Thank you for your patience!
Our site is in it's new location and all things are running smoothly again.  The only issue is, if you submitted comments/mail to ellwoodcity.org on Friday, I'm afraid it probably got lost.  If you do not see your comment here, that would explain why.  Please re-submit if you'd like it posted for tomorrow.

"Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes"

Isnt that the truth!! lmao

I am in need of some good advice--I have a neighbor who tells many stories and lies. Our neighborhood has caught on to this "person" but no one has ever confronted this person about the stories.

And how do you know that they are lies? Some ppl are great at hiding the truth and denying the truth when their slapped in the face with it. Maybe you should just go about your own business and not worry about it. After all, you are an adult, are you not???

Congrats to Fred and Dan for approaching the boro concerning the drug activity in the area. I am so sick and tired of these dope smokers using my yard as their access to their drugs. I have caled the cops on many occassions and by the time they actually do show up, the dealers and doers are gone. I'm gonna start making citizen arrests and calling the State boys when I need them. Elloowd police, please, respond faster, its not like we live 10 miles out of town. It only takes me 3 minutes to get to the police station from house, why does it take you 45 minutes to get to mine??

Ellwood City Lil Angels have 2 12 yr. old all-star teams and next weekend July 26 and 27th is the
All-star tournament at Stiefel Park. Any B class team can enter into the tournament if they pay the entry fee. Well some of us think its great that there are 2 all-star teams because it gives more girls in the league to be on an all-star team, except for a couple cry-baby coaches who are refusing to let one of the teams be in the tournament even though they are paying the entry fee. So I wonder how they sleep at night, being so selfish, all these girls want to do is play softball. LET THEM PLAY SOFTBALL and GROW UP!!! They're 12 yrs. old, how old are YOU?

RE:Circle Playground

First, I would suggest you go back and read the full article and see what is being found frequently in the mornings at the playground. This stems from after dark activities of young adults. Don't blame the police for not patroling as they can't station a man there 24-7. It makes sense for council to pass a regulation which will set the hours of use for the playground. This way the police will have full authority to escort anyone off of the grounds after the set closing hour. If I had lived in the area I would welcome this change.

Does anyone know if the Lincoln High Class of 1989 is having a 20 year reunion? Please email me if you have any details. My email address is mmuzzana@zbzoom.net Thanks! Christie Muzzana

I have a question? If the EC cops are out catching speeders, does that mean that they've taken care of the drug problem? Or does it mean that there is more money in speeding citations? Think about it and let me know how well protected you feel.

07/21/08 (09)
i hope the people who are in charge of human resources and supervision of companies in ellwood realize that when bad things happen in their personal lives, that alot of the people who work "under" them find this humerous. after all of the years they treated their workers with no compassion for their personal problems, it makes many of us happy to see them have bad things happen to them. i hope they remember how they treated the lowly production workers

07/21/08 (10)
concerning your neighbor just remember LOVE is blind but your neighbor is not they usually see more than you think. one part is true the other is false but somewhere in the middle the truth lies.....

I predict nobody cares about Mr. TD's predictions...

I think your prediction is 100% correct.

07/21/08 (12)
Is anyone else tired of driving through the sewageon 288 by the new treatment plant. It is really nice when your on a bike. Seen workers on both sides of the road working on it but it's no better

07/21/08 (13)
I have not heard anything about the charges against the police department please enlighten us out of town former residents....I was always taught when driving alone do not stop for a policeman go to a well lit area or to the police department. I do know that sometimes those offers work both ways. it takes two at least that is what I was taught.

I would confront them about it the next time it happens and ask them how they'd like it if you spread rumors about them. Then I would tell everyone in the neighborhood you caught him/her cheating on his/her spouse. Tough love is all some people respond to.

07/18/08 (02)
Given the amount of charges levied against our local police departments and officers, and the nature of those charges…
What charges and what police depts.? Please be more specific. This sound a little broad based and melicious.

To the lady complaining about the double standard for men and women regarding clothes. I totally agree with you. I am a male who occassionally walks around without a shirt on in the summertime. It feels great. And I would encourage all adult women (except ones I am related to) to do the same!

7/17. Why would you not want any woman related to you to not bare her top as much as you do yours? Are you ashamed of the females in your family? Don't you believe they are as "moral" as you imagine yourself to be relevant to their anatomies?

Guys like you demand that everyone approve of you and your appearance no matter what you look like, how your dressed or how much you expose. So given your attitudes and conduct, why don't you want your mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, neice, etc. showing as much of themselves as you and your male relatives do at home and elsewhere?

07/18/08 (04)
I have been hearing alot of bad news about ellwood city hospital like people getting laid off and the place possibly closing in 2 years unless someone buys them. Anyone else hear anything?

07/18/08 (05)
The Ellwood City Soccer Teams will be holding a car wash at Advance Auto located at North Star Plaza on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Donations will be accepted. Please come out and support the EC Boys' & Girls' Soccer Teams!!! Thank you.

After reading tonight’s newspaper, I see former Councilman Glen Jones is up to his ways! He wants to drive the kids out of Circle P-L-A-Y-G-R-O-U-N-D. Why? Because it sits near his house; and why should kids be playing around at the playground! This is exactly why this town continues to spiral in a downward path of destruction because we have people like this sitting on Borough Council when they should be out enjoying retirement. If I recall correctly Circle Playground was sitting at this location long before Glen Jones moved into the neighborhood!

07/18/08 (07)
How can a supervisor get paid and not have to go to the meetings? Shouldn't this person step down?

07/16/08 (01)
Mr. TD is back and well rested from TD's wonderful vacation. TD spent some time hunting bustards and oryx's in the deserts of Dubai, flew to Costa Rica and enjoyed zip-lining in the tropical forests; then provided caregiving to some Peruvian refugees that TD met along the way. TD was quite a hit with the women of Costa Rica (TD visited the clinic on the way back from the Pittsburgh airport and TD received a clean bill of health).

i'll bet that wasnt a mental clinic !! no way you would have passed.

Mr. TD predicts that Ellwood's football team will win two section games this year.

you may get stoned for this prophecy ! i seriously doubt they'll win a game again.

07/18/08 (11)
lighten up a little.

It looks like we have a big problem in EC with drug dealers and no one is hearing us. This seems to be telling us that it is being covered up and protected clean to the top.
>From what I heard that drugs are not the only problem we are facing in EC area. They are trying to keep it quiet, but a white collar prison is suppose to come to Wayne Twp. Does anyone know where? Check what big grounds are available and if for sale. This concerns everyone. Some attorneys are suppose to be involved with this transaction. If it is beside your property it will probably devalue it significantly. TOP SECRET. Get involved.

07/18/08 (13)

The Carpenter's Project does NOT help everyone who calls. My Aunt called 2 years ago and needed some minor work done on her home...they refused her saying the deadline has passed. This was in early March. My Aunt is 87 years old and there is really no one in the family able, physically, to help her.

07/18/08 (15)
i want to thank everyone who gave me advice on dealing with my mother. i have thought alot about it and talked it over with my dad. i've been really surprised how he doesnt have the anger and malice that my mother and my stepfather have. i'm going to talk to her this weekend hopefully. thank you for all the good advice and the stories of your own and mostly for not being critical or sarcastic about this issue. AMEN! Be the better person and stop the ugly gossip. You're already ahead of them, you know who not to trust, leave it at that. I have a neighbor who tries to do the same thing. Ive frustrated her with my lack of reaction so she has (for the moment) moved on to someone else, Probably telling stories about me. Neighbors who gossip with you most likely gossip about you too! At the end of the day, know who your true friends are and leave everything else at the curb.

07/17/08 (05)
I’m going to try to say this as nicely as I can and still get my comment posted. Given the amount of charges levied against our local police departments and officers, and the nature of those charges… I wouldn’t stop for police if I was a woman, but rather, I would call a 911 operator, inform them of what I was doing and drive to the state police barracks. The citizens should not allow this type of behavior and these guys need run out of town.

RE: CARPENTER'S PROJECT - Thank you for a job well done. These young people are a compliment to our community. It is sad that more are not involved. They have done an excellent job. Well mannered and well behaved on the project and it sure continues on to their everyday lives. The adults have got to be praised for their commitment to this project. I am sure many of them use their vacation time from work to help. Again, THANK YOU!

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The political corruption charges filed against a dozen people connected to the state House's Democratic caucus inspired editorial writers and columnists to wield exceptionally sharp pencils as they vent their outrage about the Capitol's culture.

The secrecy that shrouds legislative leaders' spending practices is just one element that writers have assailed since the attorney general on Thursday accused a lawmaker, a former legislator and 10 others of spending of taxpayer dollars on political campaigns.

``An internal matter? The public's business never is,'' said the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Newspapers are overwhelmingly calling for sweeping reform — urging voters to vote out incumbents in the November general election or chiding lawmakers for failing to embrace accountability measures such as nonpartisan redistricting or reducing the Legislature's size.

``One does not need to know the full scope of the institutionalized corruption of the General Assembly to conclude that there needs to be a radical change in heretofore accepted practices,'' said The Patriot-News of Harrisburg, which in January 2007 was the first to report on the payouts of bonuses to legislative staffers who worked on electoral campaigns. ``These are practices that offend the sensibilities of hardworking, fair-minded, taxpaying Pennsylvanians.''

Fundamental changes, the newspaper said, are needed to return the General Assembly ``to the representative and accountable legislative body it was intended to be.''

At least two newspapers have called for the ouster of House Democratic leader Bill DeWeese. He was not charged Thursday by Attorney General Tom Corbett, but former Rep. Mike Veon — DeWeese's longtime ally and former second-in-command — and DeWeese's former chief of staff Mike Manzo are among the defendants, and critics say DeWeese's leadership role requires him to be held accountable.

``The Democratic leader has been touting his efforts to clean house, but the fact remains that this scheme occurred on his watch. He should have resigned already,'' The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote. ``The probe makes clear that House Democrats need a new leader to instill public integrity.''

The Post-Gazette called the scheme ``the height of arrogance'' as it weighed in on the need for new House Democratic leadership.

``The Democratic House leadership, as we've said before, deserves a thorough housecleaning, regardless of the names on the indictments, from Bill DeWeese on down,'' the newspaper wrote.

In a statement released Monday, DeWeese spokesman Tom Andrews said the majority leader brought in seasoned prosecutors to help investigate when the allegations first surfaced more than a year ago.

``He was outraged by the activity they uncovered and, with the backing of the House Democratic Caucus leadership team, they did a major housecleaning last November,'' Andrews said of DeWeese.

The Express-Times of Easton suggested that a constitutional convention favored by some activists would be a step in the right direction.

``It's time to let someone other than legislators set the rules for legislating, spending money, and being accountable to the public,'' the newspaper said.

Veon's hometown newspaper, the Beaver County Times, said the indictments also reflect on Pennsylvania voters for tolerating ``politics as usual'' despite tossing out 24 incumbents in the elections that followed the ill-fated 2005 legislative pay raise.

``What happened in the 2006 election was a spritz of air freshener,'' the newspaper said. ``The job is not done. A total fumigation is needed.''

Philadelphia Daily News columnist John Baer used an equally vivid metaphor in advocating a ``thorough, cathartic cleansing.''

Baer contended that the indictments are the latest in a series of symptoms of the institution's ethical decay: the pay-raise fiasco, federal corruption charges filed against Democratic Philadelphia Sen. Vincent Fumo, and ``the Legislature's ongoing general ineptness.''

``I'm talking flamethrowers followed by fire hoses,'' Baer wrote.

In response to the article today about the drug activity in West End - I did call the police about a drug deal and they never showed up....gave them a description, but nothing was done. We all know the house that passes out drugs (especially on Friday nights)....please do not attempt to travel West bound on Crescent avenue Friday nights - the pickup window is very busy dispensing drugs....why don't the cops sit at the intersection to watch how many drive around and around the block? I know why - they spend the majority of their time in the Loop trying to round out the "out of town" convicts

07/16/08 (04)
Democrats have proven again and again that they cannot "win" except by lying, cheating and stealing. This latest in the PA house of representatives shows once again that it is the Democrats in abundance of these above mentioned qualities.

Veon, Lagrotta, Ramalley, DeWeese all of the same ilk. And none of them will ever admit their guilt no matter what. Shows such arrogance and they always act like the public is stupid! Like we believe anything they say!

I am wondering about the J. Gibbons office!!!! He has one guy from lagrotta's office and 2 from Veons!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heard I made the "Sound Off!" I was in the Jeep and got pulled over for going 45 in the 35mph zone by Venezie's Sporting Goods (I guess that's where he hides out at times) on the 4th of July. I didn't realize he was behind me until I was already on Golf Avenue. Be careful out there!

You people can complain all you want about the electric or anything else in this town and it will mean diddly squat. You live in a town where they APPOINTED a borough manager who spent his life selling ads for a newspaper, and at one time started a concerned citizen group of some sort protesting the electric rates. They really searched hard to fill that job. And now that he has it, what has he done to help us out with the electric? Oh wait, he's putting in cheap street lighting so all the drug dealers and burglers won't have to work as hard.

Does anyone know who to contact in the Riverside Youth Football League about signing a boy up? We are moving from Ellwood to Riverside and missed their sign-ups. Thank you.

This year my electric has gone up considerably. I usually run two window air conditioners but this year I am only running one and my bill is so much higher. Also have you tried to contact the electric office? When they answer the phone its just "hello" not announcing who we have reached. It would be nice to have them answer the phone At least telling you you have reached the electric office and who you are talking to. Instead you just get hello like your calling a friend. They are a business...

State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, has Chet Orelli Jr.
working on his staff. He testified it was clear in his interviews for the job with Veon that political campaigning was considered a part of his duties. “This proved to be true,” the grand jury report said. This is ok with Gibbons. Dispite the fact that Orelli was among those receiving bonuses in 2006. His was more than $10,000.
I guess Gibbons likes having staff who are used to working on re-ecletion campaigns.Being paid by taxpayer money.

Re: this statement is unfair, there is women that love men and the men are so confused they are telling the woman of their lives they do not want to hurt them. This viewed on Tv and its true. there are men out there dying to be with the woman of theit dreams but, since it became true they push them away and hurt them more. We are to respect these guys, don't they know someday they will be alone then what will the story be.

Re:07/15/08 (15)To the lady complaining about the double standard for men

I am a woman, and still your comment made me chuckle! A little chauvinistic, but still funny. Reminded me of a humerous email that I got last week. As we all know, sometimes when one copies and pastes from another program, it can show up on here with weird symbol combinations and screwy spacing, so it this happens, bear with me:

>>>As you may already know, it is a sin for a Muslim male to see any woman other than his wife naked. He must commit suicide if he does. So next Saturday at 4 PM Eastern Time, all American women are asked to walk out of their house completely naked to help weed out any neighborhood terrorists.
Circling your block for one hour is recommended for this anti-terrorist effort.

All patriotic men are to position themselves in lawn chairs in front of their house to prove they are not Muslims, and to demonstrate they think its okay to see nude women other than their wife, and to show support for all American women. Since Islam also does not approve of alcohol, a cold 6-pack at your
side is further proof of your anti-Muslim sentiment.

The American government appreciates your efforts to root out terrorists and applauds your participation in this anti-terrorist activity. God bless America!

It is your patriotic duty to pass this on. If you don't send this to at least 5 people you're a terrorist sympathizing lily-livered coward and are in the position of posing as
a national threat!<<<

I get tired of crimnals and politicans (yes they are both in the same class) who get caught doing something wrong and illegal THEN they find religion.

Whether I support or do not support that man you are talking about with regard to the 'religion' part, it's a well known fact that he 'found' religion decades ago, not just now to make it look good. This isn't being posted as a topic for argument, simply a fact.

HATS OFF: THANK YOU!!

This thank you goes out to all the workers on the
Carpenter Project. Your time and hard work is greatly appreciated.

07/16/08 (21)
Former House Minority Whip Mike Veon, current state Rep. Sean Ramaley and 10 legislative aides are the first people formally charged in a year-long investigation into "Bonusgate." The 12 Democrats have brought a new level of embarrassment to Pennsylvania's state government, a body that was already suffering from low public confidence.

Their crime was a scheme to use legislative aides -- who were being paid by the taxpayers -- as workers on Democratic political campaigns while they were on state time. The staffers received generous bonuses from the state treasury for the hours they spent on the campaign trail.

The mastermind of this endeavor was Veon, who is charged with 59 counts of conflict of interest, theft and conspiracy.

State Attorney General Tom Corbett, who ran the investigation, alleges that Veon "ran an illegal campaign organization from his offices." That operation reportedly included fundraising, opposition research, campaign mailings, e-mails and nomination petition challenges -- all paid for by state taxpayers.

In addition, the grand jury charges that Veon set up extravagant public-funded dinners for himself and fellow Democratic officials, totalling $22,000 over four years. He is also accused of giving two employees nearly $1,500 in state funds to take two family motorcycles to a 2004 rally in Sturgis, S.D., so they would be waiting when Veon and his wife flew in.

Unfortunately, the charges that came down last week are likely to be just the tip of a stinking pile of garbage in Harrisburg. we shudder to think about what he still may uncover.

But for now, Veon and his cronies are the new face of corruption in state government. They callously violated the public trust that is invested in their positions, and treated the money of hard-working Pennsylvanians like it came from a board game.

We are encouraged by Corbett's progress so far, and we urge him to keep going until the last tawdry piece of corruption is uncovered.

The first step to giving the state a government it can be proud of is getting rid of the people who are causing the embarrassment!

In response to T's fireworks comment-- you can only do so much with what you are given. I know first hand of the preperation and work that went into setting of that little measly 15 minute show your talking about. I was part of the Zambelli crew that spent all day setting up the show and then cleaning up the ball field till all hours of the morning after it was over just so you could watch that measly 15 minute show.

As far as the smoke-- that is a given at any fireworks show. Have you ever set off the big ones?

I personally feel that our crew (which was a very small one by the way) did an awesome job with the materials they had towork with.

Im sorry you took my comments as a personal attack on you and your workers... I, in no way shape or form, directed my comment at you or them. My comment was directed at the person(s) in charge of securing the funds to pay for a better display!
I realize that you can only do so much with what you are given, and it was a nice display, you and your workers did a fine job... but displays in the past were much bigger and better. I know this isnt your fault. Furthermore, I have enjoyed many firework displays at the stadium... and I also stated that the smoke couldnt be helped on account of the atmospheric conditions at the time... but it was a shame that many of the fireworks were hard to see because of the smoke.
Next time read whats written and dont take personal offense where its not warranted.

Re: to comments about the disrespect men are showing for women in our area,
We were given a good example of this male behavior at the festival. Dome of the most respected men working for one of the clubs seemed to relish of critizing and making fun of the women. I sat in total shock when I heard the comments from some of these GROWN WELL TO DO adults.
Apparently these two think they are above critizism. Let me tell you this situation has made some of the local residents distance their selves from purchasing food from this location. The gentleman distributing the food knows his behavior was uncalled for. We can become angry, but this will not change the facts until this is brought out into the open. THESE MEN are so called officals.
The wolves Clubs, should look into this array of events, my wife was highly insulted by one and I'm here to say I intend on going into his office and get a reason for this without letting him intimidate me. Sorry, for the anger but our community and festival is for having fun, not being made fun of.

Just wanted to post somethng upbeat about Ellwood City for a change. Twice in the past month my smoke detector has gone off while I was at work. Both times the mailman heard it and called it in to the Fire Station through the Post Office. The first time we thought it was because of a defective plug in air freshener but the second time just this past week, we found out that my smoke detector was defective when it went off again. Thank you to the quick thnking of the Postal Worker who takes care of Wampum Avenue, Connie McDonald, Todd ??, Rob Magnifico and anyone else who responded both times. IF there was a fire in progress, I am sure their quick response would have saved my home. Please check the expiration date on your smoke dectectors and have them replaced if they are expired so that your family may be safe. Many times the fire department, postal workers and police are slammed on this web site. I for one am grateful for each one of them out there doing their job.

Police called about suspicious person

New Castle News

Ellwood City police are looking into a suspicious person report involving children.

Police said they received a report that a man drove past three youngsters who were walking in the 400 block of Eighth Street around 7 p.m. Sunday. The children said the man drove slowly, parked his car, got out and started to follow them.

One of the children advised the younger girls to run onto the nearby porch of someone they know. Police said she then yelled for the homeowner to come outside because the girls were being followed.

Police said the man got back into his car and drove off before the adult could confront him.

In answer to the question concerning the festival on Lawrence Avenue. Back in the late 1970's there was an ethnic day. Representatives from German, Italian, Hungarian, Jewish, etc. put tables up in front of the Municipal Building with ethnic foods.
Lawrence Ave was blocked off from Fifth to Sixth St,tables and chairs were set up on the avenue.
Local merchants would set up a table outside their business to sell items. Later a few people who did crafts asked permission to set up a table. After a few years someone(I do not remember who the person or persons were) suggested taking this ethnic day and moving it to Ewing Park, thus the birth of the Arts, Crafts and Food Festival that has lasted 28 yrs. If anyone else has any more information on this subject, please respond.

RE:07/11/08 (12)
Mr. Amen-you better hope that God is very understanding because I beleive that from what you wrote about women, you will be standing at the pearly gates and God will tell you to go somewhere much warmer. Women deserve respect and voices just as men do. As for thanking men for freedoms, you must be forgetting about the women on the front lines. You must also be forgetting women that though they may not have been in a soldier's uniform performed other duties that helped freedom abound. Attitudes such as yours speaks of non-freedom. Part of our freedoms earned is the right of speech and to vote but you sir want that freedom to be only for men. Your freedom is not a true freedom. It is attitudes such as yours that create the situation in which some men are belittled for their macho attitude. Thank God I have a man that sees me as an equal and I see him as an equal. Try respecting women and women will respect you and your macho kind.

I am in need of some good advice--I have a neighbor who tells many stories and lies. Our neighborhood has caught on to this "person" but no one has ever confronted this person about the stories. I'm using "this person" because I'm pretty sure he/she visits this site nightly......

Possibly a guy in a red pickup picked it up immediately after this happened and hauled everything off in his pickup. The bicycle belongs to my grandson.

I thank God for the heart felt reading that have been posted.
here is also one I would like to share and ask that the readers say a prayer for the persons of it's making.
There were two similar persons that seemed to be enemies receltly, I watch these two and kbew their history of years of friendship, yet still I was puzzled. These two remarkable persons are so much alike that they have been known to complete the others sentence. many years of looking over and caring for one another seemed to be their most shared joy, until one day, the woman feel in love with the gentleman. He became outraged, ignoring all the like of this person. She came to church and we prayed together for month, she came to church and told me we don't have to pray for this miracle any longer. I questioned her to find that it was turned over to the heavenly Father. Years went by without thought of here progress with this beloved friend and their love for each other.
I was shocked to find out relecently that she had past away. I seen this gentleman in the same place she prayed and asked him of his exsistance, he just stated I need God to help me and her to understand, she loved me, but I didn't know how to love such a wonderful lady such as herself.
Myth is Gods plan is allow him to direct your heart and never fear love, fear lonliness more.
I can only pray this will help other facing these situations, God's there for all of you just take those babies steps, and God will truly guide you. God be with you and so be it
Amen

7/11/08 (22) Are you kiding? Just about every event Ellwood hosts includes a flyer in the paper. Do you not read them? Obviously not, or you would see that Inmetco usually has one of the largest adds in it, which costs the most money by the way. They pay for pretty much the entire Earth Day celebration in the park which gives away tons of free stuff to the public. Have you never seen the recycle containers in the park? Yep, Inmetco again. I guarantee you that if that place closed this town would suffer terribly. They pay their employees a fair wage and provide benefits for them, all of which trickles down to spending in the community. You know - new cars, furniture, groceries, Doctors and pharmacies. From what I understand, they have a strict drug and alcohol testing policy, and their employees have mandatory health screening bi-yearly. There is pretty much no job turnover making it very hard to get hired there. Do you think it's because they're polluting and poisoning everyone and keeping it a secret from the DEP, which by the way is there on a VERY regular basis monitoring them. I think their overall record with the DEP is a darn good one. A relative of mine works there, and believe me, if it weren't for the nepotism policy they have in place my husband and son would be trying to get in.

Congratulations to the Ellwood City 10 yr. old
All Stars. The team played today in Mercer and were awesome. They beat 2 teams by the mercy rule. After losing two girls to broken bones these girls went on to win, win, win. The team was complimented on their talent, sportsmanship, manners and team work. These little girls made Ellwood City proud. Team members were: Allie McKelvey, Emily Brown, Shae Beachem, Britt Cassuccio, Maggie Prokovich, Brooke Muntean, Megan O'Donnell, Caydee Clutter, Jodi Iddings and Tatum Tomak. The coaches were really first class. A big thanks to Pam, Ed, Julie and Jenna. A special thanks to Joe for the sponsoring the team and for the great uniforms. Keep up the great work girls.

Does any one else remember when the " Festival" was on Lawrence Ave.? I know it was there for a few years before it moved to the park.

Sorry, but the Arts and Crafts Festival was never on Lawrence Avenue. I was 11 years old when the festival started and it has always been in the park...I grew up in the Park and have many fond memories of going to the festival.

yes at one time there was a craft show on Lawrence Ave. It wasn't the arts & craft show we have now in the park. I'm not sure who had the show but I remember going to it about 6-7 years ago.

Why are men allowed to walk around Ellwood City and elsewhere with their shirts opened or off? What makes them so special that they are permitted, and allegedly entitled, to expose themselves for children and women to see?

Are we to believe males are good guys for looking as they do and for being as undressed as they so often are?

Don't you realize that the double standard which authority figures impose and enforce who tend to favor males at the expense of females with regard to their bodies/features, is a major reason why so many girls and women are (taught to) have problems with their self-image, self-esteem, to dislike their anatomies and themselves? It is also a major reason why "opposites" are so often at unhealthy odds with one another, and why "the weaker sex" is verbally, physically, sexually and otherwise abused by "the masculine gender"?

Males are given permission to think, say and do what is detrimental to females; and the fact that boys and men are instructed to remove more of their clothes than girls and women are permitted to, is one of the blatant examples of what I am referring to. This practice seperates males and females, it causes them to be adversaries. It "educates" boys and men to imagine themselves to be more important persons than females are said to be (accused of being).

How is it decent or moral for people to value males far more and to treat them much better than they perceive, judge and treat females? Yet on a daily basis, this is what is done, because grown-up pass their biases onto infants and toddlers, and discipline them in the beliefs and ways of their elders who insist it's normal and justified to glorify and promote boys and men, and to denegrate and victimize girls and women, on account of the grown-ups' prejudices for males and against females.

Frankly, I don't want to see any male, of any age, showing more of himself than a female is (not) supposed to of herself. And I don't want to talk to or have any male wearing less than a females must wear, speak to me. Why should I be expected or required to perpetuate the double standard which has always mandated that people be kinder to boys and men than they are to girls and women?

No doubt there will be many who will call me more of the names which I have already been subjected, and they will consider me to be someone with issues. So be it. That won't change the fact that the presumably "moral majority" creates the attitudes, policies and laws and encourage the behaviors by which boys and men are rewarded for being (misogynous) males, and girls and women are punished, persecuted, molested, raped and murdered by male family members, acquaintances, authority and strangers, among them authority figures.

So why should I want to see any male wearing less and exposing more of himself than females are forbidden to do? It makes no sense to participate in the tradition of being benevolent to boys and men, and malicious to and violent with girls and women on many levels.

Males not fully dressed, including not having their faces hidden with make-up or veils, or themselves, their necks, their chests (and "nothings" there), their arms, legs, ankles and all other parts concealed, are "better persons" than females, even modest ones? Obviously that isn't the case; so why perpetuate the myths and lies as if they were truthful?

Too many people are being harmed by the ways and means males are afforded good will while females are trashed, discriminated against and injured by others' words, misconduct and brutality, their contempt for girls and women, and the uncivilized convictions and acts of those who aren't female-friendlly, to say the least.

After reading the EC ledger story .I had to go and try Cowflops so I had the pleasure of trying Kilroy's Cow Flops and Elly sandwich this week. Let me tell you ,I am in the food business and always seem to judge and check out different aspects of the restaurant, like how clean it is the prices, service and the product.
This little restaurant was super clean, super friendly staff ,great food and great prices. What a nice change to Ellwood and they are homemade pierogies, they have several different types of pierogies to chose from.
After having a great experience I telephoned family and friends who also went on Friday and tried this great place they also had a great experience and told me that when then went to leave there were people waiting outside and the place was packed.

Lets hear of some juicy gossip on this site?????

07/14/08 (29)
I did not realize some of the affairs that have gone on at our local schools can anyone shed some light on this matter?

07/14/08 (30)
All men are greatand respect women (7/11/08 #12)? That is not factual. In fact males have throughout history and before thought of themselves as being more important persons than females, and many of them have harmed girls and women, and others.
Even men in uniforms, and male clerics, teachers, physicians, and of all walks of life have had many in their numbers who have victimized females, including their own family members. I find it ironic that when someone criticizes a

male they are accused of being worse than the males who have discriminated against, penalized, persecuted, forced themselves on and in many other ways caused girls and women pain and hardships.

Yet for some reason it is considered unacceptable for someone to take issue with the ways and means males have always preferred to not be respectful of females to the extent that boys and men demand that everyone value and treat males.

Certainly if females are supposed to take what awful things males have said about and done to them/their kind, why should males be exempt from being held accountable for their attitudes and behaviors which are detrimental to girls and women, or anyone or however many?

Certainly if the "weaker sex" is to be willing and able to take what they are subjected to," why shouldn't males be at least as willing and able to take what someone has to say about them?

We have many poor examples of men in public offices and positions of authority who weren't as "good" as we are told to believe was the case. So why should males be glorified and given approval if they aren't as benevolent toward females as they insist females must be toward them?

Many children and parents live each day with the hurt of not having a relationship with a parent this is very common and many of us have deep hurt because of a bitter divorce that either happened when we were young or older. As I have stated before, I have held my family together for the sake of my children I do not want my children to have to make choices about their parents and be torn in many directions it is not fair to them. I have alot of hurt in my marriage and yes I should have left but I was not giving up my home and financial security I worked 24/7 raising my children and keeping peace at my home and trying to be a good wife. I got to that point in my life that my husband could do what ever he wanted and I could not let him tear me apart anymore yes the affairs hurt but he was a great father and still is, the children are everything to him and my children know of the problems they are all older now and living their own life being great parents. My children often ask why did I stay and the older they get the more they are supported of my decisions. but you see I did not want my children to choose so I did the best I could and stayed with their father. Trust me this town talked about the affairs and everyone felt bad for me but I was aware of the sistuation and kept my head high because I was not putting my children through a divorce because mine would have been ugly.

My electric bill has gone up 50%. Seriously. I have an all electric house. New heat pump etc. I have NEVER had an electric bill this high. Not in the winter with my heating and not in the summer with my air. Of course, I call them. They said there is no longer an "electric only" rate. I get a winter rate and a summer rate. If I am all electric - it should remain the same rate. And of course, the electric rates have gone up since June 1 she said. Anyone else all electric? I would like to compare notes!

The Jeep dealership did not move to the end of Beaver Falls. The Dealership will remain on Lawrence ave, it is just under now ownership. Kasing Dodge Chrysler Jeep will now own the dealership, so you will still be able to get you vehicles serviced there.

Thank you for this info. When I'm wrong, I'll admit it. I was sadly missinformed about the whole story. Once again...Thank You and "Welcome Kasing's Dodge!".

Good old Ellwood Electric, I have a home in Ellwood that is a secondary home as I work out of state. When I get my monthly bill, I am always surprised the high price. In the summer I keep the AC at 85 and in the winter the heat at 55 with no one there to open the doors and all the shades closed I should have a very low bill. But if things go the way they did last summer when I get my July and August bill it will be at the very lest twice the amount. And of course when I called and complained about the increase I was told the company that supplies the power has raised there rate so Ellwood has to raise the rates. It scares me to think what my rate will be when I am once again living in the house. Oh btw, do they read the meter every month? I know that the gas company is to lazy to that.

Someone posted that a woman was pulled over by the police on Golf Ave in Ellport. I am amazed. I have lived in Ellport for over 55 years and have never seen that happen even one time.

Hello all, I arrived in your town for your wonderful festival, that I have always enjoyed. This year seemed very different, ok so we had a woman running for candidate for president, does this give the female population the right to try and control, lower and destroy the males in your fine city. There has been a rash of this in the world and without further adue I would like to say any woman acting in this manner should consider, these men and all men work very hard to protect and care for you in numerous ways.
This world does not belong to women, this is a man's world by the word of God. Bible reader truly know that woman have there place and it is supporting, remaining silent to public issues and most of all loving all men for our freedom.
Freeedom was given to all by men at war whether it be on the battlefield or in the mind of men, they have a God given instinct to uphold and protect all women, so for today, lets give thanks to men and pray for their strength.
To all the men out there in love with women that can't seem to understand by their action they have belittle men to think they are not good enough for these women. This behavior, can hurt men in ways that they can not open up and share with women. God please give us all time to reflect and examine our own character flaws, within this search irractifing change can stop this need to make these men feel small, release this act and all can remain happy. Give thanks to God and glory will be done.
Amen

I am still on the "old" meter and my electric bills are outrageous... The electric dept has no answers for me and my 'wheel" in the meter spins so fast I can play a CD on it...

I was hoping the new meters were more accurate.

Pondering thought... I witnessed a gentleman sitting at a gravesite, talking to his wife, with my tear filled eyes I sat there for a moment and then approached him, with the intent to extend a smile and a hand to hold. He calmly looked up at me weeping stating "why didn't I tell her I loved her" loving her all my life and never having the nerve to tell her.
I felt his pain as I stood there helpless, this experience gave me something ponder and express. There are so many hurting people in this world that for some reason that are experiencing this same situation, I pray to God anyone reading this think about my experience, and trying extending a hand or a hug to someone we all can say we know that is hurting. God be with us all.
Amen

Has anyone spoken with "Dave" at that new place Keystone Sojourns? It's a canoe trip/rental place that just opened in Ellport. I love canoeing so I think he'd be a neat guy to talk to. I hope it succeeds but dont know how many people in/near EC are into it. Hope it's not another flash in the pan good idea that fails.

Why would I pay to canoe in the polluted Conequenssing Creek?

We too had a wonderfull time at your festival.
We thought the prices were great considering what food in the stores are selling for.

You may be in luck. I know a Pakistani who is interested in opening a Ford dealership locally.

Do not concern yourself with it, pastor. An anonymous forum encourages attacks. I strongly recommend everyone retain their anonymity while anyone can post here anonymously.

Inmetco does no more harm to the people of Ellwood than any other mill. They wouldn't be around so long if they did. Also, they donate TONS of money back to the community so quit your complaining.

About tons of money name how much and when, didn't think you could.

Does anyone have a solution to kill japanese beetles. Do those beetle bags really work or is it better to not use them since they might just attract the beetles that may not have been there without the bags? Except for the tomatoes, they are eating everything in my garden !! Please help.

I don't ever remember the festival being on Lawrence Ave, But I do remember the weeklong sidewalk sales which was usually in the first week of August. I also remember the Community band used to play in front of the municipal building on Friday nights and yes all the stores were open till 9:00 at night.

And i agree other industries do harm. But Inmetco was just fined.Donated money does not may it ok to dump toxic waste on our head.My point is if Inmetco was fined by the DEP then what they are dumping on us is bad. Inmetco is paying a fine to the DEP.The peopel of this community not the DEP are the ones at risk.No donation makes it right.

As for the plank being thrown in front of the speeder, If the driver was not speeding he would be able to stop in time so as to not hit the plank. It could have been a child. You just want to start someting. You probably are the speeder looking for a law suit. And I hope you get caught!

That isn't true at all. The timing of your throw, the weight of the board, the wind, the height, the force of the throw, and the attention of the driver, have to be considered before allowing such a stupid act to occur! I may or may not be the speeder you are referring to. I go through Ellport quite often taking my kids to ball games. I have a suggestion for you. Ask the people who park in front of the posted speed limit signs to move their vehicles so those signs are clearly visible to drivers! I drove down gulf last night and didn't see a single speed sign until I made an effort. As for a law suit.. That would be the nicest thing I would do to you.

07/11/08 (28)
Does any one else remember when the " Festival" was on Lawrence Ave.? I know it was there for a few years before it moved to the park.

Sorry, but the Arts and Crafts Festival was never on Lawrence Avenue. I was 11 years old when the festival started and it has always been in the park...I grew up in the Park and have many fond memories of going to the festival.

Ya know, that 'noone' word has always, well, bugged me. After the question posed yesterday, I went to Merriam-Webster and typed it in. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/noone
I guess it's a case of use your own judgment on it. But it still comes up, like right this moment, underlined, saying that the computer believes it to be incorrect.

Pastor Dennis Craig - First Baptist Church

Youre apology is accepted.Howevre i just dont think you get it. You have not lived her long enough to know the people or how good teh pastors are. And youre constant posting on here leaving your name and title. Cheepins your calling and the gospel. Many ministers in this town have done a wonderful job of leading people to Christ. And helping them. Without useing this sight to promote there church. The fact that you must comment on evrything and answer everyone on here shows that you are full of youself. Let this layperson give you some advice "Let him increase, so you can decrease"

what is the correct way to write "no one"?? I believe that is the correct way but I see more and more educated people writing "noone"

Funny, you mention that. I always thought the ones who used "noone" were the uneducated ones. And I'll stand by that.

seems to me that many of the posters here have major issues and need professional guidance and not the type you get on soundoff...go to your church pastor or an elder, even a former teacher or counselor...how about an older relative or co-worker that you have bonded with...I would not take advice from anyone posting on this site!!

RE: 07/09/08 (53)
I dialed the phone and he answered - my father. Not a stranger, but yet one of my own making. He said hello, then repeated hello several times. One more 'hello' with no response from my end, I'm sure he would've hung up. Through my tears I said, "Dad? It's me, and I just called to tell you I love you." I listened for a response. Quiet. That period of silence told me this was wrong! How stupid I was! But then I noticed that it wasn't silent, he was crying. And he told me he had always loved me. Always. That it didn't matter how old I got to be, I would always be his baby girl.

Yes this was very long... but so worth the read... especially the part that I've included above... this part imparticular brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Far too many parents burden their children with hurts like these... I hope some took the time to read this and learn from it. ~T

The Jeep dealership did not move to the end of Beaver Falls. The Dealership will remain on Lawrence ave, it is just under now ownership. Kasing Dodge Chrysler Jeep will now own the dealership, so you will still be able to get you vehicles serviced there.

Although signing your name to each and every post on Sunoff SOUNDS like a good idea, it really isn't. What if someone writes a nasty post and decides to sign someone else's name to it???
I have always enjoed this site because you can speak your mind and not be judged by where you live, how much money you do (or do not) make, where you work or what your last name is. On this site you freely express your faceless opinion. I like it that way. Always have, always will.

Dear Ashe's mom (7/9 (53))
Your story is remarkable. Through some portions, tears were streaming down my cheeks. Not sure what else to say, but this is surely worth reading a few times to understand how blessed we all are in this life regardless of circumstances!! Thank you, and to the original poster posing the question about a relationship with your dad, read this a few times. You won't find better advice anywhere. Take it from Ashe's mom, one who's been there.

07/10/08 (11)
Wow.

First, please let me apologize for a few things.

At no point was I ever trying to insinuate that I am better than any other preacher in this area. I am well aware of the traditions and ministries which have gone on for many years in Ellwood.

Secondly, adding my name to my posts is not a way for me to "advertise myself" or my church. I put my name on my posts because I am not ashamed of anything I say or have said. I am not afraid of repercussions, because anything said in an open debate is healthy.

Mainly, I honestly hope that people do not get the wrong idea about me or what i say. I am not judging anyone, nor do i find that it is my job to correct people. However, I have been given a calling by God, as have many other ministers, to speak God's truth. I don't have a corner on the truth. I don't have the only opinion out there. However, I believe that what I speak is biblically based, and I stand by that.

Finally, I never want to hurt or harm anyone. If you were hurt by anything I have said, i sincerely apologize. My only desire is for the Christian community to be united in Ellwood. I don't want division in the body. I am also not willing to stand by if something is being said regarding Christianity which is not true. Take that for what it's worth.

I hope you will understand where I am coming from. if not, I would love nothing more than to meet with any of you who have questions or who are upset. Maybe a cup of coffee at Thanks-a-latte or a burger at Christy's.

After saying all of that, I will close with the fact that my ultimate desire in all that i do is that people would come to a closer relationship with Jesus. I could care less about fame or name notoriety. I simply want people to stop being judged in church, stop being afraid of coming to church. Come as you are, and let Christ make you what you can become.

Sincerely,
Pastor Dennis Craig - First Baptist Church

since we got a new digital meter our bills are almost 1/2 of what they used to be. i'm sure once they realize the money they will be losing out on they will find 'fault' with the digital meters and go back to the 'special' ones we used to have. my bill is now more in-line with what i used to pay at my old larger house.

Dom Vicarri has such an imagination - I live in the Park and there were not 40,000 people at this year's festival .......please....add some more tables so we can sit down when we eat....for the small amount of visitors there were not enough tables.....

How did you count all the people?

07/10/08 (28)
Yes, I did get an electric bill since the new meters were installed. It is insane. dated 6/24/08 consumption adj. 232KW. I read the meter on 6/24 and got 543KW. billed for the 232. Did not get a reading for 5/24 and I am waiting for an explanation. To date - 7/8 the reading is 749KW. We sit in the dark, unplug the TV when not in use, cannot afford the run the AC. Do you realize what my bill will be by 7/24 @.1283 per KW. I cannot get an educated explanation. Only because I doubt if the dept. knows what to say. I have complained, but I do not get a sensible answer.
Where is my May 24 reading?

Re: 07/08/08 (14)i would like some advice. (Mom and Dad)

People may be upset that this is so long, so I have asked the moderator to post this last. Less wear and tear on the scroll wheel.

Not having visited this site in a while, I'm glad I finally did today. Having experienced a similar situation in past years, here goes:

thank you very much for this post. i'm not the one who was seeking the advice but i'm a mother who is guilty of doing my best over the years to make my husband pay for what i considered him to not be a good husband to me. reading all of these posts makes me sorry to say the least. he really didnt deserve to lose his kids. i'm going to take some time to soul search and hopefully have the courage to rectify this. they all deserved better.

Enough about the prices of food at the festival so you had to pay $1 more or .50 more - hasn't your grocery bill gone up? Mine has - these are our community organizations, church organizations and school organizations - let them have their fundraisers most of them will benefit you in the end anyway!

to the boy who needed advice on his mother lying to him about his dad.
heres my advice: welcome to the real world.this kind of stuff happens all the time and your not alone. if you ever marry and have kids and your marriage ends make sure you have legal access to your kids and spend time with them no matter what the cost. dont ever give the wife the opportunity to lie about you. always be civil in front of the kids no matter how irrational she might be. in the end the k
