Could anyone tell me where I can have a dress professionally dyed? It's
white and I would like to have it dyed a different color. Thanks!
Also - does anyone have any unwanted wedding decorations or likewise?
Please let me know and I will get in touch with you somehow. Thank you!

This guy actually complained last year when they played the National
Anthem at the little league world series, I talked to the Police Officer
that answered the call

My apologies to you. Per his request,
the posts were removed. It was not because he is an acquaintance. I am
simply honoring the request which is standard protocol. Additionally,
he has requested that you contact him directly vs. on this public forum

How long can you let a dumpster set in the street in Ellwood City?
Months? Years? Aren't there laws on this sort of thing. Why aren't they
enforced?

Moving to Ellwood City...
Bunch of hypocrites!!! You make fun of someone who is asking for upscal
areas, say that Ellwood City doesn't have anything... Yet, when someone
states there are no real opportunities in EC to make a GOOD SOLID
living, you jump all over them! Everyone has just proved my point!!!!!!!
They were explaining to you that Ellwood isn't a "Gated" type community.
What a lonely and miserable person you must be! No wonder you're single!
04/13/07 (10)
To the person living by the ball field, did you not know this has been
going on for years..Or would you rather have the kids be hangin out on
main street with nothing elase to do so you could complain about that??
Get a life!
04/13/07 (11)
Instead of the same people b------- about the same things over and over
in Perry Township
why don't you do something constructive and help get grants for the area
or help the planning committee to get ordinances to protect the tax
payers.
Month after month it is the same harping over and over.
Get out of other peoples a----and help out.
You that have nothing good to say are the fuel in the fire.
04/13/07 (12)
but seriously... this is part of the price you pay for living in, near
or around the park.
May I suggest a lovely home elsewhere?
When I first moved into Ewing Park someone told me that I should expect,
no coulds or maybes about it, I should expect people to drive through my
yard. This didn't sit well with me so when summer arrived I was perched
on my porch ready to do battle with all the people who deemed it
acceptable to drive through my lawn. Only two people were rude enough to
actually drive up on my lawn. They haven't done it since! I have found
for the most part, the parents of the youth Baseball program are
respectful and polite.

Dori was the
only supervisor NOT PRESENT at the township meeting!Whats wrong?,don't
want to face the public?
04/13/07 (15)
I personally think they are doing an incrediable job as
supervisors.
04/13/07 (16)
RE: 04/12/07 (03)
The Ellwood City Ledger, Tuesday, April 10, page A2:
State police filed a harassment charge against .... accuse her of telephoning Dori McElwain.....
Perry Township, and leaving harassing messages.
04/13/07 (17)
To the person complaining about traffic at Walnut Ridge...do you realize
this only happens when the weather is bad and us as parents are
concerned about our children walking home in the rain, extreme cold, and
snow. Most of the students at Walnut Ridge are either picked up every
day or walk if they live close enough. They get out of school at 3:00
every day so maybe if you are in that big of a hurry to get home you
could plan on getting there a little earlier or waiting until 3:15 when
every one is gone. If you lived in the area for any length of time you
would already have known this happened in bad weather!!!
04/13/07 (18)
So lets see now...Dori McElwain is a township supervisor who files
lawsuits against someone who "harrasses" her, disconnects her home phone
so now no one can contact her to complain (harrass) to her about road or
township issues and doesn't even show up for the regular township
meeting to face the public. Dealing with residents who have complaints are a part of
the job of a supervisor and in my opinion, the harrassment suits are an unfair action
on her part. Residents have the right to contact her when there is a
problem. No other past supervisor disconnected their phone so they
couldn't be contacted. We have one road crew person left in the township
to boot...why isn't she out there working with him to get the road work
done? At least the Stafford boys would
go out and cold patch and find work to do on the roads even if they were
the only ones working.
04/13/07 (19)
4/11/07 (21) Three supervisors working in "complete harmony" is one
supervisor doing all the thinking and two saying "aye." If we wanted
that why elect three? I want three thinking supervisors.
As I read this comment about Perry Twp I realized this philosophy of
three thinking supervisors operating with the lack of harmony sounded
familiar. At first, I couldn’t put my finger on it, but then it dawned
on me, this is the way Perry Twp has been run for the past few years?

hi , awhile ago. someone had written in asking about the humming noise

RE:04/09/07 (01)The fire department is not in jeopardy. It is volunteer
and separate of the local government.
Fortunately the Perry/Wurtemburg volunteer fireman work hard in raising
the funding to run the fire dep’t but it is not separate from the local
government. It must be sanctioned by the supervisors and the Twp
provides the liability insurance and fuel for it to operate. They have
the ability to jeopardize the operation of the fire dep’t. Everything
that happens in the Twp is under the supervisor’s jurisdiction.
04/13/07 (24)
04/11/07 (20) Well, I read in the paper that Dori McElwain has filed
harassment charges against another Perry Twp. resident. I find it odd
that she's always the "victim."
She may very well be a victim of circumstance. Mrs. McElwain has used
her position as supervisor as a vehicle for retribution and at least in
one case has caused a lawsuit to be file against the Twp. It seems this
may be coming back to haunt her. Placing herself in this position will
continue to cause problems for Perry and will hinder her ability to be
effective as an elected official.
04/13/07 (25)
To the person looking for an "upscale"area with a gated community. How
very sad this person is. My mother would always say "they must not have
received enough cake!" Meaning that their self-esteem, value & purpose
in life is only recongnized by their possessions. Donate your time to
homeless or our senior citizens instead of putting on "airs" Life is too
short!
04/13/07 (26)
wow whoever is complaining about the baseball music needs to get a life
or move outta this city bc i dnt think anyone wants you here and this is
comin from a 17 yr old kid that plays baseball.....get a life man and
enjoy that ellwood even has activitys like baseball and stuff like
that....the music gets me pumped up man....get back at me whoever is
wining boutt the music
04/13/07 (27)
Does franklin township have any supervisors who care? I have lived in
this township for many years and have experienced very little concern
from these elected officials. My problem is the residents who are
permitted to create junk yards in their front yards and continue to get
away with it. Who can help me protect the value of my property and my
neighborhood? Also has anyone driven down any of the township roads and
have witnessed the amount of litter strewn around? SHAME, SHAME, SHAME
on our elected officiers who do not care about this beautiful township,
but they won our votes and do little to earn their dues.
04/13/07 (28)
I have one thing to say to the people who have expressed their thoughts
about the coommunity that we live in. THANKS alot for discouraging
people from moving here. Did anyone think that this was a business
person who may have wanted to bring growth and progress to our
community? Instead you all continue to be negative. Does anyone have any
positive energy these days?
04/13/07 (29)
Do you all think Don Imus would be a good editor for this forum?
04/13/07 (30)
Please update me on the person or persons who got sick at a local
establishment I must have overlooked this comment.
04/13/07 (31)
Say what you all want about this community. I know many of people who
love this place and have moved away and miss this little town. I hope I
live long enough to see our town blossom again. I have had a nice life
here and have accumulated many assets from saving the money that I
earned here. There is still hope for our young generation in this quaint
little town I call home.
04/13/07 (32)
If by the "humming" noise in Ellport, you mean that high pitched noise
that sounds like some sort of wheel turning that needs greased, then I
was the one who mentioned that last summer...

Im very upset with my mail service its all junk mail
Why is it the US Postal Service's fault that you've gotten yourself on
mailing lists for this kind of stuff? Would you rather they went through
your mail for you and only delivered what they thought was important?
04/12/07 (02)
04/11/07 (16) "A Twp manager for Perry Twp doesn't sound like such a bad
idea compared to what has happened recently, it would have offered some
guidance and stability."
Here they come again! The same old nonsense. We have a good team of
supervisors right now, except for that one that has been there too long.
04/12/07 (03)
04/11/07 (20) "Well, I read in the paper that Dori McElwain has filed

that she's always the 'victim.'"
Okay, let's take up your topic. Against who and what was the harassment?

with your chronic whining who would want to.
04/12/07 (07)
It's great to see my post about the police and shoplifting was not
posted. Why does this site say to submit concerns, but then will not
post them?
04/12/07 (08)
In response to the person complaining about the high school baseball
organization playing music at their games, it has been done in the past
- not just with the "new" coach. The sound level is not nearly as loud
as football games, 4th of July festival, or the Relay for Life that
continues to play music all through the night. They do not play music
continuously, just in between innings. The decible level is well under
the legal level.
As to the comments made about postal employees earning too much and not
working enough. Do you realize the amount of work they do each day? Of
course not. Most are at work before 6:30 a.m. and not home until after
6:00 p.m. They also have to contend with people not clearing their walks
of snow and ice, unruly dogs, working through all types of weather, etc.
As for the postage stamp increase - the employees are not the cause of
that.

re: 4/11 (11) I'll be moving out of Ellwood soon to the North Hills
suburbs...
Do you mean the NH suburbs of Pittsburgh or New Castle?? If Pittsburgh,
you're in luck!! Shaler, Ross, Hampton, McCandless, West Deer, and EVEN
Pine-Richland offer the same ammenities. Only difference is the PEOPLE
who reside there are not nearly as friendly and these communities are
not even remotely as family-oriented as Ellwood. And the crime-rate is
worse. So you go right on and enjoy your new community!! Don't forget:
the grass is always greener on the other side.
04/12/07 (11)
In our small community we have two softball teams that are both
undefeated at this point in their seasons. This has always been a very
good game when they play each other. So, why has Riverside canceled the
game with Ellwood for a second year in a row? In the Ledger there is an
article that asks, "Can anyone get Falk out at the plate?” My opinion is
that Riverside does not want to play Ellwood because they would not have
that BIG "0" in their loss column. It's too bad that they have to take
this long time rivalry out of our community. Along with this rivalry you
make a lot of friends from the opposite school. Since they will not be
playing this year it would be something to consider for next year!!!!
04/12/07 (12)
re: (4/11) Im very upset with my mail service its all junk mail.
Oh, and that's the U.S. Post Office's fault?? Yes, I'm sure the Post
Office generates all of your junk mail so they have more to deliver AND
they can aggravate you at the same time. You are too funny.
04/12/07 (13)
Great Job E.C.girls softball team!!Ranked #1. Best team in the area too
bad Riverside won't play you!
04/12/07 (14)
The baseball team has played music in the past! Its not like it lasts
very long, lighten up and let the kids have some good clean fun!!!!

now let me address ec baseball they want to play music near my home in
the park .baseball has never in the past played music during the games
but young new coach, crazy ideas ,I guess .what if i go to his residence
and play music at the same volume level for hours at a time . don't
think your family would appreciate it or your neighbors .let's do a test
gather the data and go to your house and try it out for lets say 3 weeks
straight and see .
my gosh could you please respect us as a neighbor and my young children
and the community at hand and please just think for a minute .
You have got to be a new resident of Ewing Park. The baseball team has
always played music, ALWAYS! It isn't for long and it's only done to
help fire up the players. If this drives you out of your mind, just wait
till the little wolverines start.
04/12/07 (16)
The lot at the end of the Fifth Street bridge, Is this lot for selling
automobiles only? I was wondering if I could put an old washer and dryer
I am wanting to sale next to one of the cars? I know that's ridiculous
but in my opinion, so are the for sale cars!
04/12/07 (17)
Walnut Ridge Area - I don't live near that area, but have driven through
several times, - I notice there is only ONE WAY IN AND OUT of the whole
area.
For as many homes that are in that area, I would think whoever is in
charge of putting in roads in Ellwood, would find another way to drive
in or out. Heaven forbid if a catastrophe would happen, stranding
hundreds of people unable to leave. It should have been done years ago.

Didnt you realize that when you bought your home in this particular

active SPORTS complex??? Maybe you havent lived there long enough to
realize that they also play music at the Little Wolverine games as
well... are you going to complain then too?!

This comment may not sound nice but it's only my opinion, why did
council hire an outsider? From what we have heard he was very well ready
& impressing, but we thought he had to be an active officier? If I'm
wrong on that I may have been misinformed but the paper stated from '99
til '05 How can he go into the posiotion without the Pa. testing and the
120 act we've heard about? Is it really true that the solicitor had this
done so we could hire to lower overtime? Maybe I have been told wrong
but please post this I would really like to know the truth and this site
does have alot of information for us to learn from . Something else that
has been mentioned was we would be losing officers because of this, we
pray not those men do a good job. I'm a widow and I do not normally go
to sleep until I see them go down the street. God Bless you all for
protecting we senior citizens, it does make a difference. Thank you for
the care the officers show us.

Well, I read in the paper that Dori McElwain has filed harassment
charges against another Perry Twp. resident. I find it odd that she's
always the "victim."
Why is her phone disconnected?
04/12/07 (25)
Guess you never had to take the postal test. They have to know all the
addreses and zip codes. The mail men only deliver the mail they don't
make the mail to be delivered. How are they to blame for junk mail. Try
being a mail man for a day you wouldn't last.
Why do you compare them to nurses? Thats 2 different jobs.
04/12/07 (26)
Ellwood once had a "gated community"...it was called U. S. Steel.

04/12/07 (29)
Well I thought I would hire a local guy to do the work needed on my
house. I got new gutters & downspouts along with some other things. Now
after each rain I have to empty 20 gallon buckets of rainwater at each
corner where spouting was connected. Torrents of rainwater pours down
near the foundation of my house which never happened before.
What is even more disastrous is the water pours down in back of the
spouting not in it. I did call the guy back and he came three times. I
was being too picky!

Moving to the Ellwood city area sometime soon. Does Ellwood have an
upscale housing community? I would not consider Ewing Park upscale or
Pinehill. Church Hill is too old as well as Mecklem Lane and Rolling
Hills. Looking for a larger home in a gated community with an
association that protects the homeowners and the value of their property
with no sight of trailer parks or section 8 housing.
ya right maybe you should stay in your perfect world where you are
at...we dont need a stuck up uptight person like you moving here...you
would probably have a fit hearing motorcycles or the children playing in
the summer...maybe in your world you dont have section 8 housing or
trailer parks but in the REAL world they do....
04/11/07 (02)
I would like to tell council how proud I am of them for hiring our new
Police Chief from outside the usual candidates! I have faith that his
not living here he will have no problem arresting or chasing the bad
guys out of this town and turning it back into the wonderful community
it once was! Thanks council!!
04/11/07 (03)
what happened to the police reports
04/11/07 (04)
I WAS NOT for the disbanding of the Perry Police Department, but maybe
it will be a good thing as long as the State Police really do have a
presence here. The State Police will be less likely to take all of the
CRAP from the residents that thought they had the power to control the
Perry PD.

Move to Cranberry
You wouldn't consider Pine Hill upscale? I know of properties that went
for over 500,000 dollars! What do you expect in a small town.
Millionaire Acres? That's just in Monopoly

Does anyone know know why there aren't computers in each classroom at
the high school (Lincoln)? I know there is a computer lab on the second
floor but what if a student wanted to look up something during class
time? I think it would be a good idea to host a Partents' Night in the
Spring as well so we can look at the facilities more closely and ask
questions.

I'll be moving out of Ellwood soon to the North Hills suburbs. Does
anyone know of a community in the North Hills area that has plenty of
hot dog shops, at least four dollar stores, lots of bars, and twelve
pizza shops? I'd really like to be near lots of whiny, complaining, lazy
people who write messages on a sound off board, too. A cheerleading
association that breaks very small girls' hearts would be a bonus. Any
help is appreciated.

04/11/07 (14)
I have bit my tongue for long enough...SOMETHING needs to be done at
Walnut Ridge Elementary School when the car-riding students are let out.
Every day at around 3 when I go through there, there are cars lined up
around every bend, around every road, making it difficult to drive
through there safely. If you were to keep going passed the school, and
drive up toward Skyline Drive, you would see that it is basically a
one-way street. If a car is coming the other way, your only chance is to
reverse and pray that there is nobody flying up behind you. Yes, before
you blame me for always rushing through, I will tell you that I have
opted to wait countless times. This is not a quick pause, this is a 5-15
minute stand-still, and when you are running late for work (like I have
been a few times)that does not help in the least bit. Someone is going
to get hurt, or, God forbid, killed, if they don't get some sort of
traffic cop up there! I'm sure we can spare one cop for a half hour.

A Twp manager for Perry Twp doesn't sound like such a bad idea compared
to what has happened recently, it would have offered some guidance and
stability. The Twp could easily afforded this and the police dep't
verses the lawsuits it now has to face. This would have provided a
service to the people instead of depleating the Twp's reserves.

Three supervisors working in "complete harmony" is one supervisor doing
all the thinking and two saying "aye." If we wanted that why elect
three? I want three thinking supervisors.

Although this really has every look of a troll, please know this: If
those are the living conditions you are looking for, Ellwood surely
isn't the community for you.
There is a nice little gated bungalow in Pine Hill Estates with a gate,
fencing and about 16 private acres for $1.6 million that might fit your
needs.
Maybe Treesdale or some other community in Pine
Richland-Cranberry-Bradford Woods would be more appropriate.

To #1 on 4/9/07 - Well stated! I couldn't agree with you more. And the
longer we go the worse it is getting in the township. As it has been
said, "You ain't seen nothing yet!" - we all should be concerned about
the future of the townhship.
04/10/07 (26)
Can anyone tell me who to ask about the following concern...
There are a few homes up on the hill on North Side, located INSIDE the
borough of Ellwood City that are
still not connected to the sewage system.
Yet, all of our neighbors located in Wayne Twp. are.
And another concern of mine is the fact that we have all these new homes
up here, and last year, we had to stand by and watch as a
neighboring home burnt, while the fire dept did their best to truck
water in to fight it, due to the fact that we have no fire hydrants up
here.
I guess I shouldnt complain, we did get the luxury of 'city
water' in the early 70's!

I wonder if anything will be left of Perry Twp. before residents realize
they are the problem. Perry had three supervisors who worked in complete
harmony and were at the tail end of placing the Twp in the most
financially stable position it had seen in years. The police dep’t was
in tact, roads were usable and plowed, with continuity among the
employees. But some residents driven by spite, through irresponsible
media resources, were successful in convincing the gullible that the
supervisors were incompetent and the Twp was headed in the wrong
direction. With little common sense and much rage the residents voted or
harassed them out of office and opened the door to people with personal
agendas. Many supervisors later and with the Twp in much worse shape the
residents are again complaining they deserve better, but they fail to
mention this is a direct result of the voter’s actions or inactions.
Many unappreciative residents treated their elected officials with total
disre!
spect while the ones with the wisdom to know this is a recipe for
disaster, stayed silent. It’s obvious now that those three supervisors
did have the best interest of the Twp in mind. In reality Perry’s
situation is as it should be, residents are reaping the rewards of their
efforts or lack of. What will it take before voters realize that a Twp
the size of Perry with less than 2000 residents will have to compromise
on every service it provides? Will the fire dep’t be the next thing put
on the chopping block to pay for roads and lawsuits? How will a Twp
burdened with a reputation of mistreating its elected officials ever
gain a worthy candidate? Will the mature step forward leading the way
toward a favorable environment for level headed veteran officials, or
will they continue to let the misguided dismantle what is left? Will
wisdom prevail as Perry goes through another cycle of debt from the
result of lawsuits or will voters again condemn the supervisors that
have to !
deal with this while raising taxes and cutting services in an effort t
o regain financial stability? Only time will tell, the residents will
decide and they haven’t shown appreciation or wisdom to be there strong
points.

I have no problem with WHAT the "foul mouthed teenagers" were wearing on
5th & Lawrence (except for the kid with his butt hanging out of his

lights are not the responsibility of the district. Biting my tongue I
went ahead and did just that, reported it. Nothing has been done for
weeks. You can sure bet your butt that if you get caught speeding in the
school zone you will pay big for it and if God forbid a speeding vehicle
comes through there and hits a bus what then ? How can this township
give tickets for stop sign violations when 50 feet away the school zone
lights DO NOT WORK ??? Has anyone else out there noticed this ? How do
we ensure that something will get done to correct this before someone is
killed. We all need to work to correct this matter a s a p.

That’s exactly what I’m telling you! From what I understand there were
two police cars parked in front of the local courthouse! Less than ½
block away! What’s the difference, do you think by the time an incident
occurs and someone calls the police and the police are given the call
over the police radio that you don’t have elapsed amount of time? They
could be in Koppel by the time the call is given to the police! The
chances of the police witnessing a crime are not very good don’t you
read the paper most of the crimes don’t occur on the main street! The
police can’t be everywhere! Why at that time in the morning when the
incident occurred the police only had one witness who came forward to
help! And here’s the kicker it was a young kid! Yes a young kid! Not one
of our stellar senior citizens who have the right to do whatever they
want and don’t want anybody downtown when they walk along are precious
main street! As to your last sentence I’m sure you wouldn’t have even
took t!
he time to get involved! Times change keep living in the past why do you
think EC can’t progress, we keep putting 70-80 year old people to lead
are city!
04/09/07 (21)
Yes, my Dad and Father in law lost their jobs when the Steel Industry
went under in the late 70's. Of course they were shocked! Then they both
"rose to the occasion" and found another way to stay in this town and
keep both their large amount of farming property and pride both intact!
There is ALWAYS a way to stay...if you really want to work instead of
rolling over and playing dead!
04/09/07 (22)
Sounds like the writer of #1 on 4/3/2007 has to resort to name-calling!
He certainly doesn’t answer the question posed to him! That’s a
brilliant statement put an officer on light duty on the street, do you
think something can’t happen on the street and the officer get reinjured?
Do you think part-timer isn’t busy answering calls too? Remember the
borough only wanted the P/T officers to replace officers on leave! Do
you think they have more officers out since they hired P/T officers? Two
officers working a shift any way you cut the pie!
04/09/07 (23)
I’m putting your posting right below so you can’t say I twisted the
facts!
#1 You say to conduct a pat-down search for no other reason than to
protect the officer. To do a “Pat Down” the reasonable suspicion must
come first before the pat-down search, you can’t put the horse before
the cart!
#2 You can’t have a K9 walk up and order it to search without some other
Articulate Facts to substantiate your actions! Just because you don’t
like the kid’s looks isn’t enough!
#3 You obviously have your head in a bucket about parents and the wads
of cash! I’m sure not every kid has a wad of cash! You are embellishing
your statement in an attempt to make it more believable! Merely talking
to someone is not grounds for a “Terry Search”
#4 Again, the “Pat Down” is for WEAPONS not a fishing expedition for the
police to look for drugs! The “Pat Down” is generally on the outside of
the clothing and not in the pockets, crotch, shoes, etc.
#5 Sounds like you’re a policeman wanting to stretch the “Pat Down” to
an all out search for drugs. Fortunately we have a constitution for
officers like you!
04/03/07 (09)
if you are an attorney then you're not a very attentive one. if you
re-read my post, i said that an officer does not generally reach
reasonable suspicion simply by talking to someone. a pat down may be in
order to protect the officer, no more. i also indicated that if a K9
"hit" on the individual then the officer has reasonable suspicion to do
a search of the person.
i slosh doubt that most of these kids are getting wads of cash from
their parents when you consider that half of Ellwood struggles to pay
their bills. they don't have that kind of cash laying around.
you sound more like a politician than an attorney, twisting the facts.

me the 4 wheeler situation may be bveing controled some what; as he saw
State Police with Two pulled up out on one of the Twp. Rds. and these
Police are being seen out there where they were never seen before and at
times the locals never worked.
04/09/07 (26)
Why would you want to reward a business which is lying to you before you
even enter their doors? Case in point...car dealers which advertise the
price of a car, say $12000 then at the bottom of the page is the $695
"dealer fee". 100% of this fee goes to the dealer...therefore the
price of the car isn't the $12000 they represent. Its $12695. When was
the last time you paid a "dealer fee" at McDonalds, Burger King, Walmart???
Why not? Because most other segments of retail operate with much more
integrity than the slimy car business! This "dealer fee" game is nothing
more than advertising what they say is the "price" when in reality its
only a partial price with the rest made up with this fee.

04/09/07 (32)
why can't all of those little girls be cheerleaders????? Let them
participate and learn and if they really enjoy it - then - make the
decision to "try out" for high school
I would love to see these girls make it too and I am sure if every girl
that wanted to be a cheerleader made it we would have at least 20
parents(moms) per squad be sponsors, but I doubt it. The uniform itself
is $120 plus the cost of everything else you are required to get plus
the registration fees will add up. I know I couldn't just write out a
check for it all like some people in Ellwood. Would you like to see 50
girls on the side lines while we only have 20 boys on the team. Thats
crazy!! Also what are we teaching these girls about try outs? When they
get to high school are you moms gonna whine and cry that the ECLW did
away with tryouts why not the high school? Come on, get over yourself.
Maybe thats why most kids these days are they way they are because you
give them everything and do not make them work for what they want. You
want cheerleading then you should be practicing and doing something like
gymnastics or cheer classes. I know alot of the cheerleaders that made!
it do go to these type of classes and they know what is a stake. So
instead of posting some rediculous comment about removing try outs at
this level why not formulate a plan on how this can happen, join the

Last evening I went with my daughter and 3 young grandchildren ages 2, 5
and 7 to Ewing Park for what we thought would be and enjoyable evening.
Instead, the first sight we came upon was a teenage couple at a picnic
table in a position similar to a scene from an R-rated movie. As the
children began playing at Kid's Kingdom my 7 year old grandson went down
the tubular slide and bumped into a teenage girl who was blocking the
exit. She screamed loud enough for everyone in the park to hear her, not
once but twice. Then she started calling him names and took his shoe
throwing it across the playground. Several of these teenage girls
monopolized the swings laughing and screaming as if to dare any young
child to come near the swings. They continued talking loud enough for
all the adults and children to hear the obscenities they were using. All
the children had to be kept away from that side of the play area.
Finally, after being left with no other alternative, we called the
police !
to come and rectify the situtation. I thought this was supposed to be a
family oriented play area for children. Apparently I was mistaken.

Good Job, Austin R.
This second grader at Riverside took time out from playing at the kids
baseball field in Ewing Park, to pick up a garbage bag full of trash
that was left on the field. Included were two - one gallon milk
containers, a pizza box and lots of paper wrappers that were just
trashed. He said he was
just trying to be a good citizen.
Way to go, Austin!

RE:When those people were young, it was nothing to jog in the mall and

nearing 60, it isn't as much fun.
I know many 60+ people. Some that are close to 70 and they have more
energy than I do. I am in my 40's. Many of these folks are inspirational
in what they do. I know many that traipse around shopping all day often.
I know many that go out dancing all night, bowl on leagues, ride
motorcycles, ride bicycles for miles on end, jog and golf. So shopping
at a store they can pull in front of and enter, isn't something they may
necessarily want or need. I hope that I am as energetic as they are when
I retire. You older folks go!!!!

Keith Beachem had his time as supervisor and was unable to finish the
term of office ...it is plain to see his
attitude hasn't changed, so why give him another chance. Perry Township

Here we go again...Perry Township road workers were found guilty of
leaving the scene of an accident when they hit a vehicle in the
township. Another expense for the township residents to pay out. With
three lawsuits and this on top of them, township residents shouldn't
count on many road repairs!

I moved away from Ellwood City almost 8 years ago
I appreciate the feedback to my original posting.
BUT...
What, can't take the truth? All I am doing is stating the obvious. My
dad, who worked for B&W for 20 years had to hit the road as a contractor
to make the same money he made at the steel mill. The little bank will
be acquired by a bigger bank, the fast growing steel company will never
have the ability to employ enough people in the community to make an
impact on unemployment rates before it is bought by some overseas
company and outsource everything. I know ALL TOO WELL, that there are
small succesful companies in EC. The problem is that they are small and
are not willing and able to employ someone who is educated and who is
worth $80K - $100K per year. The problem with EC is that it still thinks
blue collar work is the ticket... HELLO!!! Textiles manufacturing in the
South and Steel manufacturing as well has moved over seas. The trend in
the US is technology and white collar work. EC needs to stop thinking
like a 3rd world country.
I blame know one, if I did I would still be in EC, drinking at one of
the many bars making piddly squat. I MOVED ON TO BIGGER AND BETTER
THINGS!!!

To those of you who have asked where the blog for Ron went here is your
answer. The family has discontiued it because of some very negitive feed
back.and Jennifer doesn't need this added stress. She is doing what
every daughter would do. Now about the shopping in town. Granted we
don"t have a good selection of stores,BUT the ones we do have should be
used. Mary Janet who ownes Condition Mint just bought the property
accross from St. Agatha church and is going to renovate for a low key
coffee shop. Obiviously she loves Ellwood City and has faith that people
will support the shop. There are also many stores on Main street that
should be used. So you may not find a parkling spot right in front ,
well we probly all need to walk a litte. I like doing the street and
chatting with people. I try not to find any negitivity in Ellwod City
and have said many times "This is the best move I have ever made coming
back HOME" Barbara Franus Osborne
04/05/07 (26)
Is there an animal rescue for basset hounds in the Ellwood City area?
04/05/07 (27)
To 4/04 #6 - You have added many fine points and suggestions. However,
one problem remains that will be very costly to anyone considering
opening a new business.
I'm not up on the currant building codes for Pennsylvania or Ellwood
City. So, I will respond as if it was my community.
Many of the existing buildings found in the former business district
would have to be removed and replaced as they would not pass the
building code requirements for occupancy. Many of the structures on
Lawrence Avenue and the side streets date back to the early 1900's. Site
removal of one structure is very difficult as many of these buildings
were tied into one another when they were first constructed. This is one
reason that fires on Lawrence Avenue have traveled between building so
rapidly in the past.
Then there is the loud hue and cry from the citizens whenever a
development company arrives and begins to purchase several buildings in
a row with the thought of tearing down the old buildings replacing them
with a more modern structure. We read about imagined traffice woes,
enrochement of easements, loads on the sewer lines, etc.
Then there is the parking situation. The bedrock which lies under the
downtown area makes the digging out of underground garages too cost
prohibitive. (For those who don't understand, the bed rock on the
Northern side of the railroad tracks on fifth street is only a few feet
below the street level. Any basements which you find in the existing
buildings are there because the origional builder had to blast them out
of the bedrock.
On Lawrence Avenue, you will hit bed rock around twelve feet below the
street level, although at Sixth street, it is much closer to the
surface.
So the only other alternative is to build surface parking garages like
those in New Castle.
So, let's face reality; unless someone with a lot of bucks to invest
shows up on the City Building's front steps, the rebirth of the business
district in Ellwood City is simply not going to happen.
Stop living in the past, learn to deal with what you have and strive to
move forward.

It is too early to wear sandals no matter if they are red, black or
green. What are these kids thinking?
04/05/07 (29)
In regards to everyone complaining about the kids on Lawrence Ave. Yes
there are some foul mouthed kids that hang on the street. But, there are
also some good kids. Just because you don't like the clothes that they
are wearing and the way they look doesn't mean that they are all bad.
i'm sure some of the older folks thought we were bad with some of the
things we wore when we were kids. Don't judge people for how they look.
I know some kids that are A students, very polite, and they have good
parents with good jobs and they still dress like some of those kids on
Lawrence Ave,in fact they are some of those kids on Lawrence Ave so
don't beleive they are all bad!!

04/02/07 (25)
To the lady in the blue car who opened their door and hit my wifes car
at giant eagle. You could have told my wife you were sorry and checked
to make sure there was no damage. You know my wife and daughter were
sitting in the car after just pulling in. No, you just said to your kid,
to hurry up and get into the store. Nice example to set for children. No
damage was done to the car by the way. You are lucky that I was not
there as I would never have left you get just walk into the store
without atleast telling you what I thought.
Doesn't that just peeve you off? It does me.
I have a nice car and make damn sure that when I enter or exit it, I am
not damaging anyone elses vehicle.
But for some reason, people park RIGHT next to me. I attended the play
at Lincoln, someone parked so close to me, I had to get in on the
passenger side. How anybody got out of that van without hitting my SUV
is beyond me.
Bottom line is people just don't care."
The second post (Tuesday morning), made me smile! I usually shop at
Giant Eagle and many times park at the far end of the lot as not to be
near other vehicles. Well, when I come out of the store, there are
always vehicles surrounding me, even though there are many other open
spots in the parking lot. Thanks for the enjoyable post!

04/04/07 (06)
Re: 4/03, #19. Those are all good points. Now, let's look at why this
could be the optimal time to revitalize any downtown.
The predominant age group in this country is fast approaching Senior
Citizendom. And although Boomers do a lot of talking about good health
and exercise, quite a few are over-weight or have health problems. If
you go to a mall, any mall, to shop, you are guaranteed a good long
walk, just to get from the parking lot to the entrance. When those
people were young, it was nothing to jog in the mall and spend the day
traipsing from one end to the other. But now that they are nearing 60,
it isn't as much fun.
Imagine how much more convenient it would be for those folks to park on
a street near the store they wanted to shop in. How much easier to go
directly to the store you wanted to patronize, rather than walk past 20
to get to that one. And what would it be worth to those same shoppers to
have clerks who not only knew about their merchandise, but were willing
to help locate things? That was what downtown used to be. Could that be
what downtown will be again in another 10 or 15 years?
Ellwood has a real problem with the parking situation. Even though there
are few stores left there, it is often difficult if not impossible to
find a parking spot. Denny Schill Manor was a horrendous idea for that
location, and Crescent Place wasn't much better.
The problem the other poster mentioned about the kids on the street
using foul language would also go away if more shoppers and just
"regular" people were on the street. Those kinds of kids moved in after
everybody else left. You can't arrest people for how they dress or talk,
and you can bet their parents could care less if you were to complain to
them. The only way to move them out is to put someone else in their
place.
And please, spare me the "The kids don't have any where to go or
anything to do" whine. Life is what YOU make it. If you are content
standing on a street corner looking and acting like a bum, then that is
what you are, and what you will continue to be. Don't ask for my
sympathy. There have been plenty of opportunities for the young people
here, yet some refuse to help themselves and participate in any of them.
It is a good lesson to learn early in life that the world does not
revolve around you. If you are going to succeed, then it is up to YOU to
do it, instead of looking for someone else to do it for you.

In ref to foot patrol for the EC Police. I'm a former resident so I
don't know this, but does EC have auxillary police? If so use them and
if not form an auxillary police force.
Another option is for the concerned citizens to perform a type of
"citizens watch". the citizens watch can patrol downtown. There are
probably other options, but not many. If the ECPD doesn't have the staff
then the community should augment them and help them with the problems
downtown. EC is a community and as a community, work together to solve
the problem.
Anyway to get clarification on the story of the 3 guys dropping f bombs.
were they dropping f bombs at the people in the car or were they
conversing amongst themselves?

so what you are saying is that the police are not preventing crime? if a
person knows an officer is right around the corner and that doesn't
deter him then what good are the police.
04/04/07 (15)
are you trying to tell me that after parking on main street and seeing
an officer on foot they would still be dumb enough to go a half a block
away and commit a robbery? they might have went to a different location
to find a different target but i doubt they would have done it right
there.
i would have loved to have been the one they tried to rob. but with the
justice system the way it is i probably would have been the one going to
jail while they were in the hospital recovering.

Being in business, I know a little bit about no-bid-contracts. Many of
them are that way because the only other company capable of doing that
type of work is in anothr state or another country. Tht is why Clinton

Saturday evening it was so nice out we decided to take a drive. Years
ago when I was a teen I use to do this with my Mom for "something to
do". What I observed on 5th and Lawrence at 8:30 pm was anything but a
trip down memory lane...
Three caucasian male teenagers...two in white shirts with black sleeves
one in a plain white T-shirt and baggy shorts about to fall off his butt
screamed the "F-Bomb"! This lude conversation continued back and forth
between all three of them! All three young men used this F-word, and
other profanities as a vowel, an interjection, a noun, an adjective and
also as a dangling participle! I had a good notion to get out of the car
to confront these three little Wangsters (Meaning...Gangster
wannabees)but wasn't sure if I'd be arrested or cited for doing so! I'd
like to drop these three individuals in the center of Philly to SHOW
them what REAL gangsters are! All three of them would have cried for
their Mommy!
Point is...What do we do as concerned citizens about this type of

if you are an attorney then you're not a very attentive one. if you
re-read my post, i said that an officer does not generally reach
reasonable suspicion simply by talking to someone. a pat down may be in
order to protect the officer, no more. i also indicated that if a K9
"hit" on the individual then the officer has reasonable suspicion to do
a search of the person.
i slso doubt that most of these kids are getting wads of cash from their
parents when you consider that half of ellwood struggles to pay their
bills. they don't have that kind of cash laying around.
you sound more like a politician than an attorney, twisting the facts.

Why is the Riverside softball team afraid to play Ellwood City? It's
been cancelled 2 years in a row now. the game the game for the end
of April is already cancelled. Thats a shame the girls look forward to
it!

Are the elementary schools selling Pirate tickets this year? Did a flyer
go out yet? Last year we took our whole family for something like only
$5 or $6 a ticket. I hope they are doing this again. Any info from the
school posted here would be appreciated.

Flyers did go out, but I believe that the deadline has passed... Call
one of the elementary schools and ask if tickets are still available.

To Poster 03/29/07 (35) Yes, I can say Self Control because I had it for
the entire 33 years. Also, school is not "day care." Perhaps, the
schools can take some blame for not enough strict discipline. But,
discipline begins in the home.
I understand and agree, for the most part, with your post. My only input
to this statement would be that maybe the colleges/universities should
add a course in anger management for students enrolled in the Education
classes. Not that they need it while in school, but perhaps it will help
them when it comes time to deal with "out of control" students.

Keith B.had his chance at supervisor, and things were not so great when
he was in office.Don't complain about 4 wheelers on the roads if you are
planning on voting for Keith B.,he stated in the newspapers he was for
getting rid of the Perry Police,so who will stop them?Perry needs new
blood, not old supervisors who go to meeting stirring up trouble!

I believe that I read Mr. TD's skinning softening tips on another
website several years ago. They are tried and true methods and are very
inexpensive solutions. Pricey creams may do the trick, but natural
remedies are always better.
As always thanks for sharing your advice with us, Mr. TD. TD - your
posts cover a wide range of topics and they are always informative.
Thanks for sharing.
