VIDEO: Overnight Fire At Ellwood City Bar

Video from multiple Pittsburgh news outlets showcase a fire that ravaged an Ellwood City bar overnight Monday. According to reports, a fire was reported at the Dog Gone Bar and Grill on First Street at around 12:15 a.m. No one was inside at the time and no injuries were reported. Crews were able to get the fire under control in about a half-hour. The state police fire marshal is expected to investigate the cause of the fire. sources: www.wtae.com, www.cbsnews.com

McElwain Motors hosted a Toys For Tots drop off at its dealership this holiday season. The Lawrence County Toys for Tots Foundation picked up the donated toys at the dealership on Tuesday.  The dealership was able to fill three Chevy Silverados with toys and also filled a sligh with toys. VIDEO: “The Pale Blue Eye” Trailer, Filmed In Lawrence County

Netflix has released the trailer for “The Pale Blue Eye,” a Christian Bale movie with scenes filmed in several Lawrence County and nearby locations. The storyline centers on a veteran detective investigating murders, assisted by a detail-oriented young cadet who later becomes legendary horror author, Edgar Allan Poe. Production moved around Western Pennsylvania during filming and includes Lawrence County’s McConnells Mill State Park and Westminster College. Late last year, the film’s production team transformed the Westminster quadrangle into a set depicting the West Point military academy in 1830. A series of events hosted by the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off the first weekend of December. Friday evening, Ellwood City held its “Let There Be Lights” downtown extravaganza that featured street vendors, live performances, and the lighting of the large holiday tree in the community plaza. On Saturday, Lawrence Avenue was greeted with floats, groups and trucks as part of the annual Christmas Parade. Four Panthers scored to propel Riverside to a 28-0 road victory over the Wolverines Friday night during the Ellwood City Senior Night. After a scoreless first frame, backers Robert Janis and Noah George collected touchdown runs in the second quarter to help the visiting Panthers to an early 14-0 lead. VIDEO: Worker Dies After Falling From Tree

A man died Tuesday in an accident while cutting down a tree on the 400 block of Division Avenue. According to reports, a tree branch fell loose and hit the ladder underneath him causing the man to dangle from a rope around 30 feet in the air. Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers said he didn’t hit the ground but suffered cardiac arrest. He was hanging upside down for about 20 minutes until rescues could lower him to the ground. The man’s identity hasn’t been released.

Riverside made easy work of the visiting Lions Friday night and claimed a playoff berth with their 52-7 blow out victory over New Brighton. Sophomore Elijah Palmer-McCaine rushed for another 115 yards and two touchdowns for the host Wolverines, but it was not enough to overcome a Tigers aerial attack as Ellwood City was defeated 42-13 Friday night at Helling Stadium in a WPIAL Class 2A Midwestern Conference game.
