How about we let the softball team have the little league field and take
one of the fields at stiefel and turn it into a little league field then
what you would complain about that.
Stiefel is softball only until they make fields for boys up there quit
you complaining. How many different fields are at stiefel 3 or 4 and
lets not forget merit book is a softball field so that means there are 4
or 5 softball fields in Ellwood compared to 3 baseball fields which 7
leagues use.
8 if you count the high school team.
there are many fields but the one in the park is the only one owened by
the school baord and the girls softball team is a school sponcered sport

wrong the school board offered to fix the field for the girls by the
baseball people cryied and said the school board would have to pay to
have the grass replaced every year

I think that the police need to take the dog into the local bars. You
may be surprised at some adults who might be involved in drug use. I
would love to see this happen...everyone thinks that it is just on
Lawrence Ave and Loop Street. Someone needs to take the bull by the
horns or the dog by the leash and let the chips fall where they may. I
also think that any employee who is paid with tax dollars should be
randomly drug tested. Remember without demand there would be no
supplier.
the police does not have time for that mayor wants them doing other
things

In response to 5/31/07 #5. Please do not use the Title IX violation
excuse, unless you FULLY understand EXACTLY what it means. The girls do
have a field to play on, with ample parking. Imagine a Varsity Boys BB
game, and a Varsity Girls SB game on the same day in Ewing Park, parents
and grandparents would be parking at the tennis courts and/or swimming
pool as there is no parking at the LL Field. Then everyone will want a
parking lot built. Either way, the school board has the final say on who
plays on the fields. FYI Girls summer league, the ECABF teams will need
a place to play...Steifel Park...
you mean they would park in the pool lot and walk a block to the game,
just like they do for football games wow that would be real bad
you are right the school board makes the call and next year there will
be a new school board and one of the new members will be the father of
the girls softball coach
06/05/07 (08)
i dont think ytou understand the school board allows the ll to use the
field , the girls were only going to use it for 2 monthes the baseball
people think they own it and dont want the girls to use it

IN RE TO 06/04/07 (09)
I have a slightly different perspective on the Perry Township road issue
I totally agree with you.
If they noticed the taxes on their home were around 60 to 100 dollars
per year for Perry you should realize there is no money for your road.
It was dirt to begin with and it will remain dirt.
The majority of your taxes go to Ellwood City schools and to the County,
NOT PERRY. You will never in your lifetime pay enough to have your road
paved. Go to a meeting and learn something. you might be shocked at the
cost to pave your road.
And what about the people living on the main road of 488, they don't get
anything for their money.
If you get your road paved, I want my driveway done. I have paid taxes
for over a quarter century + and I never got anything back, so I want my
drive fixed.
Now as for the matter of the water problem on Grandview, I don't
understand why those people were even given permits to build when the
supervisors on up knew there was a water problem up there. Just because
you have property to sell does not mean they should build.

Let us get off the left turn subject at Giant Eagle and dicuss another
highway problem. How about all the idiots that go up the new highway
towards Ellwood and think they have to stay in the passing lane no
matter what speed they travel?
06/05/07 (15)
It would have not cost the ellwood school district $10,000 to tear out
the grass at Freidoff Field. Also under Title IX the entire complex
could be shutdown until the girls have the same as the boys. For those
that do not know, year in and year out the girls softball has trouble
getting permission to use stiefel park. They should be playing in Ewing
Park. It would be a great atmosphere to see the boys and girls playing
the same day, which rarely occurs.
To all those that are against girls softball if Little League was smart
that would not throw a fit like they did and let the school finally
spend money on maintaining the field.
06/05/07 (16)
6/4 #9... I agree wholeheartedly. When I bought my home in Perry
Township 10 years ago, I was perfectly aware of the state of things
here. You won't find me complaining.
However, I do agree with one statement you made.. "A dirt road with no
winter maintenance will stay a dirt road regardless of the fact you
built a $200,000 house at the far end of it."
06/05/07 (17)
I think that it is pretty silly for the 1957 Class of Lincoln High

If the school is going to take kids to the park and track on a day that
is 88 degrees and sunny, don't you think they could provide some COLD
drinks for the kids?
Was this Thursday? As I left my home Thursday morning, heading for work.
Someone was on the loudspeaker carrying on and yelling at the children
and teachers who were filing into the Stadium. It gave me a feeling of
utter kaos so your comment about them having no water for the kids
doesn't suprise me. The should contact Mr. Colao before next year, his
even was impressively organized!
06/05/07 (21)
Has anyone noticed the recent checkpoints while going to New Castle.. I
have been stopped twice on river road and it is starting to get rather
inconvenient. I stated this to officer (before you start typing in
heated comments, I understand he's just doing his job)and asked who I
might complain to. He said "Anyone you want! Do you know how many people
we caught here driving under suspension? Do you know how many people we
caught with kids that arean't in care seats??" I didn't know and frankly
I didn't care. I don't care if they catch Jack the Ripper at the
checkpoint because
1. They make you prove yourself innocent..(i.e fishing just hoping to
make some revenue off of an expired inspection sticker etc.. you must
provide license, registration and proof of insurance)
The people caught at these and DUI checkpoints should have their
convictions immediately overturned. I am reminded of 1930's Germany
every time I get this checkpoint (Papiers Bitte!)
And no.. I was not one of the people that had a citation issued and the
officer was cordial enough. I just think to sacrifice freedom to catch
someone who forgot to renew their registration is ridiculous.

Post #34, Could you please explain what point you are trying to make. I
am confused by your wording.
Thank You

The write up in the paper regarding the Drug Sweep stated there were 14
charged, but I only see 11 names listed who were arrested, who are the
other 3 and where are they?? And why is an 18 year old being held in a
juvenile facility when he just got out of Lawrence County Jail. He can
be charged as a juvenile but should not be held as one.

Response to # 14 6/4/07
You are absolutly right. Personaly I could care less waht people to
behind closed doors, however some of these bars are becoming a real
problem. These establishments are drawing the wrong crowd to Ellwood and
they're not staying in the bars. Also,
You're right if you need to be drug tested to work at Wal-Mart you
should certainly need to be tested if your job requires you to carry a
leathal weapon and/or enter peoples homes on behalf of the City, State
or Federal government.
06/05/07 (26)
I think that if you are going to post a comment on "sound off" for the
whole world to read, you should at least be able to write with proper
grammar and spelling. How can anyone take anything seriously when it
sounds like you have never made it past the third grade.

06/05/07 (30)
During the school year I have heard of numerous RHS janitors who work at
night only actually work about half as long as they are paid for, the
other half they sit around and sleep, watch tv, read, or whatever else
they please except for work. Our taxes should be spent better than
this!!! Someone needs to look into this. Thanks
06/05/07 (32)
Just an FYI to the person who criticized the ECASD Relay for Life team:
We can tell who you are by the tone of your posting. There were more
than 2 teachers at the Relay, not everyone could make it for opening
ceremonies. Through the course of the night, we had several teachers
walking, not just the ones who came to the opening ceremonies...so open
your mouth and insert your foot. And do everyone a favor...keep it
there! Regardless of the numbers we had walking, we very proudly raised
over $1500 for the Relay.

go of him at our parish but it will be a blessing for his future on the
road to his priesthood. Good luck David and may God continue to bless
you and you vocation.

Does anyone know why the fire trucks in the memorial day parade were not
allowed to blow thier sierns. My son went to the parade to hear it
(after all isn't that the point of the fire trucks being there) and when
he asked a fieman to put on the siern during the parade he tols us he
was not allowed.
Sirens & Horns were not blown out of respect to our women & men who
served & sacrificed thier life for our great country. Candy is not
thrown from the trucks due to safety issues.
06/04/07 (03)
The fire trucks do not use their sirens in a parade because if there is
an emergency, no one would realize that they are real.
06/04/07 (04)
You people don't read well about the girls softball team using the
little league field.
1. coach went to school board to use it but wanted the school board to
cough up 10,000 dollars to tear out the grass. The school board said no.
2. The School board offered to fix the baselines so that they were even
with the grass on the infield the coach said no.
3. Softball team played at Stiefel.
So they were not told no they were told they weren't going to do the
field what they wanted.
Also softball teams have used that field in the past that is why ecbaf
only lets the little league start in may and not the minor league.

Don't worry I won't. You see I talk to my child about what can happen if
you do wrong things and the fact that if I catch him he will be turned
in to the cops no ifs ands or buts. I also don't threaten my child I
make promises only ones I can keep. Unlike many kids his age he already
knows what he wants to be and is planning acordingly I guess you could
say he is an old soul or more mature than most.
06/04/07 (07)

I have a slightly different perspective on the Perry Township road issue
than most people have been expressing. Primarily, the people that are
complaining are the new ones to the township who are building new homes.
The next most frequent complainant are the older residents who live on
those same roads. These new people are saying they need new roads,
public water and public sewage. They claim their roads are inpassable.
Did they not come to the township to look at the lot before they bought
it? A dirt road with no winter maintenance will stay a dirt road
regardless of the fact you built a $200,000 house at the far end of it.
Also, have they ever considered the additional damage that was done to
the dirt roads from the trucks delivering their building supplies? It is
this damage that is making the older residents upset. These new
residents need to get off their high horse. If you buy a lot at the end
of a dirt road with no access to public services the addition of !
your mediocre house to the tax rolls will not, I repeat will not, be
enough tax money to provide you with a new road and public utilities. If
you wanted those features, you needed to purchase a lot that had them in
place.

#1. Fast pitch girls are rough. Maybe some girls want to play a sport
but keep it feminine.
#2. Everyone loves choir. It was a time to relax, sing, and have fun.

This is in response to No. 29 of 5/31. I might have missed an earlier
comment, but my thoughts are this. My daugther LOVES slow pitch. No
pressure, just fun!!! So she decided to try fast pitch. She is NOT
afraid of the ball. She's BORED STIFF!! Final scores are 1-0. How much
action is going on for those players other than pitcher or catcher.
Also, all the girls she played with on the fast pitch team critized slow
pitch. They made her feel that fast pitch was the only way to go and
that slow pitch was "stupid". They made her feel inferior to them,
wonder where they get it? She has done slow pitch tournaments for years
and enjoys those immensely. She doesn't care about statistics. She's not
after a scholarship. (how many really get them) All I know is she's not
sitting on the couch and she's not sitting on the computer. She's being
an active, happy child enjoying a sport that she loves and has a good
time with NO PRESSURE!!!
I wish you hadn't replied to his foolish post! Slow pitch softball has
been the building block for the fast pitch teams for quite a few years
now. I graduated 20 years ago, was part of Riversides first fast pitch
team. We won our section title the first year. Where do you think the
talent came from? It came from slow pitch softball. The high school fast
pitch teams of today played slow pitch too, Maybe some of them forget!
Anyone that plays both, I think it's a credit to you and your parents
that you are that dedicated to learning the sport! There is a lot more
to it than hitting a faster pitch, and a GOOD COACH knows that!

Because if a real emergency were to happen and an ambulance or police
car or a fire truck were trying to get through, they couldn't be
distinguished from those in the parade blowing their sirens. And before
you say when has that happened, it has happened on more than one
occasion. Most parades do not permit blowing of sirens anymore because
of that. If your son wants to here the siren on a truck, take him to the
fire department and I'm sure they will do it for him.

As a matter of fact, every sport you named there, minus soccer, "wins",
whether it's one time during their season, or every time. Also, we often
broke records in track. Tell me, where would we put a softball field in
that complex?
06/04/07 (21)
All this talk about people making left turns into Giant Eagle is
sooooooooo stupid!!!!! The whole thing in a nut shell, is that people
only think of themselves, and no one else. So what if, people want to
turn in there, that's what the entrance is there for, besides, I would
rather take my chances on turning left into there than to go all the way
through the parking lot which is more of a death trap, people fly
through there, you take your life in your hands.Next thing you people
will want is a sign stating NO LEFT TURNS!!!!!
06/04/07 (22)
The last I heard choir was an elective course in high school. If you
thnk it is a waste of your child's time, have him/her choose another
elective. Many kids enjoy participating in the choir, not because they
expect to "make it big", but simply because they enjoy singing in those
twice-per-year concerts. To each is own.
06/04/07 (23)
There is a problem on sixth street. It seems that many Ellwood residents
consider it a race track. This is a real problem as children walk
across, ride bikes and play near the street. Ellwood City was kind
enough to put up a watch children sign, however I fear that it isn't
doing much good. It would seem that no one cares if they mash a child as
long as they can get where they're going three seconds faster. Every
time I see some moron speeding up sixth street I feel like throwing a
brick through their windshield. I've only lived there 3 years and I've
already seen several accidents...Obviously these people cannot control
their vehicles as well as they think!!!!!!! It's only a matter of time
before some one runs over a child. In my opinion there either needs to
be a speed trap or they need to put Stop Signs on the corner of Sixth
and Wayne to slow traffic down. I know that this is a problem in other
neighborhoods also...Sound off.
06/04/07 (24)
I'm sure everyone will agree FINALLY some drug busts - I only hope that
these SAME people get some years in the state pen instead of a slap on
the wrist and out again to sell. It's the same repeat offenders -
congrats to the ECP Department - good job! KEEP IT UP...I feel sorry for
the parents of these people - not a picture you like to see in the local
paper

The reason the firetrucks do not use their sirens in the Memorial Day
parade is because it is a "silent" parade in order for them to show
their respect for the men and women who served their country in the
armed services. This is the only parade where they do not use the sirens
or horns and it has been that way for years.

Is there anyone else out there who thinks that the class sponsor for the
Lincoln High class of 1957 should be invited to the 50th class reunion.
What could he have done to justify not bring invited to the last 4 or 5
reunions. Whatever it was, it has now been 20 or 25 years that the
organizers have excluded him. This seems like some very petty people
calling the shots. Don't you think that the 50th reunion would be a good
time to kiss and make up?????????

don't care anymore!
NOT fair, with the crime rates increasing, if you have issues, why are
you not addressing them? District Attorney Bongivengo along with many
others have attempted many community issues, has anyone considered , the
fact Lawrence County???
The crimes that are increasing are the ones UNREPORTED!

I have a daughter on the girl's softball team, and I think this is
really ashame. First off, if it is the school districts property, then I
don't see how anyone can say the girls can't play there.
However, if people affiliated with the boys teams (parents, coaches,
players, etc.) did put all of the work into fixing the field, then
really people affiliated with the softball team have a moral obligation
to help maintain or improve the quality of the field if they want to
play there as well.
What really throws me is that instead of just putting in the work like
they did and fixing up the fields Ellwood has already provided for the
girls, everyone wants to take over the one that is nicer. I do not know
a lot about how Steifel park is maintained as this is my daughter's
first year, but I would gladly pitch in to make it better for the girls.

well i have no kids involved but after hearing your argument as to why
the girls cant use the field i have decided to approach the school board
and want to know why a high school sponcered sport cant use school
property while the LL can even if they condone the use of alchohol on
school property
Do you realize you start every sentence with "well"? While you are
asking about the alcohol, could you mention the dogs too? I don't much
care for dogs, and some really bark loud, hey thanks, I owe you one.

God saw you getting tired
When a cure was not to be.
So he closed his arms around you,
and whispered,
Come to me.
You didn't deserve,
What you went through,
and so He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.

agggaaaaiiinnn ...
boys football - nice stadium in the park
boys baseball - nice stadium in the park
girls softball- feild hidden on the opposite side of town
track and soccer co-ed sports - nice stadium inthe park
tennis - in the park
Actually, the boys baseball field is way over-used. It is used by the
baseball team in the spring, by Pony, Colt, Legion, and County in
summer, and the outfield is used by football in the fall. With this much
use, the field is in need of a new infied. BAD.

I just wanted to comment on the bomb threat saturday night near the 5th
street bridge. As some of you may,or may not have heard there have been
multible Hoaxes reported in the Slippery Rock Twp area in the past month
including Accidents, a fire,a person falling into the slippery rock
creek and most recently the escaped tigers from the Living Treasures on
Rt.422. It may or may not be connected, but I hope they catch this person
or persons soon. I just wanted peoples thoughts and comments.

RE: 05/31/07 (26)
You honestly think that because I recieved governmental loans and grants
to attend at 40,000$ a year college for my philosophy BA, and because I
am getting another chunk of loans to attend culinary school in Chicago
this summer that I am ruining this country? Seriously? Just because my
school was very demanding, five courses requiring ten page papers each
every week, plus 20 hours a week working at the student newspaper, thus
not being able to work full time on top of that and independently be
able to finance my own education, I am RUINING this country? How utterly
ridiculous.
06/04/07 (45)

The students treat the class as if it were a social gathering! Many
talented students have been in choir but really...How many of them has
made it BIG??? Not semi-big...BIG!???? All students are so much better
off to take an extra Science, English or Math class. Choir is an
elective and benefits only a very small percentage of the student body.
being in choir isnt about making it big !!! what if these girls or boys
just like it ? truthfully when you talk to the vast majority of kids
that have made it successfully in the world today they will tell you
that they beat their brains out in highschool over nothing.

RE: 5/31/07 #27 Sounds like you only care about yourself and are putting
your kids second to your imaturity. You and your friends need to get a
life. There is more to life than hanging out at bars to socialize and
drink. Are you going through a mid life crisis? Maybe you should spend
more time at home with your kids. You also might want to try going to
church to socialize. Sounds like you could use some churching up to get
your priorities straight.

Does anyone know why the fire trucks in the memorial day parade were not
allowed to blow thier sierns. My son went to the parade to hear it
(after all isn't that the point of the fire trucks being there) and when
he asked a fieman to put on the siern during the parade he tols us he
was not allowed.

People, people, people, there will always be silliness in this world. As
one of the more intellegent beings on this planet, I say we must beware
of the ones who insist on making a left turn into Giant Eagle. They may
be the same ones who are drinking in the park. We will just have to make
allowances for these kinds of people. Sad, but true. Ohhh well life goes
on......
Ohhh I love this post, Wish I had posted it!

When you approach the School board with your issue, please speak your
concerns as your spelling will only cause them to laugh and you will not
be taken seriously. Just trying to help :)
For what it's worth, Ellwood City Youth Baseball paid for the Lights
around the field, they got the scoreboard, they put in the fense, the
warning track, the infield, even bought the grass, built the dugouts,
the press box, and the consession stand, what did you say the girls
contributed?? Yeah I didn't think you had a reply for that! BTW the
girls team did try a hostile takeover by removing the pitchers mound,
but that has been corrected and the games are continuing as scheduled.
I'll tell you what, you are more than welcome to come to the field and
police it for everyone. I think my son still has his deputy sticker, you
can wear it while you patrol!

So being a child psychologist You think that is the only way kids can
learn to drink responsibly. What about teaching them that they are
responsible for their own actions abd their will be consequences for
everything they do. Not everyone drinks some people can't because of
medical reasons are you saying that they aren't
responsible and that their kids are going to sneak off and drink because
thats the way it sounds.
For the person that says they live in the park and drink there ok but on
your own property I think you misunderstood what people are talking
about they are talking about the little league field which belongs to
the school not you.
Nice try. As you said about the person misunderstanding, I believe you
either didn't understand what I had written or you just froth at the
mouth looking for an issue to jump on. Do you even know the statisics
for underage drinking? I doubt you do or your post would have read
differently. A parent drinking or not drinking has no bearing on what
their child experiments with. By teaching our children, either through
conversation or example that drinking alcohol isn't as "cool" or
"defiant" as it seems, and, by example or conversation they will learn
that it should be done in moderation, this could save not only their
life, but maybe yours as well. THERE! I believe I thoroughly covered it
now, but I'm almost positive you wont be satisfied with this reply
either. I hope you don't learn I am right the hard way.

CORPORATE GREED
4:35 PM UPDATE: Channel 11 has learned six men are in the custody of
immigration officials and face possible deportation.
12:05 PM UDPATE: One of the men told Channel 11's Jodine Costanzo that
they were doing work for Verizon. A Verizon representative said they are
looking into the matter. Company officials want to find out who the
subcontractor was. Verizon said they hired subcontractors to install the
plastic conduit underground and then Verizon employees insert the phone
lines.
Incredibly stupid all the way around. Verizon should know better. First
of all, they don't know who they sub-contract too?
Second, they let any idiot drive a truck towing a trailer with rope? An
illegal immigrant at that.
Recent history, should spell it out to Verizon, that innocent people get
killed when basic rules are not followed for hauling equipment.
Corporate Greed Indeed.

RE: 05/31/07 (06) I think it’s great that Perry Twp. is working on the
roads. But don't you think the smart thing to do would be to do the
roads that have the pot holes. There fixing roads that don't need it and
in the mean time our car's are falling apart on roads that are not fit
for cattle. And please learn that you don't use cold patch to fix a pot
hole. Maybe some classes are needed on road work. The work your doing
just isn't cutting it.
You can please the most residents by paving roads in the most populated
areas. in my opinion, It’s a political tactic that is very effective in
this area. If you can gain favoritism of the majority they will let the
minority sink. It’s an excellent way to gain votes.

The Memorial Day Parade was wonderful - congrats to all who made it

slowpitch is more relaxing and not all cut and throat like fastpitch.
Alot of those girls are not
fastpitch players( nothing againgst them) they just want to go have some
fun and not all about winning ect. For the girls that are not very
athletic it is a good sport to learn team work , make friends and have
fun plus many more ...... So just leave them alone and let them have
fun.

You people who are arguing in favor of drinking alcohol at baseball
games - what is wrong with you? Can't you go a couple hours without
beer? That's ridiculous. By the way, if it is a law that there is to be
no beer in Ewing Park or on school property - then it isn't up for
discussion. Just keep your drunken butt at home if you MUST drink.
Pathetic.

and NEVER have I seen or heard anyone drinking alcohol, but I have been

The softball field issue was that the coach of the high school team
wanted the girls to use the Little league field. Because the boys have
big field. Which wasn't a problem until he wanted to ruin it. He wanted
to take out all of the grass in the infield and the pitchers mound. The
school board said no.
the school does own the baseball fields and the football field. Where
have you been that you don't know this. Thats why when the new stadium
went up it was thru the school not the city. The only work that the
schoool didn't pay for was the improvements to the little league field
that was done by the ECABF.
well the ecabf may have done all the work and paid for the inprovements
but the school does not provide the girls with a field this is a TITLE
IX VIOLATION

There were two senior Ellwood City boys pulled over on Saturday for
underage drinking. I am just wondering why this has not been in the

Hi, im a local student at RHS and a coach of mine told me that his
grandfather used to tell him a story about when the KKK came to Ellwood
(i'm not sure of the date) but they would burn crosses up on a hill on
the Northside on the way towards wampum you'd make a right and go up
some gravel road there's a graveyard up there I guess? One time though
some people of EC went up there and ended up killing
some of the members of the KKK. Is there any truth behind this story?
I'm very curious.

IF YOU ARE A PARENT WHO THINKS YOUR DAUGHTER IS THEEEE BEST SLOW PITCH
SOFTBALL PLAYER PLEASE CONSIDER THESE FACTS ...HOWEVER, Please dont get
me wrong slowpitch is good for our children to learn the basics ...
You can varify these facts on www.eteamz.com:
In the United States, slowpitch softball tournaments occur in 17 states
and no canadian providences publicizing tournaments. In the United
States, fastpitch softball tournaments occur in all 50, as well as, 6
Canadian providences
In Pennsylvannia, there are 2 slow pitch tournaments listed on this
site. For fastpitch there are at least 95 in one age bracket.
In Ohio, there are also 2 slow pitch tournaments listen on this site.
For fastpitch there are at least 110 teams for one age bracket.
These are facts from experience:
Usually each slowpitch tournament each age bracket has anywhere from 4
to 8 teams depending on age. Usually in fastpitch tournaments each age
bracket has 12-25 teams depending on age and tournament with the
Nationals sometimes having over 100 teams in one age bracket.
At each slow pitch tournament unless you travel far, you play the same
team at every tournament. At each fastpitch tournament if you stay local
or travel across country you more than likely only played 1 out of every
3 teams if your lucky.
In our area including butler and plum there are about 4 but i stretch
and say 6 slow pitch teams left. In our area there are about 30
fastpitch teams (not including highschool teams)
Most colleges:
Play FASTPITCH not SLOWPITCH
Facts about Ellwood City:
In Ellwood City, about 15 girls from each age bracket play fastpitch
softball. In Ellwood City, about 80 girls from each age bracket play
slowpitch softball.
In Ellwood City, men ranging from 20-50 play slow pitch softball ... the
same sport your 12 year old daughter plays - ha. slow pitch must be
challanging, but then again maybe the men just age well ;-)
How many girls do you know that play slowpitch softball hit the ball
over the fence, and not the sideline fence? few? ... In fastpitch games
it is not unnormal for one or two to hit the ball out in a game!
Facts about girl trying fastpitch:
Most girls are scared because the ball travels fast when hitting - you
get used to it
Most slowpitch girls who try fastpitch quit for two reasons
1. they are scared
2. they are not the star on the team because all the girls who are
willing to be aggressive and competitive have moved onto fastpitch
Another sad fact about Ellwood City VS. Riverside:
Riverside is moving on from slowpitch to fastpitch. Ellwood is still
playing slowpitch.
.. Consider these fact when you sign your child up for slowpitch next
year.

alcohol is not allowed on school property. I would like to see school

NO! I am one of the people who didn't want the girls softball team
playing on the Little League Field. That is My money, and my energies,
along with quite a few other parents, that went into making it the
beautiful field you now see. You think just because someone else made it
so nice, the girls should take it over? Sorry! You have a field, a
really nice field, if you get the parents together and put as much work
into it as we did the Little League field, you will have a nice place to
play too. A lot of us care to much to just hand over our hard work! As
for the drinkers, they are just like the people who bring their dogs,
until they cause a problem, they are welcome.
oh so not only do you think you own the field because you put work and
money into it you condone breaking the law
If that is your impression then that is fine with me. As for me
condoning others breaking the law, who the heck am I to judge or
persecute them? I am not a police officer and they obviously aren't
drawing attention to themselves. I am at the field almost every night
and NEVER have I seen or heard anyone drinking alcohol, but I have been
chased and barked at by peoples dogs.

"Kudos" to the Memorial Day Parade Committee, what a nice parade!!We owe
the pleasures, rights and joys that we have to our Veterans, "Thank you
Gentlemen for your service to your country". It was also nice to see our
new Chief in the parade and actually walking in the parade and greeting
Ellwoodians. The Chief has made a difference in his short tenure!! He is
a peoples Chief....... and has the community's best interest at heart
(which is refreshing) I wish him all the best. And "WELCOME TO ELLWOOD
CITY CHIEF" ........."God Bless Our Troops and Our Veterans"

what a great Memorial Day Parade the people put together in such a short
time, the community coming out to watch the parade was awesome...there
were people from the bridge all the way threw the parade...congratultions
to the new police chief i hope council will work with you and let you
to do your job the way it should be done...and to officer mcbride and
Josek what an awsome dog and handler, you put in alot of hours training
together and from what i saw it really paid off. My son really enjoyed
petting him and not being afraid. poor thing looked beat tho after the
parade... it was nice to see all 3 of you walking the parade

Why was my comment about the choir department "not teaching" on a daily
basis omitted from your column? Maybe, it was toooooo "Rosie O'Donell"
opinionated. Okay, I'll try again...

To the beer drinkers... I feel that you are right you should be able to
have a drink if you want to and relax... But here is the thing I am
concerned about, you then after having those few beers drive your son
home from the ballpark... Responsible???? I don't think so!! Have you
ever lost someone close to you to because the drive in the other car had
a few beers and was under the influence?? Well let me tell you it's not
fair! Just because someone else wants to be likes to relax with a few
beers... They do effect everyone else when they tend to drive after
those few beers.. So go ahead and have your beers just leave your keys
with a friend and have them drive your son home!

Having a degree in child psychology, I believe it can be benificial for
a child to see their parent/s drink responsibly. When you are open about
such things, it takes away some of the thrill of sneaking and by
witnessing someone they love and admire, they will learn drinking is
something they can choose or not choose for themselves, and by seeing it
done responsibly they will be less likely to abuse alcohol or drink and
drive.

I don't know what world you live in, but as 5/25/07 (43) stated
regarding the accident rate at the plaza entrance, I'd like to comment.
My husband hae been a volunteer fireman in Franklin Township since he
was a teenager, and I can state for a fact that the firemen get at least
5-10 calls a year for accidents at the entrance. Just because you don't
see them in the paper doesn't mean they aren't happening. The setup at
the plaza was poorly planned and I don't see it getting any better.
Right now the trees are so thick looking up Route 288 toward Zelie that
one can't see the cars coming down the hill. That combined with the
people who have to fly up the right lane and cut off cars in the left
lane (going toward Zelie) just to slam on their brakes and turn left
into the plaza only compound the problem.
I thank you for your post! I was unfortunate enough to be in an accident
in that area. All three in my vehicle, and four people from the other
car went to the hospital, two via ambulance. I know several people who
have also been in accidents at the same intersection, all went to the
hospital. I don't know why people insist on arguing a point when they
haven't the education to back their agrument!

To the comments on the 288 traffic situation or whatever you feel the
problem is. I agree that if you are going straight past Giant Eagle
please stay in the left lane. But I do understand if there is a lot of
traffic it is hard to move to the left lane. As for the police patroling
that area I have seen them pull cars over for speeding. You need to
realize that the township only has one officer on duty during an 8 hour
shift and he may be tied up on other calls during the "rush" hour. Also,
if you have an issue getting behind a truck traveling 288 find an
alternate route. I travel that road 3 or 4 days a week and guess what I
get behind the trucks but don't complain. Patience is a virtue. It is
the people that are in such a hurry to pass cars and trucks on 288
(which is a no passing zone) that cause problems and/or accidents. If we
all just take our time driving and not racing to get around the trucks
before we drive up Stamm's hill there will be no cause for alarm or !
accidents.

that can read, and care about others lives, it was mearly a suggestion

Reread your post sounds like you are trying to cause more accidents, also

Turning left into Giant Eagle - It is ~ALWAYS~ the responsibility of the
DRIVER to travel a safe distance behind all motorists! All along route
65 is a prime example of how a left turn into a driveway can be fatal!
Yes, left hand turns cause many accidents. Who's fault is it? The person
who "making the left" or the person following closely behind who "failed
to stop" for the person who was making the left? Doesn't take a rocket
scientist to come up with the correct answer now does it?

I by no means meant to inflict insult to the moderator with my comment
on the police reports. I just really want to see them. They aren't

As for the web page, I too think it is great and am seeing a lot of

What in the world is the mystery picture this week?
05/25/07 (04)
Hey, what kind of metric crescent wrench are you looking for, a right
handed or left handed?
05/25/07 (05)
To #22 of Riverside School District, how insulting can you be? Evidently
you think it is okay for people without children to pay school taxes,
but you want them to stay home and keep their mouth shut on how taxes
are spent. Wrong! The winners in the primary for Riverside School Board
are good people who are concerned about their children and grandchildren
receiving the best education at a fair cost. They do not intend to cut
out programs as some teachers and parents alledgedly have lied about.
However, they will be watching how money is spent. Teachers are paid
very well in Riverside and pay $12.00 per month towards their health
insurance and work all of 180 days a year. Yes they pay more towards
co-payments and have a higher deductible than before but, with the small
amount paid now they are still on the gravy train, as many taxpayers
including seniors pay much more for health coverage.(just Medicare
Approx. $100.00 per month) Teachers have every holiday off, a Christmas!
vacation, a spring vacation, snow days and the summer off. I think it is
time the taxpayers have someone looking out for them. Your children do
not need turf to play football. The teachers do not need a school board
made up of spouses and close relatives of employees of the school
district, or a teacher from another school district. The children will
not suffer without this.
As for insulting comments about age, I only hope that you eat those
words someday and you will. Selfish, is truly what you displayed in your
comments and I hope your children do not follow in your footsteps, as it
just might be their or their friends grandparents that will lose their
home to the unbearable taxes you helped create. You are the reason this
community is so divided, pitting those who can't afford anymore against
those who act like spoiled brats and will never be satisfied, till
everyone loses their home. If you really want the best for your children
please make a contribution to Riverside, making sure it is a large
contribution and maybe your buddies and teacher friends will do the
same. Remember it is for all the children so don't be cheap. At least
the seniors won't have to work when they are 100 years old. By the way
Grzelka has children in school and so does Blumberg who lost by about 4
votes. For you teachers out there who alledgedly, made phone calls abo!
ut opponent candidates please tell the truth it will set a good example
for the children. You knew there was no plan to cut the Arts, Sports
Programs or Janitors. So why create that lie? Please stop pretending it
is about the concern for the children when it is about teacher's
pocketbooks and arrogant yuppies.

I'm glad to hear that the DEP requires an acre lot for both a private
Water Well and a septic system. Now as for the Water Wells, the last I
knew they were required to be 100 ft. from the septic Systems. That may
be all the jurdisdiction the SEO has in the matter, And therfore Two
different Water Wells could be 30 ft. apart. But I personally wouldn't
want that for myself.
What about septic systems? Don't they drain down hill? A new house is
going up in the Twp. Won't it run in the house if it leaks?

What school are you talking about?

Drinking has been going on for years at baseball and football
games...where have you been. Most parents get hammered even before the
game starts. I am sure that the people who cannot go for 2 hrs without a
drink act the same way at home and their kids probably drink too. Maybe
its the only way they can get through the game.

The new Chief will be a great influence for the area, GLAD to see
Officer Michael McBribe walking with the dog, he I thought would be the
right officer for this position and he is. They both seem to be very
effective! Everyone should be thanking the officals for the updating of
our operations, and finally agreeing these moves are for the community,
and long... overdue!

Hey! dk Welcome back did you get selected for the New York intership???

Thought of the day:
Did you ever want french fries SO BAD, you put them on the stove and
then go to bed and burn your house down? This is something that should
carry the ad "DO NOT TRY AT HOME" go to McDonald's it's easier and alot
safer, not to add cheaper. All kidding side that was terrible what
happened in New Castle with his stove & french fries.

rights to the blueprint layout. Really cool, try it out the drinks and
the food is good and the service you can not get enough.

Could you please post the web site for child predators in the area. I
know it was on this site sometime ago but I lost it. Thank you.

Doesn't seem right that the "anonymous monitor" can say anything they
want, but you pick and choose what/or what you want the public to know.
Everyone should quit posting on sound off until it is fairly posted.
Obviously, some people are related to you or you would/should post it.
Why did you choose to be the monitor if you couldn't be FAIR??
I have no relatives in town.

I just wanted to show some appreciation.
My mom passed on 9 years ago this week, and after the fact, later on
that summer, I realized how poorly the cemetary was kept. I was so
upset, I would have never allowed my mom to have been buried there had I
known this in advance.
But now the place is being so well kept. I'm assuming that the
caretakers job has changed hands, and they are doing a wonderful job.
I would like to extend a thank you and a job well done to the person(s)
in charge of caretaking at the Wurtemburg Cemetary. Keep up the great
work, people notice and appreciate it more than you know!

Regarding the debate over which is the correct lane to be in near the
Giant Eagle plaza, you all need to re-read the original post. You're all
traveling in the opposite direction. And I agree that heading EAST, if
you are in the right lane, turn on Shadyrest Road and don't go straight
towards Zelie, etc.
original post:
"05/16/07 (26)
Look, if you are driving along RT 288 from Zelie to Ellwood City area "
The poster was heading WEST on 288... and states that when you get to
the light at Mercer Rd., if you are in the right lane, make a right onto
Mercer Rd. and don't go straight TOWARD Ellwood.
So I ask again, what is the reasoning here??

Moderator, as for the drinking being done at these Little League games,
please clarify the venue that this is happening at, Ellport or Ewing
Park. I believe that those reading this, or those involved with the
program, need to be informed. Thank you.

monitor?

well, they are published for all to read so I
guess not.

Taxes are going up, teachers are getting cut.
When will the parents in Ellwood wake up?
It looks like your fight two years ago to keep things the way they are
is really working. But, hey, your kids still all go to the same school
and you are not inconvienced.
Wake up before it is too late. Do you want your school district to be
distressed. That is what they have announced is coming and unless the
public starts to try and help and show up at the budget meetings and try
to come to a middle ground it is unavoidable. I hope you will stop bei | | |
