POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. Repeated Car Theft On June 28 at 1:17 AM ECPD responed to the area of Park Ave. and Seventh Street after a reporting party observed two males (one in white and the other in red) getting into a parked vehicle and grabbing items out of the car. Local Given Proclamation For Heroic Actions

On Monday, July 20, 2020, Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a  proclamation to Evan Barton. Last week Barton performed a heroic deed,  by rescuing a women from a burning vehicle. Evan Barton was traveling  into Ellwood City on Woodside Avenue when he observed a vehicle in front  of his vehicle. The vehicle was smoking and appeared to be on fire. After repeated attempts, Evan was able to get the attention of the driver who eventually pulled off the side of the roadway with the vehicle on fire. Mayor Urges Community to Slow Down; Council Hires Part-Time Officer

During Monday’s Borough Council Meeting, Mayor Anthony Court had one message for the community: Slow down and obey traffic signs. Court warned that if he continues to receive complaints about speeding and other traffic violations, police will setup points of surveillance and tickets will be issued. “Gotta slow down,” Court said. “It’s that simple.” He said numerous complaints have been made about violations on Sunset Boulevard and Perry Street as well as other areas in the borough. Letter To The Editor: Chaos on EC School Board

I spent the last 12 years on the Ellwood City School Board before stepping down in December at the end of my third term. Through that experience, I have first-hand knowledge of how this Board operates. The way this Board has treated Superintendent Joe Mancini is a disgrace. Riverside School District Announces Return To School Plan

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. PLAY BALL! Koppel Baseball Scrimmage Game Played After Renovations

A short scrimmage game took place Friday evening in Koppel Borough after the Potter Baseball Tour visited and spend hours working on the borough baseball field. Borough volunteers helped put the finishing touches on the refurbished Sixth Avenue Baseball Field. Led by former Ellwood City pitching ace Jeff Potter, this elite team not only plays a month-long schedule against ball teams all over the northeast, they also perform community service in every town they visit.  The Potter’s Pirates spent three days laboring on the Historic Koppel diamond to make this pick-up game a reality. ECASD: Mancini Out, Shipley In As Interim Superintendent

In a special meeting Friday night, the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Superintendent Joseph Mancini (effective September 22, 2020), voted to put him on administrative leave with pay until that date, and replaced him with Interim Superintendent Dr. Wes Shipley. Board President Renee Pitrelli; Board Vice President Gary Rozanski; and Directors Barbara Wilson, Matt Morella, Jean Biehls, Norman Boots, and Kathleen McCommons supported the moves.
