New Brighton Historical Society Receives Grant Says Bernstine

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) awarded a $25,000 grant to the New Brighton Historical Society in Beaver County, announced Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence). “The society provides a valuable service to our residents and the state grant will go toward preserving the history and heritage of Beaver County, which dates back more than 50 years,” said Bernstine. “It is very satisfying to know that we are giving a significant piece of local history a new, fresh look. Ellwood City Board Of Directors Meeting Scheduled

The Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors has scheduled a meeting a Special Board Meeting. The meeting will take place on June 24th, 2021 and will begin a 7:00 p.m. The meeting is scheduled for the purpose of approving the Act 93 contract, other contracts, and any other general business purposes that may come before the board. This meeting will be held in the Lincoln Jr./Sr. High School Board Room.


100th Anniversary of Ewing Park Baseball Complex This Friday

The Ewing Park Baseball Complex will mark its’ 100th anniversary on Friday, June 18. On this day in 1921, the first baseball game was played at the newly-constructed Ewing Park Baseball Field. On that Saturday afternoon, the Ellwood City Shelby county league team defeated Hubbard, Ohio, 20-9. Steel Production Underway at Tenaris’s First Melt Shop In Koppel

Steel production is now underway at Tenaris’s first melt shop in the United States that will soon supply steel bars for its seamless pipe mills in the States and Canada. Dan Parson Named Northside Primary School’s Principal

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted Thursday night to officially hire Dan Parson as Northside Primary School’s Principal at a salary of $88,000. All board members voted yes with Directors Jennifer Tomon and Kathleen McCommons absent from the vote. Parson was named interim principal during an August 4, 2020 special meeting of the board, where directors accepted the early retirement of then principal Christine Gibbons. Before his official appointment, Parson discussed some of the initiatives, activities, and plans for Northside. First 2021 Beautification Award Presented

The 1st “Mayor Court’s 2021 Beautification Award” was presented to Emrica Shaffer and Michael Frisk of 232 Hazel Avenue. “Looks great,” said Mayor Court in a statement. “They did a beautiful job-all around!” The winners were presented with a yard sign and a gift certificate from a local restaurant. BC3 Expands College Within The High School Progam

(Butler, PA) Eligible sophomores through seniors from any high school this fall can earn affordable, transferrable college credits through remote-instruction courses offered by a Butler County Community College program. BC3’s College Within the High School program will offer five three-credit courses during afternoons and evenings. College algebra, college writing, general psychology, intermediate algebra and productivity applications can be taken by “any student, anywhere,” said Erin Cioffi, BC3’s assistant director of high school programming. Wampum Park is a local park that over the years had began to get run down and was in need of repairs and updates and when Karen Goebel saw this, she knew someone needed to do something. After a rain cancellation caused Lincoln High School to move their graduation day, the Class of 2021 finally got to accept their diplomas. The Class of 2021, along with friends and family, all gathered together on Monday at Helling Stadium to see the students receive their diplomas. Even though the rain was still there on the big day, that didn’t stop the graduates from walking across the stage and getting the diplomas that they all worked so hard for.
