Ellwood City To Plan Hard-to-Recycle Event

The Borough of Ellwood City has scheduled a hard-to-recycle collection event next month. The event, sponsored by the Lawence-Mercer Recycling/Solid Waste Department, will be held on Tuesday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The recycling event will take place at the Ellwood City Public Works garage located at 105 Sixth Street in Ellwood City This session is open to borough residents only, and no commercial or institutional materials will be accepted. Community Garden Poster Contest

The Department of Public Works is holding a Poster Contest for children ages 4 and 12. “The community garden is a fantastic project for Ellwood City! I am elated to see our community work together for the greater good,” said Rhiannon Schnell, the secretary of  Public Works and Code Enforcement. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include NOTICE The Ellwood City Area Public Library will be taking return books starting on Tuesday June 9. Local Church Hosting Pizza Giveaway

Christ Presbyterian Church will be holding a community pizza give away at the church on Friday, June 12 from 4:oo PM until 6:00 PM (or when the pizza runs out, which ever comes first). The church ordered from two pizza places in town: Johnny’s and Domino’s. In total, the church purchased 100 pizzas. 2020 Lawrence County Fair Canceled

The Coronavirus pandemic that swept our planet these past few months might have seemed to cease, but the aftermath is far from over. Many local festivals and fairs, including the annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, and Foods Festival, have been cancelled and most recently, the Lawrence County Fair has been cancelled. In a social media post Wednesday afternoon the Ellwood City Community Enrichment (ECCE) announced the cancellation of the 2020 Summer Concert Series. The statement reads: Our top priority is to keep our musicians, community and volunteers healthy and safe during this usual time. Therefore, the concert series committee has made a tough decision to cancel the 2020 Summer Concert Series due to COVID-19. Any donations received this year will help fund the 2021 concert seires. ECASD Educators Planning Parade As Summer Send Off For Students

The educators in the Ellwood City School District wanted one last chance to see the faces of their beloved students before the end of the school year … even if it is at a safe social distance. Their solution: A parade. Organizers and ECASD Elementary Counselors Debbie Wiech and Chrissy Mendillo said so far 120 staff, faculty, and administrators have “signed up” to participate. “We hope this shows the love and dedication we have for our students,” Wiech said. Word Alive Church Showcases Drive-In Easter Service

Word Alive Church celebrated Resurrection Day live never before on Sunday. The Ellwood City church offered its one hour service on Sunday via drive in and online. Drive-in guests parked their vehicles in respective spots facing the church and tuned their car radio to 88.3 FM to hear the worship service. All children (age 3-11) who attended received a special Easter gift bag. Annual Earth Day Event Cancelled, Virtual Art Contest Announced

The Lawrence County Earth Day Committee announced the cancellation of the annual Earth Day festivities.  The event will be replaced with a virtual art contest. In the statement received this week, the committee stated, “We are committed to keeping our visitors safe and healthy at Earth Day; therefore, the Lawrence County Earth Day Committee has decided to cancel the event scheduled for April 18th in Ewing Park.” In lieu of holding the event, a virtual art contest for all ages will be held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day.
