new format of the "Ellwood City Ledger" It has as much local news as is
submited to them and the stories on the locals is great, They have more
reporters then the previous owners and are able time wise to write personal
articilies. Must we all be negitive in thought on everything about our town.
I think Mark, Eric and Mary Ann are doing a great job.I also like the color
they are using. The Web site is everything you could ask for and more. Now
on another subject "BOVA" how refreshing to see our younger merchants take a
great deal of pride and interest in our main street. I hope you all
participate in all of their events. I personally am looking forward to the
Christmas Light up and open house. Don't forget there is a great shop under
the subway that few know about it is Condition Mint, I was in one day last
week and her choice of merchadise is so original and afforable, and her fall
wreaths are "kno!
ck your socks off" I am looking forward to seeing her Christmas pieces.and
Blochers are carrying the same designer pieces.Aren't we all excited about
the new Christmas decorations that "BOVA" is doing for "US" With the people
involved in the selecting they have to be great. I don't think the other
ones had much thought behind them. I am sooo glad to be part of this small
town. Been there done that. and this is the place to be. The grass is never
greener on the other side, beleive me. I have been there. Right now my
daughter is cleaning up after the hurricane, I am grateful we do not have to
do the same.

Comments: Wow, were do I start!! I was very excited when I found this site.
Glad to see the photos from the 2005 festival. That is one of the things I
miss about home. Let see other things I miss about Ellwood...VINNY Pizza,
Elport roller rink, the Ellwood-Riverside football games, being around
people who care, etc. I could go on and on.
I have not been to Ellwood in probably, 14 years. I graduated from Riverside
High school in 1985 and would LOVE to hear from anyone from the class of 84,
85, 86.
Ellwood is a great place to live, even with its problems. There are worse
places and I never thought in my life time I would ever consider moving back
home, but I think about it now and then. Don't get me wrong I love
Jacksonville and have been welcomed here since 1989, but there is no place
like Ellwood City. I did not come home for my classes last reunion and now
wish I had.
If you know anyone from the class of 85, please tell them to email me, I
would love to catch up. I would also love to hear from anyone who enjoys
doing family history.
I have an extensive collection of Nye history as I am a descendant of Andrew
Rose Nye who was one of the first settlers to the Ellwood City area. Along
with the Nyes came the Mains and the Mathenys. If you would like to get some
family history on anyone connected to Andrew Rose Nye and his children check
out www.main-family.com. Althought the site is dedicated to Philip Main's
family, you can't exclude the Nye or Matheny families because they are all
interrelated. I am also doing family history on Joseph Jacobs' family,
Heyward Ritter's family, some other names that I am researching are the
Hartzels, Piersols, Stillys, Graffs, Gerwigs, Tunney, I could go on but I
wont.
To my old friends, I am sorry that I did not keep in touch. Please email me

I miss you...email me or call me...cousins and friends should not have let
this many years go by. Cheryl Lutz (Bonzo)...I am so sorry, please forgive

horses for a friend, and in the process, I referred to the internet for
ideas and tips on making the task simpler. One of the websites I happened
across was The Ellwood Mansion, which natually caught my attention. I had
never heard of Isaac Ellwood and had no idea that he was one of the
inventors of barbed wire nor that there was a city in Pa. named for him.

First of all, to all of our men and women fighting bullies overseas, my
prayers go out for all of you. My son, Joshua (Hamon) Rennels will be
deployed 1-10-05 to Iraq from Fort Benning, GA, 3rd infantry. He leaves
behind his wife, Ronaile (Kraynak), their son Cameron, and one 'on the way'.
I am very proud of Josh for his choices. And I am very proud of Ronaile for
supporting him! I support all of you in all branches of service for

sister and mother graduated from lhs. my father had many "buddies". and i
miss the friends i grew up and went to school with year after year. if

wonderful town in which to spend my childhood and I only have happy,
cherished memories of it. After moving to Washington state in '81, I have
been back a few times to visit. This time, however, I get to bring my new
baby girl Brooke who I cannot wait to introduce to my grandparents Vera and
Abe Pratt and my Aunt Christine Hutchison along with my Uncle Hutch and
cousins Jodi, Holly and Kyle. It should be a lot of fun. My husband Raymond
and I plan to go to the Pirates game on 7/29. The Pirates are in an entirely
different league than our Seattle Mariners (who are doing poorly this year)
so it'll be a nice change. We can't wait to see the new stadium. Anyway, I
look forward to my visit as Ellwood will always have a special place in my
heart!

Comments: I think it's really a shame that "The Crossroads", formerly and
better known as "The Big House" has to close down. It's really a great place
for many kids (like me) to go after school! Chuck Jewell is really a great
man, and he deserves to keep it in business. As a member of the LHS
Christian Club, We are having a Krispy Kreme sale, and donating the money to
"The Big House"! Any one willing to donate money to the cause, can stop by
"The Big House". It's located on Lawrence Ave. It's right beside Hallmark.
Stop in and I guarantee that you will like it. Also, I do not see why
churches are taking funds out of "The Big House". They think that it does
nothing, but in my life, I've seen a few people commit theirselves to God,
and I'm thinking "That's one more person that I'll see in Heaven"!

Comments: I agree! Ellwood City (Lincoln High Class of '82) was a wonderful
place to grow up in, with beautiful land and even more beautiful people.
Knowing you could go to any house in town in an emergency, that they would
help you, and they would of course know someone in your family...these

information in Ellwood. I'm glad that I'm growing up in Ellwood, because
there aren't many problems, but if there are, we have a wonderful police
department. I think that having a Christian drop-in center is a great idea

people seem lovely. Anyone remember a BeeJay Tome, well that was her married
name as I knew her, or a Rev. Richard L. Tome (dec.) who used to come to
Ellwood City some time ago. I know them from Bedford, PA as BeeJay was a
teacher and he, of course, was my first pastor. They would always come to
Ellwood City for some reason, but I was too young at the time to know why. I
actually think one of them had relatives there, but the city itself is

Comments: Hi EC: Where are all the people from the class of 1979? I have
been living in Rochester, NY for the past 23 years. I come to EC at least 5
times a year. Some of you have probably met my kids with my dad at the pool.
They spend at least two weeks in the summer with my parents and Easter
recess. They love EC, Pee Wee's hot dogs, and the pool. They find it hard to
believe that their uncle John (Buano) was the manager of the pool for
several years. My dad was the manager for the unbeatable Moose Little League
Baseball team. LHS looks great and brings back many memories. Hope everyone

Comments: As a former resident, having left 32 years ago, I check this site
every couple months to see what bickering may be going on, check the
obituaries, etc. It was really a pleasant surprise to see the success of the
baseball program and the pride it brings to the town...especially when it
was totally unexpected. I spent 14 years in Atlanta and am a
dyed-in-the-wool Braves fan...I know...boring, boring... win, win, win since
1991. Of all those years, '91 was the best (not only because we beat the
Pirates in the NLCS), but because it was totally unexpected. Even finally
winning the World Series in '95 was anti-climactic. Its that first time,
when the hard work (and a little luck) pay off and the detractors are
amazed, and the die-hard fans are ultimately rewarded. Congratulations on a
great season!!!

School 1984. Moved to Florida 1984 and stayed. I married Bob Burris and we

Comments: I should have done this awhile ago, since I've been visiting this
site daily, so here it goes. I wanted to say I am so impressed with the
pictures and info on this site. You do a wonderful job, and I keep hoping
for more pictures, as we have relatives in Ellwood, so I look for the kids
daily. My family teases me that I know more about your city, than ours. We
do not have a site like this in our town. I get tickled at Sound Off, as
most of the people don't realize that your town isn't that bad off. Every
place, whether large or small have those same situations. The people that
are saying get involved are right on target, because until you do, you are
only looking from one side of the perspective. I guess it's always easier to
blame someone else, but you have many wonderful aspects to Ellwood City, and
should love your town.
