Ellwood City Wolverines fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 8-1 loss to Riverside on Wednesday. Riverside scored on a single by Will Yasenka, a single by Anthony Tollari, and a fielder’s choice by Ricky Wass in the second inning. Riverside captured the lead in the second inning. With one out in the second inning Will Yasenka drove in one run when he singled. Cristian Cicchinelli earned the win for Riverside. The Lady Wolverines started the season off on the right foot with a 13-3 victory over the Union Scotties on Saturday. The game was halted after 5 innings due to the mercy rule. Anna Ferrucci led the 9 hit attack with 3 singles and 2 runs scored. Natalia Greco added two singles, 3 RBI’s and scored twice. Breonna Streit and Megan Siegfried contributed doubles. 12th Annual International Showcase Enjoyed at Riverside High School

On Tuesday, March 21, over 100 tenth grade World Cultures students with the support of 10 International Club students presented the Twelfth Annual International Showcase of Countries at Riverside High School. Following months of preparation, displays that showcased 33 nations of the world were opened to students in the Riverside district from grade K through 8. 30 Riverside classes with nearly 700 students toured the Showcase this year. In addition, a group of students from Ambridge attended the Showcase for the first time. Nine exchange students currently living in Pennsylvania were participants. It was a battle of the unbeaten in the Ellwood City Adult Basketball League Sunday evening as Big Fun and Turncoats headlined the main event at the Family Center. Big Fun; the defending League Champions, rolled into the night’s action at 3-0 rocking the NWO Wolfpac black and red colors. Past and present teammates from Bradley Grinnen’s football days carried his jersey through Helling Stadium in Ellwood City on Wednesday night. It’s the field the 21-year-old played on during high school. Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. with a mass of Christian burial held Thursday morning in the Holy Redeemer Church.  Memorial contributions in Bradley’s name may be made to his parents and will be used to establish a scholarship in his name. PHOTOS: Lady Panthers Clinch Playoff Berth With Victory

The Riverside Lady Panthers knocked off rival Ellwood City 55-31 to wrap up a season sweep of the Wolverines and also clinch a playoff birth in the WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs Thursday night. The Panthers (14-3 overall, 7-2 section) rebounded from a sluggish first quarter and used two 18-point quarters in the second half to pull away from the host Wolverines.
