Pittsburgh Steelers at Riverside tonight
Wednesday, March 3, 2010
Jon-Paul Wimer, senior journalist
10:45 AM - Earning a total of six Super Bowl rings over the years and being a part of the City of Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers have become a large part of our lives in western Pennsylvania.
Now, these footballers (temporarily turned basketballers) are coming to Riverside High School tonight to take on a group of locals, including two RHS staff and famed individuals.
The game will begin at 8 p.m. with doors opening and preliminary events at 6:30. Admission is $7 and at least seven members of the current Steelers’ roster will play in the game. The Steelers will participate in an autograph session set-up at halftime of the game.
Girls basketball coach John Wolf and guidance counselor Ben Huth are the Riverside staff members participating in the game. Also, B.E. Taylor, B.C. Taylor, Dan Taylor, Steve Hansen (WDVE), Rick Witkowski, Dominic Panucci, and Bert Laughton Jr. are participating in the game.
Although the Steelers who will play is undetermined, the Steelers who have participated in the past were Ben Roethlisberger, Charlie Batch, James Harrison, Chris Hoke, and many more. One rumor surfacing is that Hines Ward may be a baller tonight at Riverside.
Tickets to see the Pittsburgh Steelers Basketballers are still available in the Riverside High School office until 2 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Proceeds of the event go to the Riverside Girls Softball team. Stay tuned to EllwoodCity.org for pictures from the event.
