Baby Boomer Evolution |

|
The generation of baby boomers is incredible. They single handedly shaped and influenced almost every aspect of our culture; from education, to recreation, from politics, to economics. They witnessed and sculpted the change in lifestyle, technology and standards. I’d say they set the bar pretty high for us Generation X’ers. We have big shoes to fill. It is no surprise to anyone that the Baby Boomers are in control of their lives and to some extent, the lives of future generations. Statistically, they are now between the ages of 42 and 60 and according to Paul Zane Pilzer, author of “The new Wellness Revolution” baby boomers monopolize approximately one seventh of our economy. Furthermore, American Demographics states that they will gain $280 billion in disposable income during the next few years. And in the past, Boomers determined the trends and needs of their generation and they continue to influence the modern day trends and needs. Clearly, they are in their peak earning years. They have more independence than their predecessors. They earned their legacy in more ways than one. They know what they want, when they want it and how they want it. They thrive on convenience… heck they invented it! If you think about it, they are the generation who helped companies like FedEx and Domino’s delivery thrive. They’ve seen it all, they have it all and they want it all. Unfortunately, in many cases, the one thing they don’t have is great health. According to data from the National Institute on Aging, studies shows that “boomers born between 1948 and 1953 were less likely than their parents to describe their health as "very good" or "excellent," and they were more likely to report difficulties with routine activities, such as walking a short distance or lifting 10 pounds”. The list of detrimental conditions and disabilities caused by inactivity and poor eating habits are too long to enumerate. This can be a sad reality had the baby boomer not molded their civilization into proactive go-getters. Fortunately, there now exists options to getting and staying in shape that are appealing to every generation. Alternatives that they themselves have somewhat had a hand in developing. Thanks to the trends they’ve set for us, wellness is now a service that can be catered to anyone’s doorstep. Baby boomers have set the standards so high that convenience is expected with quality services. Therefore, the new “thing” in wellness practices is the ability to cater to client needs by becoming a mobile service. Health at your doorstep is a commodity that we all have to look forward to. No matter how much we’re progressed as a nation, no matter your age or fitness level, it is never too late and you are never too old to be well. Taking advantage of services that cater to specific wellness needs (fitness, nutrition consultation, weight loss, etc) by having them at your preferred location, now that’s the power of evolution.
