HEY ALL, If a Teacher feels the money is not enough,then get a job in
private industry. If a "Miil Rat" or any other person feels that a
teaching position is great money ,get a job teaching.

To "09" 3/1/07
The response is most likely from a retired teacher at the age of 55
making 70% of their salary, plus hospitalization, and having nothing to
do except responding to "sound off"

I have two sons that attend Lincoln High School and I can honestly say
that I feel that they have great teachers who always respond to my
questions about their grades and who seem genuinely concerned for them
to do well. People seem to be so quick to judge this profession harshly
and I do not understand why. I mean, I feel that some of those teachers
have no business being in that profession, but for the most part my
dealings with their various teachers have been very positive and after
knowing some of those children in that school and hearing what my kids
tell me that those teachers have to deal with on a daily basis, I feel
they deserve the income they get plus more.

no.6 on 2-28 is lost, and another person who loves to have weapons. gun
control isnt to take away guns. it's to keep ak-47, sub machine guns,
and other high powered, non hunting (food gaining weapons) out of the
citizens hands. not one person needs those weapons in their posession,
ever. now i can see where there are clubs where one can go to shoot
those weapons if they want that kind of fun, but i feel those weapons
should be on site, not carried in.
How do you think criminals are getting their hands on those types of
weapons? It isn't at a gun show I can promise you that.

To the upset parent about Prom. I am a class officer. I helped to plan
and make Prom possible last year. You may not realize it, but it is
indeed almost like a mini-wedding. You are planning meals for about 400
students. You must buy linens, party favors, invitations, decorations,
and the biggest thing is that Seniors go for free, so they are all paid
for. It has always been this way. It is the Junior class' fault for not
selling much on their fundraisers last year. Our class (class of 2007)
did exceptionally well last year and our class sold so much money worth
of fundraisers. Even with that, our price for students and outside
students was $90.00. If these kids would have put more effort into
selling fundraisers, the price would not nearly be as high as it is now.
:> I'm the upset parent. I am an event coordinator and I am well aware
of the cost involved. The cost of linens are usually included in the
price per plate. Most places offer a variety of packages to choose from.
If this is costing more than budgeted then you should of gone with the
most moderate pakage. Not the top of the line! Invitations what the heck
do you need invitations for? These could of been designed and printed
out on someone computer, get real! You wouldn't have the cost of stamps,
now would you, since you can pass them out at school.
My real question to you is - why does it cost an outsider more than a
junior to attend? What does the outsider get for his or her money? A
plate of food that only cost at most $20 a plate. Give me a break
people! Outsiders aren't even eligible for prizes, which I might add you
ask for donations, so where's that expense?
Quit blowing smoke - this is just another prime example of Ellwood,
better than everyone else, trying to make a statement.
Another question to you - why all the way to Aliqippa? I've been to the
Fedz, it's no big deal. The Scottish Rite Cathedral would of been
better. You knew way in advance that prom would becoming, so don't use
the excuse that you couldn't find a place! That's BS too!!
You said 400 people and seniors go free, which I realize, you don't have
to remind me that that's been the policy for years. So let's see half
are juniors at the cost of $95 each times 200 of them, would equal to
$19,000. More than the average cost of your so called mini-wedding.
Ghezz let's see 200 people at $20 a plate equals a whopping $4,000. You
tell me how you can justify $19,000 for a prom? This doesn't include the
price of outsiders. I welcome you to explain to me what these kids are
getting for their money.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye citizens of Ellwood City ! It appears our wise leaders
on City Council will select a person to fill in the vacant council chair
who has only lived in the Borough for 3 or so years. So all you fine
folks who have applied for the position need not bother getting your
hopes up...its a done deal and a slap to the face for people who have
lived in this town their entire life. It's a balance of power play all
over again.
******************************
You are obviuosly being fed misinformation. The person you are referring
to is not going to be the appointee, no matter how many times he
applies.
The person who will fill Mr. Cavalier's vacancy is a long time respected
resident.
You heard it here first.
Stop spreading BS, and wait until the vote comes down. This town is
filled with enough rumors already.

let's change it this time around, lets either carefully look at charater
personal & professional, leaving the personalitty mud slinging out of
this election, We the community have lost 2 good men in politics, they
expect us to change what they could not accomplish but we own them the
respect to only vote & reunited for the better of this community not for

Hopefully everyone read the front page of the Ledger Tuesday. Monday the
police from Ellwood and surounding areas conducted a well executed drug
bust, after catching the person who had been robbing local convenient
stores in the early morning hours. Watching this take place was awesome.
It just proves that justice is served. It just takes a little time and a
whole lot of help so noone gets seriously injured. Good job to the
police departments involved!!!!
Good comment, we may complain BUT if you haven't had anything happen to
harm you in this town then you better change your tune about our
force......

The basketball game that's at Riverside on March 3rd, where can someone
purchase tickets, how much are the tickets, and what time does the game
start? Thanks!
03/02/07 (19)
In reference to 3/1/07 #10, you completely contradicted yourself! First
you say the police should work a 21-turn schedule like YOU (I guess a
mill rat). You said it not me! Then you say you work 50-60 hours a week,
get called out, and go to training. If that’s true then you are
receiving overtime, that’s the law! But then you say it’s wrong for the
officers to receive overtime. Which is it? If you work a 21-turn
schedule and you then supposedly work 50-60 hours a week then apparently
your 21-turn schedule doesn’t work! Its simple math if you have 3 turns
(8 hour shifts) a day and two officers on a shift, then that’s 42 turns
a week you need to cover. If they work 5 shifts-8 hour shifts a week
then you need 9 officers to cover all the shifts!!! See how simple. That
means you need 9 officers to cover the week. Of course that’s without
vacations, disabilities, covering shifts for the officer regularly
schedule on the shift so they can go to court, personal days, sick days,
cov!
ering for officers at training. If you’re going to make a valid argument
the facts will remain the same! Liars can figure, but figures don’t lie.
No matter what the shifts are the facts remain you need to cover 7 days
a week X 24 hours x 2 officers. Figure it out!!!!

you take your kid to the Bar and I'll take my child to the gun show.

re:Gee, when can I get one of those "Professional Teaching Jobs?"
I'm a teacher and my day starts at 6:45 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. I get
one 45 minute planning period and a 20 min lunch time with students and
no other breaks during the day.
Then I have to take the student's work home and spend another two hours
correcting papers, while making follow up calls with parents due to
missing work or behavorial issues in the classroom. Three hours
preparing for my next day's classes plus help my wife (who is a teacher)
with the house work, working with my own children and I usually have 1.5
hours of my own homework to do for the graduate school class I'm taking
for four hours each Saturday.
Hmmmm, I have an excellent idea, why don't you come and work with me for
a week and see what being a teacher is really like. I'll let you take
care of the dress code issues, missing homework, the excuses for coming
to school late
^wow.......never have to work overtime...never work a weekend....never
work a holiday...never work during summer..

I would like to see a street sign put up at the junction of Union Street
and Line Avenue on the north side. I've lived here six years and even
though it has been suggested, no sign yet. Would make giving directions
a lot easier.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The purpose of a stop sign is not to facilitate you giving directions.
There are street signs for that purpose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe I'm wrong, but it appears to me that the original poster was
asking for a STREET SIGN, not a stop sign... maybe you should re-read a
persons post before you jump on them!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Street signs and house numbers were mandated with the enhanced 911
system of several years ago.
The original post was for a stop sign.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, this is hardly worth bickering over... but from what I see of the
original post, it plainly states 'Street Sign'. Now then... I happen to
live on the North Side and I drive through that area quite often, so I
made it a point to take notice as to what signs are & arent there... at
present time, there is indeed a stop sign there, which if there wasnt,
would be a HUGE safety issue and would need corrected immediately! (why
would the original poster be asking for a Stop Sign where one alread
exists?!) However, although 'mandated several years ago' there is NO
street sign at the juntion of Union St. and Line Ave. stating that this
is where Union St. is located... the sign for Line Ave. is there... but
not the one for Union. Although it appears there is a bracket there,
minus the name plate.
Now with that clarified, you have brought up a very valid point... due
to the 911 changes, the absence of the street sign, is not only a
problem when giving directions to ones home, it is also now a safety
issue, should the police, fire or medical services be needed in that
area, valuable moments could be wasted trying to locate this street, and
a life could be lost.
Now then, what do we do about it?!
03/02/07 (25)
In Pa. you can hunt when you are 12 years old. If you do not like that,
move to another state/country. My grandfather had guns-my father had
guns-I have guns and my son has a gun. None of us were ever arrested. We
are certainly better citizens that some of the the streets occupy.
03/02/07 (26)

You couldn't pay me 50 grand (which I highly doubt every teacher makes
that) to put up with some of those kids.

principal, and superintendant back than.
but i guess now that football (deposed) football coaches are now
involved for their kids, maybe the school will "help" the program
succeed. stop the fighting parents.

The 21 turn schedule in the mill works. Police departments are not
mills. Your comment is excactly what is wrong with Ellwood City. Mill
rats go to work their 8 hour
shift then go home. They dont go to court, they dont go to training,
they work short to cover vacations. Please dont compare everything to
the mill. There is life after steel!
well you are wrong (mill rats) do work more than 50-60 hrs a week get
called in on days off arerequired to go to training and pay the taxes
that pay the police men < (mill rats) dont go home for lunch and dinner
and as long as (mill rats pay taxes they have a say the police
department needs to wronk 21-turn scheaduke to reduce overtime
and cost and serv the community not hold it hostage

1. It's Riverside & Ellwood City (REC).

3. They pay for their own insurance. They also paid the school for the
custodian's time.

03/01/07 (16)
Attn: 2/28/07 #1.
Well by looking at your "figures" I see that again someone decides to
spout off before knowing even part of the facts let alone all the facts.
First of all the teachers have to report to school no later than 7:25 am
and leave no earlier than 2:55 pm which makes for a longer than a 6 hour
work day as you stated. Secondly, a majority of the teachers are there
at least a half hour before or after those required times trying to get
caught up on the work they couldn't finish during their 42 MINUTE
PLANNING PERIOD not the 1 hour planning (that's 60 minutes for you since
you probably can't do the conversion yourself)period as you stated.
Also, I beg you to find a teacher anywhere who gets an hour for lunch.
It is 30 minutes which actually is reduced to 20 minutes by the time the
students clear the room and return to class. As far as study
halls....There has not been a study hall at the high school for grades
9-12 since around 2002. Not to mention the 1-2 hours of checking pap!
ers, making lessons, updating grades, downloading grades on edline,
putting notes on edline, and listing upcoming assignments on edline all
done from the home. Now, since you had a chance back in the day to go to
college and become a teacher yourself and decided not to because THAT
WAS YOUR CHOICE,please do not come on here and post uneducated,
unproven, bogus comments when you have no idea what you are talking
about. If you want to put your money where your mouth is, go to the
school and put yourself on the substitute list if you are such an
expert. Maybe they will make a movie about you and how you are God's
gift to education. Until then sit at home, collect welfare, mooch off
everyone's taxes and do not pollute this site with your opinion which
noone wants to hear about. Or at least talk to a teacher first and get
the facts straight and see how they enjoy watching your lovely angels
for 7.5 hrs a day (thats 7 1/2 hours if your not keeping up).
03/01/07 (17)
Why would anyone make such a ridiculous statement.....if it's perfectly
OK with you to take a child under 12 to a gun show, then take them to
the bar with you? That doesn't even make any sense at all!!! Comparing
apples to oranges makes more sense than that ridiculous statement!!! My
7 year old grandson knows how to handle a 22 cal. rifle safely and I
know he can make better sense than the person making that
statement!!!!!!!!!

The issue was children "UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE GET IN FREE" to the gun
show. If you think this is perfectly OK, then take your kid (under the
age of 12) to a bar with you.
Taking a kid under 12 to a gun show is as bad as taking him to a bar? I
don't get it. The memories of my late father taking me hunting when I
was only 8 years old are some of the best things I remember. I didn't
have a gun, but to be with him and my brother were something that I
looked forward to every Saturday. Now I take my son who was only 9 years
old the first time he went with me. At the end of the day, I let him
shoot a few shots, just like my father did with me.He was taught how to
handle and shoot a firearm. When he turned 10 I bought him his first
gun, a 22 rifle. We go to the shootng range and target practice. We go
to some gun shows to look and sometimes buy a gun. Hunting and shooting
are a great sport. It is a great way to spend time with your kids. So
what is so bad about gun shows? Heck the department stores have them for
sale and are visible to all. I think I would be more worried about them
watching the trash on TV more than someone under 12 looking at some !
guns.

only one in Ellwood who doesn't think $50,000 is a lot of money. People
need to stop complaining and be just glad our children are getting a
good education!!

RE:02/28/07 (01)
Typical day for a "Professional Teacher".....
Let's not forget:
1. Grading your child's papers evenings and weekends.
2. Preparing tests and other lesson plans evenings and weekends.
2. Taking phone calls from parent's who think the teacher is to blame
for everything.
3. Missing their own child's school plays, field trips etc because even
though they have three months off- rarely do they get school year time
off.
4. No profit sharing or bonuses as experienced in "Corporate America".
No performance based raises.
5. Acting as teacher and counseler to your troubled teen.
6. Acting as club sponsor or coach so your kid can go on school trips
and have alot of extracurricular items to put on their ever so important
college app.
No I am not a teacher. I actually am a member of "Corporate America" and
for that I have to thank a teacher.
If you want to walk in their shoes go ahead but until then just be
quiet.
I am grateful for all of the good teachers that my children have
experienced. If you aren't then keep them home because you are probably
just one more problem on a long list of things the teachers deal with
every day.
03/01/07 (28)
Typical day for a "Professional Teacher"
8am till 2pm= 6 hours, subtract
1 Hour Planning Period.
1 Hour LUNCH.
1 Hour study hall.
3 total hours of teaching per day= 15 hours per week. 180 days/year.
Personally I think $50,000 per year is an awful lot. Quit your
whining!!!
Number 1. I am not a teacher but I did learn never to critcize someone
till you "walked a mile in their shoes". #2. Your "facts" are a little
screwed up. In Ellwood City a teacher reports at 7:00am not 8:00am. They
leave at 3:00pm not 2:00pm, the same as most jobs in industry. They have
a planning period. You may not want to realize but they are WORKING
during that period. Oh and they are not allowed to eat lunch according
to you. Because in the old days in the mill you only got a half hour.
There are mny jobs where you get an hour. And supervising a study hall
is WORKING. Now take in the times before and after school that they are
meeting with students one on one to help a student needing individual
help and you will see that they are putting in an 8 hour day. And tha
doesn't include reading assignments, homework, grading tests which
usually they do at home. Nobody was whining except the original poster
who started all this. I invite you, however, to check your facts more c!
losely.
03/01/07 (29)
Shows how much you know about a teacher's typical day...our schedule
actually reads more like this:
7 am till 3pm = 8 hours, subtract
40 minutes Planning Period.
30 minutes LUNCH.
NO study hall.
Add to that the work I take home with me almost every night and the
courses I take to keep my certificate current. I also work on my
curriculum in the summer because a good teacher never rests on what he
or she has already established. I am with students at lunch and during
my planning period. You obviously know NOTHING about the rigors of being
a good teacher.
I LOVE my job and am not complaining about it or the compensation I
receive...what we want more than anything is the respect that teachers
deserve. It's a shame you aren't bright enough to understand that.

There is so much "someone should do this" and "why doesn't so-and-so do
that" on this forum. Take some initiative and do it yourself. Take some
action. Make a few phone calls or write a few letters to the powers that
be. Nothing will ever get accomplished if we all sit around and discuss
who should do what and why. This forum would be best put to use if
people would bring up an issue and then, in a civilized manner, discuss
what can be done about it. This forum is a powerful tool for a community
and we are fortunate as a community to have such a forum. I think its
time that we use this forum to bring about some positive change for an
area that seems to so desperately need it.

To 2/28/07 No. 1 I am a former teacher and would have loved to work
under the conditions you described. Unfortunately, I gobbled my lunch in
the less-than 1/2 hour I got, taught seven 45 minute classes a day, and
frequently, had to take work home in order to have everything done.
Also, I got NOWHERE near the $50,000 salary you mention.

I am no teacher BUT, your math is INCORRECT!Typical day for a
"Professional Teacher"
7:26am till 2:21pm= 6 hours 5 minutes, subtract
42 Minute Planning Period.
30 Minute LUNCH.
42 Minute study hall-for only about 8 teachers
ADD STAYING AFTER SCHOOL TO HELP STUDENTS-1 hour
ABOUT 6 total hours of teaching per day= 25-30 hours per week. 180
days/year dealing with drug issues, hormones, rebel teens, fighting,
gossip from hundreds of kids. Personally I think $50,000 per year is
about right, if not too little.

You're right- teachers are overpaid if we consider the grammar and math
mistakes some people make. "Your lucky" and I see a 7 1/2 hour day
-minimum from 7:15 until 3, minus a 25 minute lunch break. There are
three (at most) planning periods a week. And Lincoln has no study halls.
Teachers also must achieve an extra 180 hours of further study every
five years. And, oh yes, the school year for teachers is 185 days.
The elementary teachers teach music and art, too, so they have a very
busy day.
I have always encouraged my children to respect everyone in their chosen
professions, be it policemen, clerks, or mailmen, for example. Let's
quit tearing each other down and build up our community. That takes real
brains and co-operation.
03/01/07 (43)
Gee, when can I get one of those "Professional Teaching Jobs?"
I'll let you take
care of the dress code issues, missing homework, the excuses for coming
to school late.

Career path for teacher:
1. Elmentary School
2. Middle School
3. High School
4. College
5. Repeat> Back to one of the above schools!
Student teaching should consist of at least two years in the "REAL
WORKFORCE" then they would know what is important to teach young adults.
They would also be more appreciative of the benefits that they have. The
world of academia????

I personally do not thank my former teachers for the fact that I can
read and write. I thank my father and mother. My father read me the
newspaper every night as a way to bond. My mother read me books. And
neither of my parents ever denied me the right to read any book,
magazine or newspaper I wanted. Both parents were always ready to
discuss what I had read. I wish more people had parents like mine who
did not expect the school to be the only source of learning a child had
available.

I would like to see a street sign put up at the junction of Union Street
and Line Avenue on the north side. I've lived here six years and even
though it has been suggested, no sign yet. Would make giving directions
a lot easier.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The purpose of a stop sign is not to facilitate you giving directions.
There are street signs for that purpose.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it appears to me that the original poster was
asking for a STREET SIGN, not a stop sign... maybe you should re-read a
persons post before you jump on them!
The 21 turn schedule in the mill works. Police departments are not
mills. Your comment is excactly what is wrong with Ellwood City. Mill
rats go to work their 8 hour shift then go home. They dont go to court,
they dont go to training, they work short to cover vacations. Please
dont compare everything to the mill. There is life after steel!
Whether you agree or not, this is an interesting lesson in history.
Something to think about...
------------------------------
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953,
about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded
up and exterminated.
------------------------------
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million
Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.
------------------------------
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total
of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were
rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million
political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.
------------------------------
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000
Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.
------------------------------
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.
------------------------------
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million
'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.
-----------------------------
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century
because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by
new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their
own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500
million dollars. The first year results are now in:
* Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
* Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
* Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
* In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300
percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the
criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the
past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is
unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the
ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was
expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The
Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear our
president, governors or other politicians disseminating this
information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,
gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans.....before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them
of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'.
Without them, we are 'subjects'.
Maybe we should all just buy our kids video games and set them in front
of the tv all day and hide them from all the bad things in the world
like GUN SHOWS.
Having grown up in a "hunters" home I can remember my father and
brothers cleaning their guns at the kitchen table. I was young, not even
10 at the time. These days that may be cause to call CYS, but 30 years
ago people taught their children to respect the power of a gun. We
weren't allowed to touch those guns unless they were cleaning them,
going to the shooting range (most farms have some type hunting range) or
hunting. I can only remember firing a gun one time, I hated the kick and
hated the BANG, guns are not for me. I was allowed to make that decision
for myself and there was no reason for me to ever touch a gun again. We
had guns behind the front and back doors, under beds, in closets, you
name a spot and most likely a gun was or had been there at one time or
another. My father and brothers now travel the world on hunting
excursions, guns aren't an evil instrument, the person handling it is.
Also it's going to cost the junior class $95 to go. What the h@@@???????
Someone please tell me what these kids are getting for their money. Who
Dear Ellwood….
PLEASE HELP US….
As a Committee Member for the Arthritis Foundation Arthritis Walk in New
Castle, I would like to invite you to participate in one of the fastest
growing fund-raising events of its kind in the country.
The Arthritis Walk, the nationwide signature event of the Arthritis
Foundation, celebrates those battling arthritis while simultaneously
raising money and awareness to prevent, control and cure arthritis, the
nations leading cause of disability. The funds raised through the
Arthritis Walk directly support arthritis research, health education and
government advocacy initiatives to improve the lives of people with
arthritis.
I wanted to share a little bit about why I got involved. As I mentioned
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was diagnosed a little over a year ago, I
was only 26 when I was diagnosed. The symptoms started several weeks
after the birth of my first child. After several months of tests and ER
visits they finally figured out what it was. I have no real family
history of RA and had no one to turn to ask questions about a disease
that I was going to have to deal with for the rest of my life. After
doing some research on the internet I stumbled across the Arthritis
Foundation. This is the second year I am participating in the arthritis
walk. Last year was the first year they held a walk and we really had a
GREAT turnout. It was wonderful to find an outlet where I felt like I
could do something about the pain I struggle with on a daily basis.
There is no real cure for RA and I know that the money raised last year
was not a huge amount of money but it is something… HELP ME MAKE MO!
RE OF AN IMPACT THIS YEAR! I found TONS of helpful information on
arthritis when I stumbled across the arthritis foundations website, I
ordered a kinds of magazines and pamphlets and read postings on the
message boards… the Arthritis Foundation helped me a lot in the first
few months and I love to have an opportunity to give that to other new
moms who are wondering WHY ME?
Please join us! The Arthritis Walk in New Castle will be held on May 12,
2007, at Pearson Park. Opening Ceremonies for the event begin at 9:00am,
immediately following more than 150 participants will begin walking to
show their support of the more than 46 million Americans currently
battling arthritis or chronic joint symptoms.
There are lots of ways to participate. For businesses there are several
sponsorship levels. Also, we are looking for Door Prizes from businesses
in the area, as well as businesses to form teams. We also have a star
program where you can sell stars (provided by the arthritis foundation)
and hang them on the walls or windows. Thank you to Sky Bank who has
already started our star program!
Also, I don’t own a business but I have a team of friends and family
walking as well as a church team. Being a team captain is super easy!
I hope you will choose to join us in our search to find a cure for
arthritis. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing
from you soon. Also, at the thousand dollar level you get your company
logo on the t-shirts for all the walks within the chapter.
The website for the New Castle walk is:
Feel free to contact if you have ANY interest! You can call me Melissa
Huston @ (724)758-2208 or Debbie Morton @ (724) 758-6405
owe it to yourself to defer making your bracket selections until you
OK Satchmo whatever that means, so a kid is 11 yrs old, and is going to
hunt next year or maybe this year. So dad takes him to a gun show to buy
his first gun. I know, you are home in front of your computer playing
video games and making up words like "satchmo" you people need to get a
grip on life. I do not even know why I responded to your stupid comment.
but some families still do things together. I have seen sons of all ages
at shows, daughters of all ages, and wives. so sit at home and play your
video games, but do not bad mouth a father or mother who takes the kids
to a gun show because they are interested in hunting and thier parents
care and do something with them
when the wrestling program started last year all the coaches were
volunteers, however this year some of the same volunteers were "asked"
not to help. because the program wich was started to give kids something
to do for exercise and fun has been basically hi-jacked by a group of
parents who hold elections behind closed doors, refuse to share
information with anyone else, so now it's a few people who only want
their friends involved, so now the fun is gone along with half of the
wrestlers.hopefully next year things will be better
It's Ellwood City, the woman's going to find out about her daughter one
way or another, she'd probably prefer a nice talk with a friend then
hearing a nasty rumor which she may or may not believe. I swear, half
the reason I didn't do anything wrong in High School was I knew my
mother would find out someway within the hour. It was annoying at the
time, but it's nice to live in a community in which some people still
genuinely care instead of getting off on gossip, as many of you do.
I am going out on a limb here and guessing that you do not have a child
in the Senior class at Lincoln. Things would be different if that were
the case. All of the graduation invitations/cards that were ordered
through Jostens (the school's provided company)will have to be changed.
Those are not cheap! I have to change several dates on scholarships,
state grants/loans, federal grants/loans, etc...It's just a pain in the
@$$. Why cause people the stress of not knowing when it will be held. I
also hear of several people that are having family from out of state
come, and they need to know the date to buy a plane ticket before they
are all gone!
02/27/07 (12)
Maybe we should all just buy our kids video games and set them in front
of the tv all day and hide them from all the bad things in the world
like GUN SHOWS! or maybe we could all give up hunting and play board
games during deer season but we can can still were our camo and orange
outfits. Get a grip people
n regards to teacher seminars and salaries go to stopteacherstrikes.com
you will be amazed at how corrupt the PSEA is and how they are raping
the taxpayers in state of Pennsylvania!!!!!
This website offers information about your local teachers compesation
compared to the taxpayers in a school district. I guarantee you will be
apalle
I took your advice and went to the website you mentioned. Spent about an
hour there looking to be appalled. But what I found out are a few very
important facts.
1. The average salaries listed include administrators too. Not just rank
and file teachers. That makes the average higher than it really is for
teachers.
2. Even so, Ellwood City is the second lowest average in Lawrence County
and is over $ 5,000.00 dollars below the state average, yet the
competency of Ellwood City teachers ranks higher than any other district
in Lawrence County.
3. Ellwood City has never had a district strike. They have always been
able to work out a contract with the School Board.
Just where is it that I am to be appalled? That they average 50,000.00 a
year? Compared to other professionals that is a little low. A startting
teacher makes in the 30.000.00 range. That certainly is within line for
an educated trained professional.
Oh and by the way, Since you psosses the capacity to read and write, as
you obviously do, thank a teacher!
i am a woman in her forty`s . i have hunted with ny father since i was
12.i am glad that i have learnt this experience and able to pass these
skills down to my children/ there is nothing wrong with taking your
child to a gun show.i would rather teach my children that guns are not
toys and the safety and skills that come along with a gun. instead of
just letting them watch alll of the shootings and killings on tv and
video games.just as i have and my children we have learnt what guns are
all about and what they can do.and what to use them for.just because you
are anti-gun does not mean that hunting , trap and skeet are a very
serious sport and better then hanging on a street corner somewhere. when
you go downtown and see all of the kids hanging out. i bet those kids
don`t have fathers that have taken them to gun shows and have taught
them skills and responsibilty.
i feel bad that you are so closed minded and don`t look at the whole
scoop of a gun show.what do you think these parents are teaching these
kids by taking them, to a gun show. how to tote a gun and rob people or
shoot up your school. i don`t think so.there is always kids that go
wrong no matter what you teach them , but the majority have kids that
learn the rights and wrongs from a young age are not the ones out
getting into trouble.if i had my choice of someone teaching their child
the proper skills o f hunting , shooting and guin skiils versus hanging
around do nothing or getting in trouble i pick the gun show.hope to see
you at the next gun show with your kids
I need some advice on what to do about an issue that we have all
encountered. I work with a dear woman who is a Christian. She has a
teenage daughter who I know personally. i have been told by numerous
people that this girl has changed from a kind young woman to a mean
young woman who is drinking alot, very "free" with the guys and
generally being not very nice. My question is this..do you tell the
mother what you know to be true, or do you stay out of it and maybe have
something bad happen to this young woman who we care about ?
I think this depends on the mother and how well you actually know one
another. Two years ago I told a very dear friend of mine her daughter
might be experimenting with a few things she probably isn't ready for,
to this day that very dear friend barely acknowledges me. But for me,
telling her was what I felt was the right thing to do and I would do it
again. Whichever you choose I wish you and your friend well.
A few years back we told neighbors that there child was skipping school.
And had people over. Thinking this was the right thing to do. ( I would
have wanted to be told if it was my child) The neighbors got mad at us.
Wasn't long after a baby was born.
I'm not sure what the answer is. Some times your dam if you do tell.
Am I not looking in the right place, where is the recipe page? I used
that when I ran out of things to make, there were good and easy recipes
on there, if you can, please put it back. If I'd known that you were
taking it away, I would have printed them all for future reference.
when I re-designed I didn't mean to leave it
Beth Moore Apr 20, 2005 Knoxville Airport
Waiting to board the plane: I had the Bible on my lap and was very
intent upon what I was doing. I'd had a marvelous morning with the Lord.
I say that because I want to tell you it is a scary thing to have the
Spirit of God really working in you. You could end up doing some things
you never would have done other-wise. Life in the Spirit can be
dangerous for a thousand reasons not the least of which is your ego. I
tried to keep from staring but he was such a strange sight. Humped over
in a wheelchair, he was skin and bones, dressed in clothes that
obviously fit when he was at least twenty pounds heavier. His knees
protruded from his trousers, and his shoulders looked like the
coat hanger was still in his shirt. His hands looked like tangled masses
of veins and bones. The strangest part of him was his hair and nails.
Stringy gray hair hung well over his shoulders and down part of his
back. His fingernails were long. Clean, but strangely out of place on an
old man. I looked down at my Bible as fast as I could, discomfort
burning my face. As I tried to imagine what his story might have been, I
found myself wondering if I'd just had a Howard Hughes sighting. Then, I
remembered that he was dead. So this man in the airport... an
impersonator maybe? Was a camera on us somewhere?.... There I sat trying
to concentrate on the Word to keep from being concerned about a thin
slice of humanity served on a wheelchair only a few seats from me. All
the while my heart was growing more and more overwhelmed with a feeling
for him. Let's admit it. Curiosity is a heap more comfortable than true
concern, and suddenly I was awash with aching emotion for this
bizarre-looking old man. I had walked with God long enough to see the
handwriting on the wall. I've learned that when I begin to feel what God
feels, something so contrary to my natural feelings, something dramatic
is bound to happen. And it may be embarrassing. I immediately began to
resist because I could feel God working on my spirit and I started
arguing with God in my mind. "Oh no, God please no." I looked up at the
ceiling as if I could stare straight through it into heaven and said,
"Don't make me witness to this man. Not right here and now. Please. I'll
do anything. Put me on the same plane, but don't make me get up here and
witness to this man in front of this gawking audience. Please,
Lord!"...There I sat in the blue vinyl chair begging His Highness,
"Please don't make me witness to this man. Not now. I'll do it on the
plane." Then I heard it..."I don't want you to witness to him. I want
you to brush his hair." The words were so clear, my heart leapt into my
throat, and my thoughts spun like a top. Do I witness to the man or
brush his hair? No brainer. I looked straight back up at the ceiling and
said, "God, as I live and breathe, I want you to know I am ready to
witness to this man. I'm on this Lord. I'm you're girl! You've never
seen a woman witness to a man faster in your life. What difference does
it make if his hair is a mess if he is not redeemed? I am on him. I am
going to witness to this man." Again as clearly as I've ever heard an
audible word, God seemed to write this statement across the wall of my
mind. " That is not what I said, Beth. I don't want you to witness to
him.
I want you to go brush his hair." I looked up at God and quipped, "I
don't have a hairbrush. It's in my suitcase on the plane, How am I
supposed to brush his hairbrush?"... God was so insistent that I almost
involuntarily began to walk toward him as these thoughts came to me from
God's word: "I will thoroughly furnish you unto all good works." (2 Tim
3:17) I stumbled over to the wheelchair thinking I could use one myself.
As I retell this story my pulse quickens and I feel those same
butterflies. I knelt down in front of the man, and asked as demurely as
possible, " Sir, may I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?" He
looked
back at me and said, "What did you say?" " May I have the pleasure of
brushing your hair? " To which he responded in volume ten, "Little lady,
if you expect me to hear you, you're going to have to talk louder than
that. " At this point, I took a deep breath and blurted out, "SIR, MAY I
HAVE THE PLEASURE OF BRUSHING YOUR HAIR?" At which point every eye in
the place darted right at me. I was the only thing in the room looking
more peculiar than old Mr. Longlocks. Face crimson and forehead breaking
out in a sweat, I watched him look up at me with absolute shock on his
face, and say, "If you really want to." Are you kidding? OF course I
didn't want to. But God didn't seem interested in my personal preference
right about then. He pressed on my heart until I could utter the words,
"Yes, sir, I would be pleased. But I have one little problem. I don't
have a hairbrush." I have one in my bag," he responded. I went around to
the back of that wheelchair, unzipped the stranger's old carry-on hardly
believing what I was doing. I stood up and started brushing the old
man's hair. It was perfectly clean, but it was tangled and matted. I
don't do many things well, but I must admit I've had notable experience
untangling knotted hair mothering two little girls. Like I'd done with
either Amanda or Melissa in such a condition, I began brushing at the
very bottom of the strands, remembering to take my time not to pull. A
miraculous thing happened to me as I started brushing that old man's
hair. Everybody else in the room disappeared. There was no one alive for
those moments except that old man and me. I brushed and I brushed and I
brushed until every tangle was out of I know this sounds so strange but
I've never felt that kind of love for another soul in my entire life. I
believe with all my heart, I for that few minutes - felt a portion of
the very love of God. That He had overtaken my heart for a little while
like someone renting a room and making Himself at home for a short
while. The emotions were so strong and so pure that I knew they had to
be God's. His hair was finally as soft and smooth as an infant's. I
slipped the brush back in the bag, went around the chair to face him. I
got back down on my knees, put my hands on his knees, and said, " Sir,
do
you know my Jesus?" He said, "Yes, I do." Well, that figures, I thought.
He explained, " I've known Him since I married my bride. She
wouldn't marry me until I got to know the Savior." He said, "You see,
the problem is, I haven' t seen my bride in months. I've had open-heart
surgery, and she's been too ill to come see me. I was sitting here
thinking to myself, what a mess I must be for my bride." This was one
of those rare encounters when I knew God had intervened in details only
He could have known. It was a God moment, and I'll never forget it. Our
time came to board, and we were not on the same plane. I was deeply
ashamed of how I'd acted earlier and would have been so proud to have
accompanied him on that aircraft. I still had a few minutes, and as I
gathered my things to board, the airline hostess returned from the
corridor, tears streaming down her cheeks. She said, "That old man's
sitting on the plane, sobbing. Why did you do that? What made you do
that?" I said, "Do you know Jesus? He can be the bossiest thing!" And we
got to share. I learned something about God that day. He knows if you're
exhausted because you're hungry, you're serving in the wrong place or it
is time to move on but you feel too responsible to budge. He knows if
you're hurting or feeling rejected. He knows if you're sick or drowning
under a wave of temptation. Or He knows if you just need your hair
brushed. He sees you as an individual. Tell Him your need! I got on my
own flight, sobs choking my throat, wondering how many opportunities
just like that one had I missed along the way... all because I didn't
want people to think I was strange. God didn't send me to that old man.
He sent that old man to me. John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and made
his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and
Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
I hope something can be done before there is a very bad accident like
there was when the new highway and bridge were built down the road a bit
at Rt. 288 and Rt. 65. It took a death there before that problem was
corrected.
I'm 26 years old and very familar with this area.
What new highway are you talking about? Do you mean when they repaved
part of Rt. 288?
We've lived in Frisco for 30 years and when they tore the old Frisco
Bridge down, most everyone called the 4 lane highway and Bridge going
from Ellwood to Franklin Plaza - "the new highway and Bridge". To our
knowledge it's the only new bridge and highway on Rt. 288 that
intersects with Rt. 65 and "is down the road a bit from the Franklin
Plaza Entrance near Giant Eagle."
Sorry for the confusion.
THEY ARE NOT TOYS, My father had a few guns and they were not locked up
or hidden , we knew not to touch them,we were educated in the use of
guns what to do and what not to do. I have never thought to use one as a
weapon against any human with the exception of my military tour of duty.
