Wastewater plant praised by State and Borough

8:55 AM - On Monday, the Borough of Ellwood City Wastewater Treatment Facility was recognized at the Council meeting for being one of the top facilities in Pennsylvania.
The Ellwood City facility was given the PWEA Mark B. Hannum Plant Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award by the state of Pennsylvania for a number of performance areas.
This award is given to facilities that are publicly-owned treatment works (POTW) that have demonstrated outstanding performance in compliance, maintenance management, financial management, innovative practices, laboratory management, personnel training, pretreatment and industrial waste management, and sludge handling and disposal.
The Ellwood City Wastewater Treatment Facility was constructed in 2007 and serves the community’s 90 year old collection system.
In addition to their highly organized operation and maintenance, they were also recognized for their in-house fabrication of skimming devices, a lift for their sewer camera, grating and lighting, and several stair systems. They were also recognized for their educational outreach and community involvement efforts by conducting plant tours.
The plant staff consists of Rhonda L. Zellhart, Operations Manager; Michelle R. Hand, Laboratory Technician; James Spielvogel, Operator I/Forman; Steve Beaver, Operator I; Louis Nocera, Operator II; Darrell Hunt, Operator II; Christopher Cioffi, Operator II.
