PHOTOS: Ellwood City Baseball Senior Night, Game Postponed Due To Rain

Ominous skies surrounding Sanders Field Tuesday afternoon when the Ellwood City Wolverines were set to host Mohawk for the second game of their home-and-home series with the Warriors. The afternoon started with senior recognition for the five Wolverines seniors prior to first pitch, but the game was not able to be completed. The game was halted at a pivital junction due to rain and will resume Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with Ellwood City leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning. PHOTOS: Lady Wolverines Cruise To 10-0 Victory On Senior Night

The Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories on Monday. The Lady Wolverines earned a resounding 10-0 victory over Beaver Falls as part of their Senior Night festivities. The boys baseball team will look for a mini sweep and to match the softball senior night victory when they host Mohawk on Tuesday at Sanders Field in Ewing Park. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Season Begins!!!

The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation (ECABF), one of western Pennsylvania’s oldest amateur baseball programs, held their 73rd Annual Opening Day on Saturday at the Ewing Park Baseball Complex. Players from the Little League, Minor League, Farm League and Tee-Ball League participated in a parade to Freidhoff Field-the home of the first Little League program, in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer counties. Seventeen teams, led by Mayor Anthony Court, were greeted by the Ellwood City Wolverines’ Head Coach Chris Weisz, his staff and varsity players. Ellwood City Wolverines baseball and softball teams rebounded from losses earlier in the week as each earned victories on Friday. Riverside Panthers were dinged early in their loss to Hopewell on Friday. Nardone Tosses Gem, Wolverines Defeat Beaver Falls To Clinch Playoff Berth

Will Nardone pitched a complete game 2-hitter to lead Ellwood City to a 5-2 playoff-clinching victory over Beaver Falls at Sanders Field on Tuesday. Nardone surrendered only two singles, did not allow an earned run, and struck out two batters across his seven inning performance. The Ellwood City Varsity Softball made quick work of Quaker Valley in a doubleheader sweep Monday while both the Riverside and Ellwood City boys baseball teams earned blow out victories. The Ellwood City Wolverines track and field teams earned victories over Union Area this past weekend at Union. For the boys, in its 105-44 victory, Brennen Marsh (200m) 26.1., Anthony Spadafore (400m) 59.5., Marley Schwiger (800m) 2:11.5., Nolan Currain (1600m) 5:30.1., and Kaiden Schlicenrull (3200m) 12:20.8. earned first place finishes for Ellwood City. Brayden Hendrickson collected individual first place finishes in the 100 hurdles (18.9) and 300 hurdles (50.0) to help the Wolverines. EC Varsity Softball Team Beats Keystone Oaks In 9 Innings

After a tough loss to Avonworth in which both the defense and offense struggled, the Lady Wolverines put together their most balanced team effort Saturday afternoon at Keystone Oaks to secure a 5-4 extra inning victory over the Golden Eagles. The pitching was solid, seven different players banged out 17 hits, and the defense turned in their best performance on the young season by committing just one error. Wolverines Junior High Softball Holds On For Victory; Varsity Baseball Defeated By Vikings

The Ellwood City junior high softball team was able to stave off a 10-run fourth inning and subsequent rallying attempts by Beaver to preserve a 13-12 victory on Friday at Beaver. The Wolverines jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but saw the host Bobcats post a 10-run fourth inning to take its first lead of the ballgame. EC Boys Tennis Wraps Up Season With Victory; EC Softball Suffers First Defeat

The Ellwood City boys tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a victory Thursday afternoon while the Wolverines softball team suffered its first defeat of its regular season earlier in the week.  Also, the Riverside Panthers baseball team cruised to a 22-0 victory over Summit Academy.
