ECO staff - Eric Johnson, Student Journalist
The famous Red Barn Theater opens once again to
provide society with a slither of talented people within the county.
Established in 1955, The Red Barn Players recently celebrated their Golden
Anniversary. Fifty years of bringing live plays and musicals to Western
Pennsylvania audiences. Their completely volunteer community theatre is
located in the beautiful Red Barn Theatre in the pastoral Pennsylvania
countryside on Route 288 between Ellwood City and Zelienople.
The Players offer a new production each month throughout the summer. Come
out to enjoy a relaxing and enchanting evening of live entertainment. 2008
season tickets can be purchased for $38.00 through June 21, 2008. Individual
tickets for Plays can be purchased for $10.00, Musicals for $12.00. Reserved
tickets not claimed by 7:45 p.m. the evening of the performance are subject
to sale.
The 2008 play season is from June through October. The Barn has a seating
capacity of 182. Reservations are made through a 24-hour a day telephone
service (724) 773-7150. The organization is a non-profit group, with
non-paid personnel. All are volunteers. Plays run for three weekends.
Regular plays run 9 nights; first week, Friday and Saturday; second week,
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and third week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
and Saturday. Musicals run 10 nights; also Wednesday’s second and third
weeks. Show time is 8:00 p.m.
This year the theaters first production will be that of a musical called “
Nunsensation”. This musical comedy by Dan Goggins follows the nuns or
sisters on an adventure to Viva Las Vegas. A parishioner volunteers to
donate $10,000 to the sister’s school only if they will perform in a club in
Las Vegas. With Mother Superior questioning this offer, the other nuns
convince her that “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. Finally getting
her to accept the offer, the audience will follow the sisters on their
musically enriched adventure through the big city.
