As far as a gentle dentist for children, our entire family goes to Dr.
Rick Roth across from Giant Eagle. He is the most pleasant person and
very good with our children too.
Good luck finding a dentist you like.

Where have all the dads gone?
07/10/07 (04)
Indeed, The Povertyneck Hillbillies are absolutely phenomenal. They
would be an excellent addition to the festival. They surely would bring
alot of people to the festival!! We should try and get them here for
next year. I think local donations are a wonderful idea. They take
donations for a dog, why cant they take them to get great music brought
into town.. I can assure you if you go to one concert of Povertyneck
Hillbillies, you will be hooked and will want them in Ellwood City as
well!!
07/10/07 (05)
RE(5) I didn't ask the question - and the original poster simply asked
where to get dinner after 8:00 - not for parenting advice!
07/10/07 (06)
re( 16) they played the Butler fair and are playing the Lawrence County
fair - why not E.C.
07/10/07 (07)
re (24) Try ESB - great rates!
07/10/07 (08)
You have adult children and still you hold two jobs each? I think you
are changing your story to keep an arguement going. But should it be
true: Old people should not be driving after dark! Buy a crock pot and
put your dinner on to cook when you leave for dinner!
:> Okay enough with this- First of all I am not older than 50, so just
stop it with the nastiness!
And I am well aware of the usefulness of a crock pot!
My original comment was "Why is there no place to eat after 8pm - why
should I have to drive out of town to do so?"

It doesn't matter if it's Riverside or Ellwood, the cheering situation
is exactly the same. Always has been, always will be. The people running
the show are cheerleading parents that don't care about much of anything
except their own daughters making the squad year after year. They don't
have to answer to anyone or be fair. Your best bet is to not support the
midget cheering program in either district. It's only when the community
as a WHOLE has had enough of their behavior that things will ever
change. People complain but those same people sign their daughters up
year after year.....why? BOYCOTT them...don't give them your money, your
daughters or your public support, maybe then they'll get the hint.
HAHAH!! I bet I know who wrote this! Boycott? Ohhh thats funny! Thanks
for making me laugh!
07/10/07 (10)
Wow, what an excellent idea!!! I have heard the Povertyneck Hillbillies
perform and they are superb!! That would be excellent to get them to
sing in Ellwood City for the festival. A big band like that would
attract a huge crowd. Povertyneck Hillbillies have alot of fun when they
perform and thats what we need to do is have fun in life. I would be
willing to donate to bring entertainment like them to the festival!!
07/10/07 (11)
I enjoy BE Taylor, I usually work while he is singing so I have no idea
what he looks like, but I can tell you, A LOT of the people at the
Festival Friday night were there to see and hear him! If a new act is
something the Festival committee is considering, what about "The
Clarks"? They are locals (Pittsburgh area) as well. Their music is
fantastic and nonoffensive which I think would make them perfect for
such an event! I do not know what they charge, just offering a
suggestion.

Did anyone ever stop to think that some girls actually make the squad on
their own??? Not because of their last name, or who their parents are???
I know someone who is living proof of this fact.

Oh yes you CAN get in for free! Many do! No one checks pool passes!

I want to take a home equity loan. Does anyone have any suggestions
where to get lower interest?
Don't do it. It takes too long to pay it back. Not enough of your
payment goes to the principle; most of it is interest.
07/10/07 (20)
If you want to get a BIG name Band with local ties then you should get
The Clarks! Obviously these types of bands are BIG $$$$. But since
everybody has all the answers on dot.org then lets put all the Local
(Pittsburgh) names out there! Poverty Neck Hillbillies, The Clarks,
Cherry Monroe. As long as we have people in charge of the entertainment
who put Elvis Impersonator or Frank Sinatra Impersonator on stage as the
Big Act for the night the Festival will remain stagnant. We have some
very good local bands that would draw more people than the Impersonators
lip-syncing. The Festival Committee should be trying to make the
Festival bigger and better every year! From what I understand talking to
the vendors this is one of the cheapest fees around for a spot! Maybe
they could increase the fees alittle bit and get some great
entertainment to go with great food, and a great Festival! It will only
help Ellwood City!

I have solved all my issues with school - we use a cyber school, it's
wonderful!
Re: You have solved your problems with school? Every kid I have known
that has attended cyber school is there because they are too lazy to
wake up and go to school. Their parents are sick of fighting with them
and sign them up for cyber school. The parents love it! They get to go
to work, leave their kid at home to sleep in, and let a computer teach
them! This is the society we are living in and too many lazy parents and
kids are going "cyber" - it's not school when you don't interact with
other kids face to face and have the opportunity to talk to a REAL
teacher.

In responce to 7-9-07#44 I work for the company that is doing the work
on 488. And as far as the flag people on the job are concerned,they
don't need people complaining about how they do their job. If all the
people that yell and moan that they don't know what they are doing I
dare you to do better if you think you can. I have seen people drive
right by when the sign is on stop and flip the flagger off. And the
names they get called and can't respond because the motorist might stop
and tell a boss and get them fired. So when you drive through a
constuction site please remember before you complain about the way
traffic is controlled,it's not an easy job like some people think it is.

Does anyone know how to get rid of a wart?
Here is another one... Apple cider vinegar. My son had a large wart on
his arm. We soaked a small piece of cotton in vinegar each night and
secured it over the wart with a bandaid. It was completely gone in about
10 days and hasn't come back (this was after an over-the-counter product
did nothing). It also worked on a plantar wart but took a little longer.

Talk about tradition at the festival. Our family has sat in the same
spot for 27 years. Right behind the information booth.by the water
fountain. We leave our chairs overnight and never has any of them been
taken.We always have extra chairs for whoever stops by Now that is a
plus for Ellwood City, We are there for all 3 days from noon til' 10.
Several of our family members live out of town and make it a point to
not break tradition. Fun is had by all. I think this year had a lot of
new items and who cares if someone sneaks something in from China. And
the food was great,I think we had one of everthing. Thank you to the
workers who did a great job again this year. Lookin' forward to next
year, So stop by and visit with us. You know where to find us Barbara

the news papers downtown and i cant believe that you are telling my
mom/dad how do raise their kids you should be ashamed of nobody but your
self for telling everybody who reads these comments and now everybody

everyperson that you can possibly tell because you are making my mom/dad
look like bad parents and i know for a fact that they arent because i
couldnt ask for anything better out of them... and my mother took care
of the situtation so you dont have to worry about it so keep your
comments to your self!!!!!!

Cars will cruise to Ellwood City
New Castle News
The Back to the 50’s car cruise departs Cascade Park at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday for Ellwood City. The cars will travel south on Route 65 into
Ellwood and across the Veterans Memorial Bridge to Beaver Avenue. They
will head west to Eighth Street one block, then east on Lawrence Avenue.
Lawrence Avenue will be blocked off between Fifth and Eighth streets for
about two hours. Some of the downtown shops will remain open during the
cruise.
WOW 2 hours. Looks like the guys that had there cars in Ellwood could
only give us 10 min. of there time. We didn't even get to walk to see
all the cars and they left. I think this will be the last time I go see
the car cruise. If there going to print something for people to show up
then they should at least stay so we could see the cars. Why waste my
time. Or better yet why bother driving from New Castle for 10 min.
I agree, I gave up a couple years ago. We pulled up to Lawrence Ave and
everything was closed.
You would think it would be organized better on Ellwood's part.

7/6/07 (31)-- May I ask you how you know that POVERTYNECK HILLBILLIES
want $15,000? Has anyone ever looked into it? Or are you just saying a
figure? I know for a fact that they did a benefit concert in Pittsburgh
to help a school get a football field and they raised $25,000 for the
football field and did not get a penny out of it. And if $15,000 is a
FACT, they very well are that good. If you do not believe me, go see
them in concert-- then come back and tell me. You need to see them in
concert first and then I can bet you that you will be going to Wal-Mart
to buy their CD!!!

7/6/07 (31) Maybe we can raise the money for the povertyneck hillbillies
to come to the festival by asking local banks to put their picture up
and ask for a donation and then you can sign your name on it and they
can hang it up on the wall, like we do for the police dog!! Or make it

Finally..someone has enough sense to understand that the Poverty Neck
Hillbillies would be way too expensive and probably not enough time in
their schedule to stop in such a small town. They go on tour. They are
nationally known and are even on CMT. Don't get me wrong, it would be
awesome if they'd play here, but there's a difference between getting
them to play in Ellwood, than there is getting B.E. Taylor to play in
Ellwood. If we could pull something together to get them here, I'm all
for it!

It is a shame that the Riverside kindergarten girls were not given any
information reguarding the cheering "try outs" for this year, even
though all of the first year cheerleaders make the squad. We have a very
talented 6 year old with dance and gymnastics experience who would just
love to cheer for her team, but no one will give her the opportunity to.
When I inquired about sign ups at the cheering camp held by the
Boosters, I was blown off by two of the officers. What a shame!!!!
07/09/07 (20)
Re: #10 on 7-5:
I agree with your point. It seems as if things can be blown out of
proportion here and a poster made to feel foolish for sharing an
opinion. I read that some are unwilling to use the Park pool because of
poor behavior but yet they must condone unruly behavior in their
neighborhoods. Then it's back to saying youth are acting up on Lawrence
Ave. Let's get it straight: if we are the type of adults we think we
are, then let's speak clearly what we want in this town. Sure, kids
should have fun but we must have reasonable expectations for their
behavior.
And yes, there is alot of improvement needed at the high school. The
school is shabby with dirty restrooms and desks from the seventies.
Teachers walk in late and some go through the day without teaching much.
It is small wonder that the kids feel mixed up and directionless in our
town too often. So how do we fix things?
07/09/07 (21)
What the heck has become of this city? I just came back from the (so
called) car cruise. It was over before it got started,and I was told
that the city gave the cruisers 15 min. on Lawrence Ave. Why is it that
every time something comes along that people enjoy some one in the
higher ups ruins it. Whats next'an 8 hour time limit on the festival?
And one more thing,I bet it took longer to hang the no parking signs
than the cruise lasted. (nice way to waiste money guys)

Visit you family doctor. A wart is a virus.

did this every day till it was gone in a few weeks. Also duct tape works
to.

The festival was nice. Just wondered how the hand made in China counts
as a craft or an art. I would bet close to half of the booths were
filled with wholesale items. Not my idea of art or craft, more like flea
market.
Funny as a ex crafter the E.C. craft show use to send out papers saying
everything had to be home made.
This year I noticed alot of things that was not home made. How did these
people get away with this. What happened to the police lady that did all
the checking? Looks like she didn't do her job this year. I also noticed
in the paper it said 51 new crafters this year. Since they only have
room for so many crafters I can understand why so many people quit this
show and they got new ones. Maybe they need new management. Oh by the
way the entertainment
was great. So was the food.

To the person who commented on my son and his friend taking papers out
of the paper boxes downtown. First of all, your comments have several
misspelled words, so maybe you should use a little tool I like to call a
dictionary. Second, since I know that you know me, my son and his
friend, I can assure you that for you to question my parenting skills is
a complete oxymoron. The fact that we (meaning the boys Mothers) made
them take responsibility for their actions is exactly the type of
parenting that is needed, but very much lacking,in this town. Our type
of parenting keeps children from progressing into scratching cars in
parking lots and eventually doing drugs, or worse, maybe being sent to
jail several times for those types of offenses. You, reader, should be
ashamed of yourself for blaming the "peer pressure" for the boys
actions. They both knew better. My son and his friend both are great
kids. They have both been brought up by mothers who do not tolerate this
type of behavior and trust that when they say they are going to get
something to eat, that's what they are actually doing because we have
never experienced this type of problem with them in the past. The bottom
line is this, they did not control their impulses, they did a bad thing,
and they confessed. That is more than I can say for most adults let
alone 11 & 13 year-old boys. For you to judge me and my decisions as a
parent on soundoff is not only cowardly (since I know you know my phone
number), but also a little bit funny considering I am well aware of your
parenting skills as well. Grow up, mind your own business, and don't
worry about our boys. We can personally assure you that our sons will
not end up like those "druggies" downtown because they are raised by
good mothers. If you, reader, don't like the fact that I have made my

What happened to the picnics in the park, drove by July 4 and not much
happening. Use to be there was a waiting list to get a shelter on the
weekend,now most are empty every weekend. Not even many graduation
party's going on.

With all the changes going on in Perry Twp. someone shouls check
the properties on Palto Alto Dr. some of them are recorded in the names

IS Lincoln having a 1977 class reunion this year?
Most class reunions seem to take place duing the Thanksgiving weekend.
Is that the case this year for 1977? Any idea who is in charge?

Many kids have allergies anymore and I would never want to be
responsible for a child getting hurt because I HAD to make my peanut
butter cookies, or candy, or whatever. Some kids are even allergic to
red dyes. Let's just end the bickering, let go of our childhood and face
that the world has changed. I also thank God EVERYDAY that my child does
not have to grow up with a food allergy that could kill him and I admire
the parents who deal with it on a daily basis and do what they can to
raise awareness instead of forcing their kids to live in isolation.

Your post made my day. someone out there acutally saying what you did.
my child was just diagnosed with a food allergy and breaks my heart when
he come home from school last year because he coulnt have a cupcake the
birthday kid brought in. but thats just the way we have to deal with it.
and i have also worked with the school so they didnt have to deal
completely with his lunches. i send lunch and breakfast with my child so
that the certain things he can eat on the menu it can be givin to him.
so its really been good with the school this far..but thanks for that
comment its good to know someone is understanding

Does anyone have any complaints about the people directing traffic on
488? I was almost in 2 accidents because they dont pay attention to
other traffic or they are on a blind bend 3 or 4 miles beyond the signs.
I went through yesterday and the lady was walking down the road with the
slow side of the sign facing me and she screamed at me for going. I
think they need to pay attention before someone gets hurt or killed due
to their neglect.

PNH is definitely one heck of a group to go and see. They're playing at
the Butler Fair tomorrow along with Craig Morgan and Trent Tomlinson. I
know if PNH were to play at the festival sometime, that there'd be
people from EVERYWHERE coming to see them! I've seen them 5 times, and
tomorrow I'll be seeing them again! I've met all the guys, and they're
great...really good guys with awesome morals..maybe the festival
committee SHOULD think about adding THEM to the lineup sometime!!

Does anyone know how to get rid of a wart? I just found one growing on
my leg. I'm sure someone will think this is funny but I am very worried
about this. I have never had a wart before.
Visit you family doctor. A wart is a virus.

that works. If not get to a doctor.

just a little note to the riverside cheering officers.its a shame that
little girls ages 6and 7 are already being singled out for the 'cheering
type' myself along with 4 other mothers whos daughters are were in
different classes this past year did not receive any information on
cheering try outs and when we called a few officers for help we got no
response.its a sad day when ur picking and chooseing your squads based
on name not on what they can do...its a shame ...
Your daughter is young so you probably don't know this.. Riversides
cheering programs have always been about the name! ALWAYS!

You may be able to fool some people with this rubbish but Im not buying
it! You use the word famly. If you and your spouse are both working till
8 at night who is watching your children? Why are they being made to
wait for their dinner until 8pm for a choice you have made? If you can
"afford to eat out as often as you wish" why don't you quit a job and
raise your family properly?! PRIORITIES!

We have live in Ellwood City for four years, just a few blocks from
Ewing Park. The houses in our neighborhood are nice with flowers and
gardens and children. If the children are out after dark their parents
are outside also. I have never heard of the game "jail break" or
corning. Is this something going on only in the Park? We love our
neighborhood and the quiet Town.

7/5/07 (14)-- I agree with you 100%!!! It is a shame that Ellwood City
does not know how MANY more people would be at the festival if the
POVERTY NECK HILLBILLIES played there. The POVERTY NECK HILLBILLIES have
a BIG following and people actually travel to go see them. That is how
good they are. These people think B.E.Taylor brings a crowd--- try the
Poverty Neck Hillbillies. They are so energetic and pull the audience in
within 5 minutes of their performance. It is a real shame, they do not
know more about the POVERTY NECK HILLBILLIES. All I got to say is it is
their loss. I can bet my bottom dollar that they would get a turnout
that would put them in AWE!!! I am not saying not to bring B.E. back in
a couple of years, BUT it is time for a change. And what's up with
having B.E. play on the first night of the festival? Wouldn't you think
they would have him here the night of the fireworks?

Does anyone know how to get rid of a wart?
There are many over the counter treatments you can try. One is drops
that are applied directly to the wart. It will disolve it in about two
weeks. You could also try to freeze the wart (cost $19 to $25). Ask your
local pharmacist, they'll point you in the right direction. Don't wait,
if untreated, warts get rather large and then they may need to be
surgically removed.

The Veterans Memorial Pool has not been the same since Brad Ovial left!

In response to: It's as funny as the people who purchase an acre in the
country and then expect to be able to ride quads and hunt on everyone

I totally agree with this statement! There is NOTHING more annoying than
someone with very little property who thinks it's perfectly okay to ride
or hunt on your property. Yes, we've posted "no tresspassing" signs over
and over again, only to have them ripped down!
Most of the neighbors are very respecful but some are REALLY rude! One
neighbor has gone as far as to use our fields for a personal golfer's
driving range. My car has been hit twice!

The festival was nice. Just wondered how the hand made in China counts
as a craft or an art. I would bet close to half of the booths were
filled with wholesale items. Not my idea of art or craft, more like flea
market.
07/06/07 (21)
I think having a group like Povertyneck Hillbillies would draw in a HUGE
crowd at the festival!! That would be great if they performed.... I know
all of my friends and I would be there cheering them on!

"07/05/07 (29)
Why do people not abide to this rule and why weren't these dogs asked to
leave the festival? Will it take one dog to bite someone before
something is done?
**As I worked a booth that served food, we had a woman purchase an item
then proceed to set her little dog on the counter where it was quite
obvious we were placing food for pick up. Now I grew up in a home where
dogs were and still are outside pets. The closest they come to our
dinner table is getting leftovers. So this completely grossed me out. I
asked that she remove the dog from atop the counter as it is unsanitary
and other customers may not appreciate it. Her reply was "my dog is
cleaner than most people at this festival" to which I countered "maybe
so but they aren't perched on the counter". She gave me the look of
death and picked her dog up. These dogs are like pictures of the
grandkids, you're the only one that truely appreciates them!"
I will mention this to someone who can enforce that dogs be banned from
the festival grounds. Hopefully it will make a difference for next year.
Thanks for posting this incident.

Response to securtiy at the school... There is a gaping hole in the
security and it has not been addressed in 2 years. It will take a major
catastrophe for the problem to be addressed. Bring it up to the board...
they have known for years but security has a price tag and they are not
willing to spend the money to fix the problem. How much is your kids
safety worth? It only takes one incident and then who is responsible?

I think that if you want the festival to continue to be a success, and
draw people to our town, you need to cater to more people. B.E Taylor is
great, maybe you can look into getting the Poverty Neck Hillbillies? Not
everyone is in their 40's. What is with the cloggers? You have to be
like 80 to enjoy that! you have the same thing every year. i have gone
every year, i don't think i will waste my time next year!
Do you have any idea how much the Poverty Neck Hillbillies cost? While
they are good, the festival committee can't afford them and the sponsoes
will not spend 15,000 for a two hour gig. oh and by the way, some people
enjoy clogging. You see the idea is to get a lot of different groups
doing different things. Since obviously you like the Hillbillies, Maybe
you can find a sponsor who will pay their fee.

re:07/05/07 (12)
About the Ewing Park Pool- When I was a kid in the late 70's and early
80's it was bad. When I took my own kids, it was still the same- we went
about 10 years ago, and never went again because of the behavior and
language of so many kids. I blame the management for allowing these
punks to be dropped off all day without any supervision. So we got a
family pass for the pool in West Pittsburgh. It was great and still is.
Try the Taylor Township Pool in West Pittsburgh. It's like night and day
compared to Ellwood.
Thanks for the post, but I have to say isn't it a shame that we have to
drive our kids way out of town to use a public pool? Our taxes are
paying to run that pool, right? Why does this continue and why doesn't
anyone do anything about it? We go to Zeli and Cranberry Twp. pools for
the same reason. Are we all afraid noone will listen? We just go other
places instead of trying to fight it. I am interested to see though that
there are others in the area who do not like the element here at all. I
always thought everyone accepts it and that is just the way it is in
Ellwood City. Thanks for sharing the info.

Did anyone read in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette about the Statue of
Liberty replica at Lincoln High School? There aren't many left, and it's
very interesting to read about! To read and see pictures of other Lady
Liberties around the country, go to
http://troop101.thescouts.com/liberty
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, I've lived here all
my life (not as many years as the statue though!) and I never knew the
story behind the statue... like the teacher in the article said... I
just always thought it was something the school decided to put up once
upon a time. And kudos to Jordan for deciding to clean the statue for
his senior project!

Re: Next year in the Ellwood City Elementary schools students will not
be permitted to bring any kind of food or drink to school for parties or
birthdays. No kind of food what so ever. Parents what are your thoughts?
If you didn't have a problem with this you wouldn't have posted
obviously.
Welcome to the 21st century, Ellwood. When my child started school I
must say I was shocked that it wasnt already in place. Call some PTO's
around the state and see that this has been in place for many years
already.
I am not perfect and I do allow junk to my kids at times, but, certainly
not before school or after if we have to go somewhere. Some kids are
hyper enough without sugar and choclate. How many parties were held this
year in the middle of the week and then kids were expected to come back
and concentrate and sit still the rest of the week after being loaded
with sugar and sweets?
Many kids have allergies anymore and I would never want to be
responsible for a child getting hurt because I HAD to make my peanut
butter cookies, or candy, or whatever. Some kids are even allergic to
red dyes. Let's just end the bickering, let go of our childhood and face

Yes, it says no food of any kind because I am sure that the school is
tired of battling the yes and no list of foods. None- simple- no
arguing, no hurt feelings, no questions. Very smart on their part if you
ask me. I hope this is true and that we will see it enforced this year.
They have my support.

who is still looking for that special loser from the Ellwood bar scene.

Is there a curfew in Ellwood City? Kids running through yards, screaming
late at night. Come on parents, be parents, please.
Here is the original post and I can see how it was misinterperuted by
the jailbreak parents. But, if there are other kids running on people's
property it makes sense that the other harmless kids could be accused of
being the other group of kids, how would anyone know? Unfortunatly one
rotten apple spoils it for the bunch. Maybe this is why the person
wanted parents to be ashamed of the way their children acted in public.
Maybe this will give you a reason to make sure you know where your kids
are at all times. What if they are around someone's property during
their game and someone sees them in the dark and think it is the other
kids? How would someone know in the dark? I don't think it is a good
idea to let your kids wander around anywhere these days. Do you forget
the arsons? People are stil afraid of someone on their property that
doesn't belong there. What if someone tries to defend themselves and
hurts one of these kids? I am just making suggestions of why I would not
let my kids be where they shouldn't be.
I can see your explanation of why you feel your kids should be allowed
to run around in the neighborhood. You know your kids and you trust they
are not harming anyones stuff, but, how do other people know this?
You have to try and put yourself in anothers shoes.
I hope this helps. I don't feel it is people who just want to complain.
If it wasn't something that scared someone or disturbed them, I am sure
they could care less. Don't you think?

Contact the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City (the red brick

able to help you out! Good luck!

To the parents of the boys (ages about 11 to 13) that took the papers
out of the paper boxes on Tuesday, you ought to be ashamed of yourselfs
for letting them go unsupervised in the downtown area. With all the
druggies wandering down there, could you imagine the peer pressure that
might had been envoked on these children? Please don't just drop kids
this young off and expect them not to get in trouble. What if it was the

I think the poster wants the kids in town to stay in there houses and
play video games and get fat, instead of running around and having fun.
If the complainers don't wants kids running around your yard why don't
you put a fence around it?
Ok so why do people always think they own the world. The fact of the
matter is that if people don't want your kids in their yard for WHATEVER
reason, it's their right to say so. That's the beauty of personal
property.
It's as funny as the people who purchase an acre in the country and then
expect to be able to ride quads and hunt on everyone else's property. It
doesn't work that way.
I'm all for kids having fun, but how about not being so lazy and driving
them to one of the many parks around the area with ample room for them
to play whatever games they want. Of course, that would require you to
do something besides type and why should you be inconveinieced?!?
07/05/07 (10)
I am not sure how my post was turned into what it did, I was referring
to a pack of kids on the streets walking though neighborhoods screaming
and yelling at 10:30 at night, cursing and carrying on. Not sure where
you all went with it. There must be some people on the defense for some
reason somewhere else. I just came on here to see if there was a
response and was shocked at what I found. Not sure why people who were
not even involved, are responding. Not sure who is playing jailbreak
but, my post had nothing to do with you. I guess people are on the
defense because they think it may be a problem, not sure. Anyway, the
group of kids walking through the neighborhoods with foul mouths are the
ones that the parents should be ashamed of. I am certain I am not the
only one who has heard or seen them. That's why I asked about curfew.
Yes, kids will kids, not with mouths like that.
This website is dangerous. You never know how your post will be
interperted. Enough for me.

a threat to vulnerable students and staff.
DO we have a plan yet? Anyone know?

I think that if you want the festival to continue to be a success, and
draw people to our town, you need to cater to more people. B.E Taylor is
great, maybe you can look into getting the Poverty Neck Hillbillies? Not
everyone is in their 40's. What is with the cloggers? You have to be
like 80 to enjoy that! you have the same thing every year. i have gone
every year, i don't think i will waste my time next year!

Hello Ellwood City, just wanted to drop a line to say how our family
enjoyed the festival and visit with friends and family. It looks like
the change in the political scene has made a great improvement to the
roads in the area. Looking forward to making more than one visit per
year.

Surely someone knows a good exterminator to get rid of the flies in my
house.
I heard there was someone in Ellport that did this type of work and then
I heard there was someone in Wampum. Is this true?
Help please these flies are driving crazy.
Thanks for the help.

To the poster complaining about the dogs at the festival: The dogs were
asked to leave, but then officials discovered that dogs cannot in fact
understand English.
07/05/07 (27)
No food at parties at school? It's sad, but safe. Make sense? No. You
can never be too sure. Back when my kids were in school, early 80's, you
trusted everyone...and to not be trusted would have been an insult.
Birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's Day, it was cupcakes, cookies, all
homemade you name it. Those WERE the good old day! But now, you never
know what is going to happen...you don't know people as well as you used
to. Like the parades for example..no throwing candy...I agree. Even
Halloween treats---you just never know and it's better to be safe than
sorry. My "kids" are now in their late 20's early 30" and it's sad but I
would not want my grandchildren getting anything put in their food! I do
believe it's better to NOT have the food....although sad for the kids,
what kid doesn't look forward to those goodies??? And to those parents
who are just looking at the cost side. That never entered our minds as
parents then. We were on welfare for a couple years and I made cookies
and cupcakes from scratch for parties...and I am NOT afraid to say they
were the hit of the party!!!!
You just can't be too cautious in this day and time.

You don't have to be lazy to eat that late. My hours do not get me home
until 7, when do you want me to eat? As for the man, if he gets home

it.
:> Thank you for defending me as I'm the original poster of "no place to
eat after *pm -why?"

These dogs are like pictures of the
grandkids, you're the only one that truely appreciates them!

We both work a second job TOGETHER, 2 or 3 times a week, and when we're
finished it's our dinner time! I work 3 jobs (1 full time and 2 part-time)and
by no means am I lazy. I LOVE TO COOK AND I LIVE TO WORK! It's a timing
thing, we leave one job to go to another, it's just that simply. It's
has nothing to do with being lazy. I'd rather spend my free time
cleaning my house than cooking. I can afford to eat out as often as I
wish.
To bad we can't go somewhere close and have dinner dinner in a timely
fashion. I'll be the first to admitt that I'm well aware of the
consquencing of eating late and yadda, yadda. So back off! I AM NOT
LAZY!!
PRIORITIES!

To the poster who wanted to impeach Mrs. McElwain. I cannot disagree
with much if what you have written. However, I would rather take out the
bond for the roads than have the new supervisor take out a bond to run a
water line for Grandview Road.
That IS part of his platform. And why should all of us have to have our
taxes raised so that only a few can benefit? Especially since that
gentleman was part of the problem himself by selling property that he
knew would not have decent or adequate water. And now he needs a water
line up there so he can sell even more and smaller lots. Should a
supervisor be able to take out bonds that will benefit him financially?
Also, keep in mind that Ms. Marshall and Mr. Zias BOTH handed out cards
on election day for the third candidate. Mr. Zias even said that the
three of them were running together. That should warn you that if all
three win a seat this fall, we will be seeing more of their previous
shenanigans, with Ms. Marshall running the circus from behind the
scenes. Can't wait.

friendly and helpful, very nice.only thing i can see that could be

wise very nice."
I saw a notice in the paper that the only time pets were to be at the
festival was during the pet show on Friday. I must have counted 20 dogs
on leashes walking the grounds during the weekend (outside of the pet
show hours).
Why do people not abide to this rule and why weren't these dogs asked to
leave the festival? Will it take one dog to bite someone before
something is done?

I am sorry I am not positing anything constructive but I have found in
the past that this is a good place to give and get good advice....I am
in need of the frozen pies that the LHS Choir sells every
fall/winter....Long story short I have been keeping pies at my home for
someone that ordered a lot and I baked them all throughout the year and
I need to replace them. The pie owners are asking me to cough them up
they have room in their freezer now. Please if anyone can give me
information about them or where to find suitable replacements I would
greatly appreciate them getting me out of the boiling water I am in. Not
to mention the embarrassment.
Maybe contact the choir dept, they probably could tell you.
I do have to add that I would just refund their money and be done with
it. You sold them pies, not storage space.

Mr response to the no food at school parties or for birthdays: Good! I
don't like my kids eating treats from someone's house that I do not
know, anyway. Unfortunately, this is not 1977 Ellwood City. Can parents
send in other items for their kids' birthdays other than food? I think
that's better and safer, anyway - don't you? If they are saying that
there can be no parties then I guess that's going overboard. This is
still elementary school afterall. I don't know all of the facts, I
guess.

Next year in the Ellwood City Elementary schools students will not be
permitted to bring any kind of food or drink to school for parties or

I understand the need for this type of action due to so many life
threatening food allergies... but its also unfair to the other 99% of
the kids attending school. I remember the few times that I got to take
treats in for my birthday to share with my classmates, it was a huge
deal! And as my kids were growing up and still in elementary, it was a
huge deal for them as well. Its a shame that so many have to sacrifice
for so few... wouldnt it be better to get together with the parents of
the children with the food allergies and construct a list of things that
the other parents CAN send in for treats???
I mean... by banning everything completely... I see kids sneaking 'contriban'
into the school... wouldnt it be better to know whats coming in, than to
find out by an allergic reaction?

RE: 07/02/07 (02)
The recent trend of states adopting all out smoking bans has me a bit
perturbed.
It should bother you as well and I am going to tell you why.
First we all know and admit that smoking is not a healthy thing to do
and I will even concede that some may find it offensive. However, it is
not illegal.
The ban of a perfectly legal activity to take place in a privately own
business is a Pandora’s Box of government intrusion. If they would like
to ban smoking in all tax funded buildings then I am fine with that.
But, if I am an owner of a bar or restaurant than it is no ones place to
decide what legal activities I allow.
To do so is paramount to telling you what you can do in your own home.
I agree you have the right to not be subjected to smoke in my restaurant
and that’s why you are free to choose not to dine there.
Recently NY outlawed the use of trans fat containing oils to be used in
commercial kitchens.
What’s next? To stand by and do nothing while the government makes rules
concerning what is legal activities are allowed to go on opens a door to
bans on anything someone finds offensive or detrimental in some way.
Maybe I decide that rap music offends me and I organize a group of
people and get a few special interest groups behind me to lobby the
legislature to ban rap music in bars and clubs? I would not do this but
some people may. And it doesn’t have to be music, it could be anything.
We all know that bacon is not a health food, so let’s ban B.L.T’s while
we are at it and prevent some heart disease.
All I am saying is, we do not need Big Brother making all the rules as
to what’s good for us and what is bad. We all have brains and need to
make decisions as to what is best for ourselves.
It’s very simple; if you don’t like something that goes on in a given
place then don’t go there.
It’s America, there is unlimited choice and if we all kept our noses out
of everyone else’s business, we would all be a lot better off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I totally agree... and I am a non-smoker. No I dont enjoy cigarette
smoke, at times it even burns my eyes, but this isnt just a smoking
issue any longer.
Personally, I think that once they pass a smoking ban, they will turn
around and sell licenses for smoking in your establishment, just like a
liquor license.
Next year in the Ellwood City Elementary schools students will not be
permitted to bring any kind of food or drink to school for parties or
birthdays. No kind of food what so ever. Parents what are your thoughts?
I dont really think its that big of a deal. but to some parents its
going to be..and im sure this is due to the allergies at school. but let
me ask you a question. If your child was allergic to a certain food
would it be ok with you to have your child there. would it be ok with
you that he/she be exposed to it and possibly life threatening. Im not
the parent of the childrens with the allergies but my child does also
indeed have a allergy to food products. Invite the children they want to
there birthday party and they can have all the cake and food they
want..im all for not letting them bring in that stuff..I will say though
that i have taken treats that my child is allowed to have so when a
child does bring in food that he is not allowed he can have it so my
child is not just watching everyone else eat. Its not there fault they
have an allergy. alot of people blame the child or the parents but the
allergy that my child has to food is something i have never had in my
family or the fathers family it was all new to us..
i dont let my kids bring peanut butter jelly sandwiches to school
(although i know some parents do let theres)because i know those kids
are allergic to it...
I just have to say that our family went over to the ellwood city pool
last week and it was horrible. Do these parents know that kids arent to
be dropped of without adult supervision. The lifeguards arent there to
babysit your children. These parents drop there kids of and leave.i
yelled at 2 kids for snapping each other with there towels and in the
process tripping over my 3 year old. and the language these kids use..
no wonder they are the way they are they have parents that dont care
just drop them off and run home..those parents need to step up and be
parents. needless to say we wont be going back to the ellwood city pool.
Last year we went up to the taylor township pool and it was nice guess i
will be givin my money to taylor township now...
Since the drug bust was in the paper most of the felons are still
incarcerated but a few have been either released on ROR or have posted
bond. What I think should happen now is that the public should be
allowed to know the charges that were filed and the deal that the DA and
the police will make with the felons and how the charges are reduced.
Most the felons will be questioned and will make a deal usually after
the felon is willing to tell the police about other drug dealers and
users, this will only enable the cycle to continue, allowing the felon
to be released only to arrest another felon. I think that only minors
who reveal the names of adult drug offenders should be allowed to make
deals. The charges that are against the people arrested during the bust
warrant time in the state pen, lets see how many actually do this. I
think this has all just become a Playstation game. "DEAL" or "NO DEAL" I
say "NO DEAL"
Please just stop the whining pity party that you're trying to throw!
First, no one questions that the soldiers in Iraq are representing a
U.S. force for freedom; however, our military personnel is currently
serving on a voluntary basis, there is no draft in place, no one made
them go! Secondly, prior to Iraq, currently, and long after the current
war ends there will be family, friends, and fellow civilians supporting
those who take up arms to protect our rights and freedoms. Such support
comes in many forms, for instance, paying taxes, voting, and staying
up-to-date on current affairs both home bound and abroad. You're view
point of the US position in Iraq is quite narrow in that you assume that
everyone supports the US efforts in Iraq- this is not the case.
Furthermore, you assume that cutting the homeland grass, or offering
services to their families prior to them asking for assistance is
possible. Lady if the U.S. citizens were clairvoyant and knew what
people neede!
d prior to them asking for assistance the U.S. would never need to fight
a war. Lastly, keep in mind, God helps those who help themselves. The
backbone of this country is held upright by strong men, women, and
children that work and pray together for a common good. This country is
not the powerhouse that it is because our homeland people sit around
pitifully waiting for unsolicited handouts. If you are being taken
advantage start reading the fine print before you sign a contract, and
if you are not able to read or care for yourself during you husbands
absence the military provides (via US tax dollars) legal and
psychological counseling.
That was not a threat to the neighbors about corning but some people
just have to complain about everything little. I just stated that the
kids in our neighborhood corn (as I did when I was a child) I also
stated that if you do not want the kids to run thru your yard. Contact
the kids parents so they stay out of your yard. I have a neighbor who
doesn't allowed the children in their yard. The kids in the neighborhood
respect thier wishes or they get the wrath at home. None of the other
neighbors complain. Let the kids be kids because I am one of those
parents who chose to let the kids play in my yard and neighborhood
instead of hanging at the pool parking lot or running the main street of
Ellwood. I guess you can put me into the category of a bad parent!!
Which I don't mind at all. My children are good kids who have manners
and respect for other people as do most the kids in our neighborhood. I
just get tired of people complaining about todays youth. They play in
yards people are mad. They hang out people are mad. Please tell me what
"you" would like the children of the town to do!!! You seem to have the
answeres and also seems you missed out on a enjoyable childhood.
Thank you all for your comments on my dilemma with the Ellwood City
Electric.
As an update, the $100 fee was not a reconnect fee. It was a fee for
having the gentleman come out after hours to reconnect. It was his
overtime pay. The additional $25 fee was the reconnect fee.
I am happy to report, both fees have been waived and my current electric
bill was paid in person at the window, as I will do with all my bills
going forward.
I used the drop box for three years with no problems. Who would have
thought that on month number 37 a problem would arise?
The problem was further compounded by not receiving a shut off notice
through the postal service.
There is no where to hang out except the bars.
RE: no truer comment could have been said. people need to grow up and
let the bars go. what does that say for you if your still 40 or 50
something and still going to bars on a weekly basis to socialize, flirt
and hook up and get your weekly entertainment. that time can be better
served spending it with your family instead.
REE: Let me guess, you get see your kid 4 days a month?
REEE: No, I have my kids everynight of the week, thank you. Let me
guess, you are one of those bimbo's who got married at a young age, had
your first kid when you were young, are now divorced and are trying to
relive your youth or time lost. You are trying to rationalize that there
is nothing wrong with time spent away from your kids so you can go hang
out in bars. You really need to take a long hard look in the mirror and
grow up. You are not 21 any more. There is alot more to life than
hanging out in bars.
Your kids probably all have issues and can get away with anything they
want because you would rather hang out at the bars pretending your still
in high school, rather than being at home teaching your kids respect,
responsibility, manners and the difference between right and wrong.
If you don't already, start going to church and take your kids with you.
Pray, pray, pray to the Lord for help!
There is no where to hang out except the bars.
RE: no truer comment could have been said. people need to grow up and
let the bars go. what does that say for you if your still 40 or 50
something and still going to bars on a weekly basis to socialize, flirt
and hook up and get your weekly entertainment. that time can be better
served spending it with your family instead.
Sounds like a comment from a bitter, stupid, divorced, unattached woman
who is still looking for that special loser from the Ellwood bar scene.
Just face it, you will be alone for the rest of your life.
:> So dear heart - where do you go for dinner after 8pm and on Sundays?
Eating this late in the evening can only lead to weight gain and health
problems. Don't be so lazy cook your man a meal!!
has stayed the same. Be it Ellwood City or America... we are a free
society... the land of opportunity... you have the right to persue
happiness... if you dont like it here, join your pioneering ancestors
and go in search of that which eludes you here!
Good point. You have the right to pursue happiness. You don't have the
right to happiness. Go pursue it.
I don't know about the "dear Heart" you are responding to, but I go to
my kitchen and cook.
Yes the kids play in yard. Most days my driveway is base!!! Don't have a
problem with it and they know the neighbors who do not want them in the
yard. If it is such a big deal to you tell the parents. The kids that
play at my house listen and respect my neighbors wishes and they know
not to run into their flower bed. I think you just need something to
complain about. Here is a thought for you October isn't far away. So you
can start thinking about complaining now for when the corning starts.
How old are you? I didn't know a child could own a house and raise
children these days?
Impressive.
Re: Oh, grow up! Is that your best defense... I think this poster is
right, you really need something to complain about.
