
With all of the talk of the "fine" job the Mayor is doing why is there a landmark jewelery store moving from Lawrence Avenue?? The condition of the downtown business district has to fall on the Mayor and Boro Council. Rather than go through a group of foul talking, rowdy people the public is not doing any business in Ellwood, and I can't blame them. I think the moving of this store is a shame and it will be missed in the future............I have dealt with them for years and will continue to deal with them in their new location......

11/15/06 (16)
After readingthe comments about the shooting I went to the New Castle News website and read about the shooting. They have that it happened at 2 AM Sat. not friday and that the man went to a womans aid who was in a confrontation with 2 men then shot him as they left. That is not the definition of a drive by you hear about on TV all the time in those people just drive by and shoot randomly. To the mother concerned about her kids I hope they aren't out at 2 A.M. or you might have other things to be concerned about.

11/15/06 (17)
Psychics can not use their gifts in this way... that would be an abuse of power

LOL, This is so funny. You can't possibly believe this stuff! Think People Think

11/15/06 (18)
I will say it again and this time, I hope that it gets published. If Betty tells that woman that her husband is cheating, she should dump him as soon as possible. Too many women in this town sit by and let their husbands get away with their cheating. If your spouse has been having an affair that has lasted for more than a few years, they are doing more than cheating on you. They are discussing the most intimate details of your life. They are taking time and money away from you and the rest of your family. How can you even want to be in the same room as this liar and cheater? Do you think this will ever end? Absolutely not! There will always be someone they are chasing and you will run the wheels off your car trying to keep track of who he is seeing now. Wake up, take him for all you can and cut your losses before you get any older. It wasn't easy for me but I am finally on my feet and feel proud of the life I have without the cheater and that is what I will be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

11/15/06 (19)
Mayor Clyde is doing a great job alright. He even said in th Ledger 'when I ran for offfice I said too many police too much overtime.......I was wrong' Well that is par for Ellwood City everyone is an expert on everyone elses job. Then as soon as they get elected they realize they dont know anything. Now why would you not reasearch that kind of thing before you make a statement like that.  Can anyone tell me one thing that he has done since he took office except making the police write parking tickets and greivences? Any drug enforcement programs? Community Police, Drug dog, DARE program. This man is in charge of the Police. They find a guy shot in the main street in front of several people and they have no idea who did it. Keep up the good work Mayor.

11/15/06 (20)
In reference to #18 on 11/14/2006, let’s see if I can explain it for an idiot to understand it! The Ledger and the Times are both morning papers! The shooting occurred around 2:15 a.m. Saturday Morning! That’s early morning for those of you who don’t know! The Ledger and the Times are already rolling off the press and on the streets by 3:00 a.m. So they obviously couldn’t print it in Saturday’s paper. The Ledger has no paper on Sunday and when I looked at Monday’s paper it was on the front page on the right hand side (Your other Right hand)!

I would just like to say that the overwhelming number of criminal incidents in Ellwood City is on the rise. Everybody wants the nice little town of old and we are losing it to crime. Wake up people!!! I think that maybe we should spend more on law enforcement.

Why pay more for law enforcement that let this happen? If the street's of Ellwood starts getting dirty with litter should we hire more street dept personal? I think not.

" So, one asked, "What do you single/divorced females do socially if you don't go to bars? How do you meet people?"

Well, occasionally I go to bars, but I honestly don't think I can find the type of man that I am looking for. I just moved back to Ellwood after a few years travelling the country, and I am an attractive, well-educated girl in my twenties but I honestly believe I cannot find a man who shares my (for Ellwood, perhaps) strange/eclectic interests. It is nice to come home for a time, that is certain, but if I were looking for a relationship, I would look geographically elsewhere. This is unfortunate.

I'm sorry but this post just screams fake to me. It sounds more like a young man wrote it."

Interesting you would say that, but honestly, I am not a young man. I am a female 24 year old graduate of Lincoln. I do have interests that I haven't found compatible with most men of comparable age in Ellwood, and have had the best luck romantically when I have lived elsewhere in the United States. As I said, it is quite nice to stop home for extended periods of time, but to an extent it would be even more nice if I could find someone who is romantically compatible.

My original post was not a fake one, and I am who I say I am. Sorry about the honesty or the erudition, but c'est la vie.

After reading the shooting article, I was shocked not to read about the other man that stabbed one of the actors? Why are we not getting the whole true gere? This is a terrible thing to happen right after a holiday event.

Guess they need to turn the electric off before they fill in their powerball card.

The mayor is doing a teriffic job making our town a nice safe place to live? A man is shot on Lawrence Ave and there isn't even an investigation Maybe it is time to ask some serious questions about the mayor, about council, and what they plan to do to clean up these problems. What happened to the grant money and private donations for the drug dogs? Why have employees been cut in every departmen? Why is the police department reduced to a number that is impossible to fill the schedule without overtime?Maybe we don't need seven council members maybe three would be enough. If we have equipment to rent why don't we put it to work in our town?I see lots and lots of areas in our local government that needs looked at under the microscope. We need to apply "Clean Sweap"  beginning asap!!!

there are many ladies in ellwood who desperatley get on the internet to find a man. some travel 50 or more miles for a littls lovin. thats a shame. maybe they dont want to local folks to know what they are up to. hmmmmm

Maybe they don't like the selection Ellwood has to offer?

Everyone needs to understand that it is NOT the mayor's fault we do not have more police officers. Council is to blame here! It is NOT the Mayor Clyde's fault we have not obtained two police dogs..he has been fighting for this for a year now. Council will not approve it! From what I have witnessed, Mayor Clyde has done a fantastic job with the city with his limited amount of resources. The negative attention needs to be diverted to council and away from the Mayor!

11/15/06 (30)
Community action is needed to bring this to a resolution before we have more of what we had over the weekend. Mayor Clyde stated monday the police are intimidated of this nature how the h*** do you think the residents are begining to feel?

11/15/06 (31)
There was a shooting on Lawrence ave over the weekend thats pretty sad.

Is there something your not telling the community once the magistrates window was shot did that not state the fact the whomever is not going to stop this action until persons are removed, what is wrong with this we can't walk down the streets anymore sad state of affairs in this town.

The fact that Perry twp. doesn't have a full-time officer has less to do with who is supervisor and more to do with finances. If you are willing to pay more, you can have more.

However, just glance over that 10 miles away to Ellwood at how many full-time officers they have. Obviously, just having a full-time force does little to nothing to stop crime. It takes an involved citizenry who attend meetings and demand results, who keep tabs on their own neighborhoods and are responsible for themselves and their families.

If you want to worry about crime in Perry twp., you are several years too late, and looking in the wrong direction. Crime has been coming in the back door from Cranberry and Pittsburgh for years, to say nothing of our home-grown problems. You have just had your head in the sand, ignoring it.

Unfortunately, with Ellwood deteriorating, we do run the risk of them taking the surrounding twps. down with them. Hope the people in town wake up, get off their behinds and do something besides complain here.

What isn't something being done about the broken windows in the old "Jean's Flower Shop". Someone is going to get hurt!

11/15/06 (34)

Another shooting in our once safe community of Ellwood City.
Our town is turning into "The lower end of Beaver Falls"!

post 2 well said all the kids do deserve to play

I realize this is old news, but the representation we have in Perry Twp. totally s____s. With crime on the rise less than 10 miles away and we have no force, other than self-defense, to protect ourselves. I really feel bad for the elderly who like to go to bed early in fear. Since we no longer have any employees, why can't we have at least one full time police officer on duty? Perry Township will hopefully vote different the next time.

11/14/06 (05)
So you think the Mayor has done such a wonderful job! Lets see, crime is at an all time high, drugs are running rampant, Police overtime is at an all time high, morale in the department is at an all time low, he still has not acted on the grant to get TWO drug dogs.

11/14/06 (06)
Did I miss something or have we not been informed about the 2 robberies and the local shooting that occurred over the weekend?

how many people do you know have been involved in a car accident due to a deer running out in front of it? how many people have been killed because of this? i personally know one that was.
insurance companies are pushing the game commission to increase the number of deer permitted per year. how much do you think your insurance company tacks on because of this?
BTW, do you wear leather shoes? leather coat? wallet or purse? eat at mcdonalds?

:> Where in the world are you going with this. What is your point? Are you saying it's okay to pouch deer and let them rot, just to have the antlers. To please the insurance companies. What are you trying to say here?

If the psychic is so good, then why hasn't she hit the powerball lottery and retired?

Psychics can not use their gifts in this way... that would be an abuse of power.

That is the combined efforts of BOVA and the Borough Manager!

11/14/06 (12)
Now that we've had a shooting in our fine town where do we find our security? Mayor Clyde should be given the credit that he deserves let him do whats needed before there is another one of these breakouts.

11/14/06 (13)
D I hope you are enjoying spending all of your "hard earned" money.Im glad that you remember that you have to work for everything that you earn. Boy did you work really hard you were very slick at earning your money if I were you I would quit school.

J your meaning for this is??

11/14/06 (14)
What a great 2 week ends the merchants and BOVA had for Ellwod City. And your comments about what a waste the city is. Well this co-operation just shot that comment. and now we have the Christmas parade to look forward to. and don't forget the 20th annual Christmas House Tour on the 2nd of Dec.There are 5 great houses to see. Tickets are $10.00.and can be purchased from any Municipl Women's Club member. I had lived away from Ellwood for 14 years and never seen this kind of closeness. Moving back to Ellwood City was the best move I have ever made. So don't bad mouth down what wonderful things we have just enjoy. Barbara Franus Osborne

I am a parent of a teenager and I'm petrified to feel we had another drive by shooting  and a car accident over the same incident. what in the world is happening. Where can we allow our kids to go where they can be safe? Can anyone answer that? Please do.

Who got shot on Lawrence Avenue on Friday night??
I looked in the Ledger and the Times. How does the Ellwood City Police find a man shot laying on Lawrence Avenue in the middle of the street and not have any info for the news? Shouldn't the people of this town be concerned? I really think it needs to be told. How do you live in a town with things like this happening and not care? You all worry about your sons and daughters hanging out on the main street, and a man  gets shot. You might want to look into this.

11/14/06 (19)
Wow...I was walking down main street today, and I saw SO many beautifully decorated windows for the upcoming seasons. Has anyone else noticed this? I love EC. :-D
