Lady Panthers score a big win

After not winning at Neshannock since Coach John Wolf has been the head coach, it was evident that the Riverside Lady Panthers were going to do everything in their power to shatter that streak as they doubled Neshannock 54-27 Monday night.
Following tip off, which Leah Prisuta won, it was noticeable that it was going to be a one sided game as the Panthers quickly began scoring. Neshannock senior Courtney Frengel had to leave the game with an ankle injury. She is the team’s leading scorer and was heavily missed by the Lancers.
After a Prisuta buzzard beating three-pointer at the end of the first half, the Lady Panthers had a 15-point lead over the Lancers, 31-16. Prisuta managed to score 15 points in the first half, only scoring one more foul shot in the second.
Defense was the key to the Riverside win, as they didn’t give Neshannock many opportunities to score. Throughout the game there was taunting from the Lancer’s fan section that only fueled the Panthers. Many of the Riverside players clapped and cheered back in excitement; perhaps this is the reasoning for the blowout that occurred.
Prisuta was the leading scorer with 16 points, while Amy Gatnarek was right behind her with 15 points. The Panthers made 12 of 15 free throws, only missing three in the final period.
The Riverside Lady Panthers, now 7-4 overall, will host New Brighton on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
