Career Fair to be held in Ellwood City Monday, February 22, 2010 9:55 AM - State Representative Jaret Gibbons is sponsoring a Career Fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 at the Sons of Italy in Ellwood City. “Many people in our community are searching for a job or trying to find a better job," Gibbons said. “This free event will be a great opportunity for them to get information in one place about job openings and valuable advice for improving their employment search skills.” Local experts on finding a job will offer seminars about how to effectively search for work, methods for writing an effective resume and tips for a successful job interview. The seminars are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. “The response from businesses and the educational community has been tremendous,” Gibbons said. “More than 30 organizations will be there to offer information and answer questions. Attendees will be able to meet with representatives from several local colleges and technical schools to learn about opportunities to advance their education or talk with area businesses and unions about who is hiring and employment options.” Gibbons said representatives from the state's local CareerLink offices in Beaver and Lawrence counties will be there to explain the numerous services those offices offer to help people find jobs. “With unemployment ranging from 7.5 to 9.7 percent in this area, we are not immune from the global recession,” said Gibbons. “I hope by bringing representatives from the business and education sectors together in a single location, I can help job seekers get the skills they need to effectively search for a job and do their best in a job interview.” Gibbons said the event is co-sponsored by the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce.
