Updated: July 29, 2010

• A theft of cash and a gold necklace was reported to police by Cindy Hogue, 53, of 536 Glen Ave., Ellwood City, on Monday, July 26 at 10:38 p.m. The victim said her dresser drawers were rummaged through. The necklace was valued at approximately $150 and there was about $250 in cash.

• A theft of a garage door opener was reported to police by Jennier Agnew, 28, of 1109 Fairview Ave., Ellwood City, on Monday, July 26 at 4:24 p.m. The victim told police that someone stole the opener from her 2003 GMC Envoy.

• A 14-year-old male was arrested for retail theft from the Dollar General at 1221 E. Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City, on Monday, July 26 at approximately 10 a.m. According to police, the suspect put a $100 Visa gift card in his front pocket and attempted to leave the store.

• Four 13-year-old juvenile males were charged with criminal mischief after hitting vehicles with paintballs on Sunday, July 25 at 3:25 p.m. on Fountain Avenue near First and Second St., Ellwood City. The boys hit four separate vehicles owned by: Darren Shilling, owner of a 2003 Ford Taurus; Robert Dietz, owner of a 2003 Nissan Altima; Anne Baldelli, owner of a 2002 Dodge Intrepid; Rachel Colella, owner of a 2005 Dodge Stratus.

• A theft of a Marine Corps ring was reported by Cindy Hogue, 53, of 536 Glen Ave., Ellwood City on Sunday, July 25 at 2:31 p.m. The victim reported that the ring was stolen from a bedroom; it was valued at approximately $300.

• Danielle Steighner, 27, of 1218 Beaver Ave., Ellwood City, was charged with public drunkenness on Sunday, July 25 at 2:20 a.m. after police saw the individual staggering down the street and yelling foul language at the 400 block of Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City.

• A burglary of numerous items totaling at a value of approximately $5,700 was reported by Brian Hannah, 34, of 1211 Center Ave., Ellwood City on Saturday, July 24 at 9:50 p.m. after someone entered his home through a rear window. The victim told police that between the hours of 6:15 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. the following items were stolen from his home: two iPods, a Dell Laptop, Xbox 360, Playstation 2, silver necklace, and Xbox and Playstation games and controllers.

• Criminal mischief to a vehicle was reported on Saturday, July 24 at 8:25 a.m. by Kelsey Lance, 19, of 1583 Mercer Rd., Ellwood City after the driver’s side window was busted out of her 1997 Pontiac Sunfire while it was parked at the 700 block of Lawrence Avenue, causing approximately $300 in damage. Her vehicle was also rummaged through, but nothing was taken.

• Misty McKim, 26, of P.O. Box 7621, New Castle, was arrested on Friday, July 23 in the Loop Street area from two outstanding warrants out of Lawrence County on receiving stolen property and retail theft.

• A man was found assaulted at Fifth Street and Spring Avenue in Ellwood City on Friday, July 23 at 3:01 a.m. John Larzar, 60, of 2612 Old Rt. 18, Wampum, was found bleeding from two lacerations on his head, but was unable to provide much information to police because he was too intoxicated, according to police. He was transported to the Ellwood City Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

• A gunshot hole was found in a window at My House Bar on Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City on Friday, July 23 at 1:51 a.m. and police recovered a bullet. The next day, police found a gun at the 400 block of Loop St., Ellwood City, but said they are waiting on forensic evidence to connect to two.

• Jamie McGuire, 21, of 515 Park Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for simple assault and public drunkenness after a fight that occurred at Weisz Hazel Manor on Thursday, July 8 at 1 a.m. According to police, a fight between McGuire and a Chad Wiley, 23, of Wurtemburg Rd., Ellwood City, began inside the bar and progressed outside. Police also said that Robert Boyle, 51, of Dutch Ridge Rd., Ellwood City, attempted to break up the fight and was punched in the face by McGuire, breaking the victim’s nose.

• China Graham, 20, last known address of 506 9th St., Ellwood City, was arrested by police on Friday, July 9 at 8:51 a.m. for multiple warrants out of Lawrence and Beaver County. Police had been looking for Graham since a string of incidents in 2009.

• Tiffany Murphy, 29, of 203 State Ave., Ellwood City, was cited for harassment on Thursday, July 8 at 10:45 p.m. after she assaulted a 40-year-old female attempting to leave Breakers Pub. According to police, the individual punched the victim, knocking her down causing a contusion on her head.

• Christine Patterson, 36, of 805 Crescent Ave. (Apt. 3), Ellwood City, was arrested on Thursday, July 8 at 8:21 a.m. from an outstanding warrant dating back to an incident on May 9, 2010 when she, along with Alan Patterson, 40, attempted to break into a residence.

• Tammy Herb, 36, of 427 Epworth St., New Castle, was arrested on Wednesday, July 7 from an outstanding warrant issued on May 26 from an incident on Woodside Ave., Ellwood City, when the individual gave police the wrong identity for a DUI, speeding, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Herb was also charged with providing false ID to law enforcement and forgery. The individual is being held on a $25,000 bond.

• Darrell Milton, 26, of 814 W. Washington St., New Castle, was cited for disorderly conduct on Wednesday, July 7 at 6:10 p.m. for causing a disturbance at Veterans Memorial Swimming Pool in Ewing Park. According to police, the individual was giving a life guard a hard time, was using obscene language, and came out of the locker room in only his underwear. The individual was asked to leave several times but failed to do so.

• Randall Hall, 53, of 101 Cedar St., Ellwood City, was arrested on Wednesday, July 7 at 9:59 a.m. on an outstanding warrant from Butler and Allegheny County. Police were originally called to the individual’s residence for illegally tampering with an electric meter, and that is when police noticed he had warrants from other counties.

• A phone was reported stolen by Mallory Meehan of 212 Foch St., Ellwood City on Monday, July 5 at 11:55 a.m. She noticed her Verizon Droid cellular phone (valued at approximately $350) missing at around 5:35 p.m. July 4.

• An 11-year-old female was assaulted by a known individual on Monday, July 5 at 5:15 p.m. at her resident on Bridge St., Ellwood City. The simple assault victim was treated at the Ellwood City Hospital for minor injuries to her shoulder.

• Jewelry was reported stolen by Valerie Shablesky of 713 Summit Ave., Ellwood City on Monday, July 5 at noon. The victim told police that her son had two friends at the residence on July 2 and two rings (valued at approximately $400 and $250) turned up missing. Police are still investigating the incident.

• Justin DiFrischia, 26, last known address of 211 Line Ave., Ellwood City, was cited by police three times in 24 hours for numerous charges. On Saturday, July 3 at 9:40 a.m., the individual was cited with criminal trespass and two counts of harassment for being at a residence on Haig St., Ellwood City where he was not allowed – he was released. Later on Saturday at 11:14 p.m., the individual returned to the same location and was cited with criminal trespass and public drunkenness – he was released. Just after midnight, the individual returned once again to the residence and was cited with trespass – he was taken into custody. DiFrischia was arraigned in front of District Judge Scott McGrath and placed in the Lawrence County Jail with a $10,000 bond.

• Michael Newton, 28, of 616 Franklin Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Saturday, July 3 at 2:07 a.m. after police noticed him failing to stop at a stop sign at the corner of 4th Street and Lawrence Avenue. The individual was also charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct when he became combative with officers at the hospital after the blood-alcohol test. Police were forced to use a Taser on the individual.

• Ellwood City Police issued two warnings to separate individuals for burning on Saturday, June 26 at locations on Park Avenue and Hillside Avenue in Ellwood City.

• Robert Lee Harris, 30, of 408 Loop St., Ellwood City, was cited for an open container just after midnight on Saturday, June 26 for having an open bottle of Colt 45 beer.

• Maricar Duncan, 38, of 602 Taylor St., New Castle, was cited for criminal trespass on Friday, June 25 at 7:10 p.m. after police were called to a disturbance at the residence of 516 Loop St., Ellwood City. According to the report, the individual was asked to leave the premises several times by the tenant.

• Roberto Morales, 40, of 409 Wampum Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday, June 25 at 1:36 a.m. According to police, the individual was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed.

• Sage Boariu, 18, of 113 Line Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance on Thursday, June 24 at 6:33 p.m. at Kids Created Kingdom in Ewing Park after police observed the individual drop an object that contained a small amount of marijuana.

• Shawn Knechtel, 41, of 224 Wampum Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass on Wednesday, June 23 at 6:32 a.m. for pounding on the door at the residence of 531 Glen Ave., Ellwood City.

• A burglary occurred at Good Wheels, 1019 Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City, sometime between Monday, June 21 and Tuesday, June 22 from 9:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. According to police, the individual(s) may have gained entry using a screw driver. Approximately $500 in cash was taken from the business.

• Michael Evanick, 55, of 151 Woodward Dr., Ellwood City, was arrested by warrant on Wednesday, June 23 for theft by deception and bad checks. According to police, the individual issued a check of $3,745 to Mr. B’s Law Service on May 27. The check bounced due to a closed account. A complaint was filed by Mr. B’s on June 8 after the individual failed to make the account good.

• Charles Joseph Walls, 18, of 532 Glen Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for rape and sexual assault on Tuesday, June 22 at 1:38 p.m. after allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old girl on Thursday, June 17. Walls was arraigned in front of Magistrate Jerry Cartwright Jr. and placed in the Lawrence County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

• A burglary of a gray 2010 Dodge Challenger RT was reported from Kasing Auto Sales on Sunday, June 20 just before 6 p.m. after they noticed a man-door opened at the rear of the building on Beaver Ave., Ellwood City. The vehicle was valued at approximately $33,500.

• A burglary from the Ellport Junction, 104 Portersville Rd., Ellwood City, was reported to police via a security motion alarm that was triggered on Sunday, June 20 at approximately 4:55 a.m. Ellwood City Police arrived at the scene and found the front door’s glass smashed in and cigarettes scattered on the floor. They are continuing to investigate.

• Two 16-year-old males were issued curfew citations on Sunday, June 20 at 4:06 a.m. on Pershing Street near Woodside Avenue in Ellwood City. They were given citations and released to their parents.

• Jerome Brynt, 21, of 6200 6th Ave. (Apt. 2), Koppel, was arrested on Thursday, June 17 at 10:55 a.m. for two marijuana cigarettes and four bags of marijuana found in his vehicle after he was originally stopped for an expired inspection sticker on Lawrence Ave., near 11th St., Ellwood City. Police also removed cash and brass knuckles from the vehicle.

• Troy Hockenberry, 28, of Ellwood City, was cited for public drunkenness and criminal mischief on Wednesday, June 16 at 10:10 p.m. after a report of the individual breaking glass at Tony’s Distributing Company, 125 College St., Ellwood City. Police found the individual at the south end of the 5th St. Bridge and detected an odor of alcohol. Witnesses identified the individual as the person who was breaking glass.

• Kevin Simmons, 19, of 105 Jackson Way, Ellwood City, was charged with endangering welfare of children, reckless endangerment, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and underage drinking on Sunday, June 13 at 4:34 p.m. near the Rite Aid on 5th Street, Ellwood City after an alleged assault of ex-girlfriend Rachel Levine, 18, of West Middlesex.

• Samuel Gipson, 22, of 329 Crescent Ave., New Castle, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Sunday, June 13 at 2:14 a.m. on Woodside Ave., Ellwood City after he was driving his 1998 Cadillac in an erratic manner.

• April Samsa, 34, of 500 Park Ave., Ellwood City, was charged with public drunkenness after she was involved in an altercation with another individual on Saturday, June 12 at 2:16 a.m.

• Jodi Vankirk, 33, of 311 10th St., Ellwood City and George Robert McCullough II, 42, of the same address were both charged with disorderly conduct on Friday, June 11 at 9:38 p.m. after a disturbance at the residence of 612 Wayne Ave., Ellwood City.

• Three male juveniles, age 15, 16, and 17, were charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass on Thursday, June 10 at 9:07 p.m. after they were caught damaging parts of Kids Created Kingdom in Ewing Park.

• Brent Hill, 20, of 411 ½ North St., Ellwood City, was charged with harassment on Saturday, June 5 at 1:05 a.m. after he allegedly shoved and head butted Alexander Harris, 25, of 612 4th St., Ellwood City at the 7-Eleven on North St., Ellwood City.

• Charges will be filed to a known 29-year-old male who trespassed on the property of Bruce Benedum, 58, of 814 Pershing St., Ellwood City on Friday, June 4 at 3:00 a.m. The individual was advised not to be on the property of the victim.

• Charges are pending by summons to a known 46-year-old male who allegedly assaulted Anthony Ferrente, 45, of 902 Crescent Ave., Ellwood City on Thursday, June 3 at 3:55 p.m. According to reports, Ferrente was walking with a friend near the residence of 224 Wampum Ave., Ellwood City when a known individual began punching him on the left side of the face, causing injuries to the neck and cheek bone area.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported on Saturday, May 29 at 8:19 p.m. by Brent Stein, 31, of 212 Line Ave., Ellwood City after someone entered his vehicle and took an I-pod charger valued at $50.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported on Saturday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. by Raymond Nichols of 209 Line Ave., Ellwood City after someone entered his vehicle and took three CDs valued at $40.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported on Saturday, May 29 at 10:24 a.m. by Brian Shurtz of 520 Line Ave., Ellwood City after an item was taken valued at approximately $250.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported on Saturday, May 29 at 9:44 a.m. by Brian Mann, 39, of 718 Bridge St., Ellwood City after his 2004 Jeep Liberty’s door was found open but nothing was missing.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported on Saturday, May 29 by Joseph Weisz of 521 Hazen Ave., Ellwood City after several electronics were taken from his 2006 Jeep Cherokee.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported on Saturday, May 29 at 2:10 a.m. by Christopher Walters, 25, and Ashley Walters, 24, of 834 Bridge St., Ellwood City after they were alarmed by dogs barking and found their doors open. The vehicle was rummaged through and about $20 of change was taken.

• Tammy Lynn Herb, 37, of 427 Epworth St., New Castle, was arrested for driving under the influence of narcotics Wednesday, May 26 at 6:44 p.m. while driving on Woodside Ave., Ellwood City. She will also be charged with giving the officer a false name, as she provided police with her daughter’s name.

• Jennifer Orock, 43, of 119 Gulf Ave., Ellport, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol Wednesday, May 26 at 1 p.m. while driving on Fountain Ave., Ellwood City.

Click It or Ticket
• The Ellwood City Police took part in a national effort to crack down on non-seatbelt wearers during a two-day “Click It or Ticket” safety campaign on May 25 and 26 in which the police gave approximately 12 seatbelt citations.

• Ryan McCandless, 28, of 852 Sewickley St., Ellwood City, was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct after an incident that occurred on Friday, May 14 when he allegedly punched Henry Jance, 22, of Fombell in the face, breaking his nose. The incident occurred on Line Avenue near Allen Way in Ellwood City.

• A 14-year-old male juvenile was transported to the Krause Youth Shelter in New Castle on Friday, May 21 at 6:54 p.m. for leaving his home while on house arrest.

• A 17-year-old male juvenile was arrested for retail theft on Thursday, May 20 at 1:35 p.m. after he was caught stealing comic books from New Dimension Comics on Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City.

• Richard Lumley, 40, of 332 Rear Orchard Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for driving under the influence on Wednesday, May 19 at 1:57 a.m. after his motorcycle was found dropped on the roadway. Police detected a smell of alcohol on the individual as well as other signs that showed he was intoxicated. He was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital for blood tests and was released to a family member.

• Alan Patterson, 40, of 319 Croton Ave., New Castle, was arrested on Monday, May 17 at 4:15 p.m. for criminal attempt to trespass and criminal mischief after a May 9 incident involving the attempted break-in of an Ellwood City residence. Patterson was immediately confronted and told to get out by Sam Wallace, the owner of the residence, at which point he called police. The accused is being held on a $5,000 bond at the Lawrence County Jail.

• Glenn Ford, 57, of 1132 Main St., Ellwood City, was arrested on Monday, May 17 at 10 a.m. on an outstanding warrant for failure to register on the Megan’s Law Registry. According to police, Ford moved out of his previous residence in 2007 and failed to register with the state police; he is being held on a $2,500 bond.

• George Robert McCullough II, 43, of 311 10th St., Ellwood City, was charged with retail theft at the Dollar General store on Lawrence Avenue on Sunday, May 16 at 3:37 p.m. Police apprehended McCullough on Center Avenue and recovered numerous cosmetic items valued at approximately $10.

• A 15-year-old female and 14-year-old female were cited for violating the curfew law on Sunday, May 16 at 2:53 a.m. at the 1200 block of Lawrence Ave., Ellwood City. They were cited and released to their parents.

• Gerald Lee Orock Jr., 52, of 720 Lawrence Ave., Apt. 3, Ellwood City, was charged with simple assault, harassment, and possession of small amounts of marijuana after an incident on Saturday, May 15 at 1:08 a.m. at his home. Authorities said he punched Lisa Jones, 36, of the same address, in the face causing swelling. Officers also found a small amount of marijuana in Orock's possession. Orock is being held on a $5,000 bond at the Lawrence County Jail.

• A 17-year-old male juvenile was arrested for disorderly conduct at 6:36 p.m. on Sunday, May 9 at 236 4th St., Ellwood City after police were called to seven juveniles smoking marijuana; police did not find any marijuana and the other juveniles were released to their parents.

• Justin McQuiston, 26, of 1427 State Rt. 588, Fombell, was arrested for public drunkenness at 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 9 after he was found passed out on the toilet at the Uni-Mart on Beaver Ave., Ellwood City. The accused was later found to be wanted out of Beaver County for an outstanding warrant; he was turned over to the Beaver County Sheriff.

• A burglary was reported at the residence of Pete Maietta, 512 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City at 3:17 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 after the victim noticed Purple Heart military award missing. According to reports, the individual may have entered through a small window pushed open. The item stolen was previously recovered by police and identified by the victim.

• Timothy Ruffin, 45, of 95 Maple Ave., Washington PA, was arrested for driving under the influence, driving under suspension (DUI related), and driving without insurance at 3:55 a.m. on Friday, May 7. Police responded to a cell phone call that a man was tailgating as he was coming from Koppel to Ellwood City. Patrol stopped the vehicle and it was determined that the individual was intoxicated.

• A 14-year-old male juvenile was arrested for retail theft at 7-11 in Ellwood City at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 after police were responding to a juvenile fleeing the store with items. Witnesses told police where the individual fled. Police found the juvenile behind the residence of 427 Wampum Ave., Ellwood City, along with four other individuals, including a 14-year-old female, 15-year-old male, and two 19-year-old males, all who of which were intoxicated. All the individuals were charged with underage drinking and one individual was charged with retail theft.

• Alan Patterson, 40, of 311 10th St., Ellwood City and Christine Patterson, 36, of 221 5th St., Ellwood City, were arrested for public drunkenness after police observed the couple stumbling down Bell Ave., Ellwood City on Sunday, May 2, at 7:55 p.m.

• A theft was reported at the residence of Susan Kozora, 32, of 606 Smiley St., Ellwood City on Sunday, May 2, at 5:42 p.m. Removed from the residence was a ring (valued at $300) and a carton of cigarettes (valued at $50).

• Terrance Shelby, 25, of 601 Division Ave., Ellwood City, was arrested for criminal trespass and disorderly conduct on Saturday, May 1, at 4:47 p.m. after police were called to fight between two males on Loop St., Ellwood City.

• Susan Hogue, 23, of 434 Loop St., Ellwood City, was arrested for robbery and theft by unlawful taking just after midnight on Saturday, May 1. According to reports, Hogue met with Troy Hockenberry, 28, of Ellwood City in order to borrow $5, but subsequently stole $20 from the victim. Police found Hogue at Kwik Fill in Franklin Township. She was arraigned in front of Magistrate Nicholson and is being held on a $1,000 bond.

• Tiffany Nunez, 25, of 438 Loop St., Ellwood City, was arrested for aggravated assault on Friday, April 30, at 4:50 p.m. after police found the victim, Donald Ostrom II, 25, of 707 Fairview Ave., Ellwood City, with stab wounds allegedly from a pair of scissors. Austrum went to the Ellwood City Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Nunez was arraigned in front of Magistrate Nicholson and is being held on a $1,000 bond.

• Susan Hogue, 23, of 434 Loop St., Ellwood City, was charged with simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct and Ja-Raye Sloan, 30, of 1001 3rd Ave., Beaver Falls, was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct after they assaulted Ramona Cornelius, 56, of 427 Loop St., Ellwood City on Friday, April 30, at 3:53 p.m. According to witnesses, the two suspects fled into the woods after a fight that occurred on Loop Street. Allegedly, Sloan threatened and pushed the victim and Hogue proceeded to punch the victim in the eye. Both suspects were apprehended shortly after police were called to the incident.
