When thinking of working out, the normal thought
that comes to mind is “Oh, I don’t want to,” "I can't, I'm busy," or maybe “This
isn’t fun”. Well dread exercising no more! Starting this Saturday May 3rd, Fun
’n Fit is sponsoring a fun filled fitness training session to help raise money
for Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. These sessions will be continued
every Saturday in the month of May.
The training sessions will begin each Saturday in
May at 10:00 A.M. Participants will meet inside Ewing Park near the tennis
courts. This event will begin with an energetic walk on the nature trail located
inside the local Ewing Park. For participants that will be unable to journey
along for the 10:00 A.M nature walk, they are more than welcome to join in the
fun at pavilion #8 at 10:20 A.M. During the 10:20 A.M. time period, Fun’n Fit
instructor and owner Nathalie Kuffer will be hosting numerous fitness
techniques. Some of these various techniques include pilates, yoga, and
stretching.
Participants will also be working their cardio vascular,
flexibility, and strength, in a hope to reach all fitness components. Having no
attendance limit, coordinator Nathalie states, “the more the merrier”. The
overall amount of money collected hopes to be between $500 and $1,000.
Participating in this event if completely free but
donations are welcome in any amount. 100% of proceeds will be agreed in going
towards the Susan G. Komen foundation. This foundation hopes to eliminate the
increasing number in breast cancer around the world. Statistics show that this
year over 180,000 women will be diagnosed with the life threatening breast
cancer.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation was founded on a promise made between two sisters – Susan Goodman
Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978,
a time when little was known about the disease and it was rarely discussed in
public. Before she died at age 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything
possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by
establishing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982 in Suzy's
memory. More than 20 years later, the Komen Foundation is a global leader in the
fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and
community-based outreach programs.
Starting this Saturday and every Saturday in the
month of May after that, come out to Ewing park to have fun, get fit, and lower
that increasing number in women diagnosed with breast cancer. If there are any
questions, contact Fun’N Fit coordinator Nathalie Kuffer at (724) 290-7172.
