Abby Annette (Mylin) Foley, 41, of 41 Penns Landing, Selinsgrove, passed away peacefully in the arms of her f amily at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, where she had been a patient since August.
She was born June 23, 1967, in Lancaster, the daughter of Barbara and John C. Mylin IV, who survive. In addition to her parents, of New Columbia, she is survived by a sister, Carla Hornback, of Berwick; and brother, John C. Mylin V, of Bloomsburg, and his wife, Miriam; nieces Katherine Hornback, of Williamsburg, Va.; Margaret Ruth Mylin, of Bloomsburg; and Sara and Jessica Schombert, of Ellwood City; and nephew John C. Mylin VI, of Bloomsburg, all of whom she loved dearly.
Abby is also survived by her husband, William V. Foley, formerly of Ellwood City, whom she married Sept. 28, 1991. She is also survived by her father- and mother-in-law, William D. and Rita A. Foley of Ellwood City; brothers-in-law Robert, Neil and Daniel Foley of Ellwood City; Sean Foley of Tarentum; and sister-in-law Renee Schombert of Ellwood City.
Abby attended schools in the Mifflinburg Area School District. She graduated in 1985 from Mifflinburg Area High School, and in 1989 from Lock Haven University, where she wrote a humor column for the student newspaper and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication. She ran cross-country and played field hockey at both schools, and completed numerous marathons, winning her age bracket on several occasions.
Abby was a reporter for The Daily Item newspaper in Sunbury between October 1989 and June 1996. Her Sunday humor column, published weekly in The Daily Item between 1990 and 1996, won two Keystone Awards from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association but, more importantly to Abby, attracted a large and loyal following.
Abby loved flowers, especially lilacs and tiger lilies. She also loved the ocean, and riding her bike along the pine-tree lined paths near Currituck Sound, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where she honeymooned and often vacationed with her husband.
Abby studied literature in college and was an avid reader and book collector. She enjoyed poetry and fiction earlier in life, and nonfiction more recently. She also enjoyed black-and-white photography, Aubrey Hepburn movies and the culinary arts. She also painted, sketched and made crafts.
Abby loved the outdoors, being in the sunshine.
And she brought that sunshine into the lives of those who knew her.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City. A Mass of Christian burial, officiated by the Rev. Lou Pascazi, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Church, 300 Crescent Ave., Ellwood City.
Abby will rest at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Ellwood City.
A Christian memorial service to celebrate Abby’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at St. Pius X Church, Selinsgrove, with the Rev. Ted Keating officiating.

Tom J. Gorgas, age 42, of 221 Oswald St., Chewton passed away at the Ellwood City Hospital Emergency Room on Thursday December 25, 2008 at 3:25 am.
Tom was born on January 16, 1966 in Ellwood City to the Late Walter R. "Wally" Gorgas, who passed away on December 31, 1998, and Karla Zikeli Gorgas of Chewton.
Catholic by faith , Tom graduated from the Lawrence County Vo-Tech in 1984 having studied industrial electricity. As an electrician he had worked for Claws Electric of New Castle, Rubino Electric of Ellwood City, and was presently employed with the I.B.W. Local 712 out of Beaver Falls since 1999 as a journeyman.
Tom was a member of Boy Scout Troop 853 and had earned his Eagle Scout Award. Also, he was a member of The Polish White Eagle serving presently as a Trustee, and a past member of the Chewton V.F.D., & Ellwood City Saxons Club. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar racing, and loved his German Sheperd "Jean".
Survivors include Tom's wife, Lori Biddle Gorgas, whom he married on March 14, 1998, his mother, Karla Zikeli Gorgas of Chewton, a sister, Stephanie Borroni of Ellport , and one niece, Emily Borroni also of Ellport.
Tom was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents , Karl & Doris Zikeli, paternal grandparents, Walter S. & Esther Gorgas, and a uncle, James T. Gorgas.
Visitation will be held on Sunday December 28, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and on Monday from 10 - 11 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc..
Services for Tom J. Gorgas will be held on Monday December 29, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Peggy Suhr-Barkley officiating. Internment will follow at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
