Library Activities for the week of August 10

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. All patrons must wear a mask when entering the lobby and wait until there are less than three people in the lobby….

Ellwood City SD Offers District Reopening Plan Q&A

In a published document on the Ellwood City School District website, the school offers question and answer document for parents regarding the district’s reopening plans.  The reopening plan was posted on the school district website on July 31. 1. Concerns with hour delay in morning, why morning and not afternoon, please consider afternoon? Lessons will be posted and the teachers will hold office hours during this time. Riverside SD Reopening Parent Letter

In a letter published on the school district website this week, Riverside Beaver County School District Administration Team provided more information on its reopening plans including instructional plans and Chromebook distribution: Dear Parents/Guardians of Riverside Students, As the upcoming school year rapidly approaches, the administration and the members of the Riverside Beaver County Board of Education recognize the questions and concerns relating to the return of school and the upcoming procedures we will follow within the district. PHOTOS: EC 12U Softball Team Defeats Wilmington, Wins Regular Season Title With Record Of 12-2

The Lady Wolverines put together another solid team effort and defeated Wilmington on Tuesday evening in a battle for the #1 seed. Ellwood City came away with a hard fought 6-4 victory. Ellwood City got the scoring started in the top of the 1st inning. Kennedy Brown led off the game with a walk and stole second base. She advanced to third on an infield single by Amber McQuistion and scored on an rbi groundout by Sara Schwarz. 7th Annual Pine Valley Ride for Hope Scheduled In September

Pine Valley’s annual motorcycle Ride for Hope on September 12th is just 5 weeks away. This year, a meal will be served and will be accompanied by musical entertainment provided by the classic rock band Street Level. All proceeds benefit Pine Valley Camp, now in it’s 25th year of serving at-risk youth. The event will go on rain or shine, and in case of rain a shorter bike route will be taken. The cost is $30 for drivers, $15 for passengers, and $15 for walk-in diners. Drivers get a shirt and both passengers and drivers get a meal as well….

Longtime Local Grocery Store Loccisano’s To Close; To Re-Open As Shop ‘n Save

For over a century, residents of Ellwood City have gone to locally owned and operated Loccisano’s for any and all of their grocery based needs. People have come miles to fill suitcases and coolers full with the meat they sell. However, this week, the business that has lived in this town since 1916 announced its upcoming closure.  The grocery store will close after business on Sunday, August 16, 2020.  The store will reopen as Dave’s Hometown Shop ‘n Save on Monday, August 17, 2020 under new local ownership. Delmar Golf Course Crowns Club Champion

Sam Barry, Jr. collected his 10th Delmar Golf Course Club Championship last weekend at Delmar Golf Course. Barry Jr. took home the title with a 1-up victory over Michael Pope. Joey Hudson earned top honors as the A-Flight Champion with a 3/2 victory over Noah Rinker and Zac Carr collected the B-Flight championship with a 1-up victory over Chris Weisz. American Legion Post 157 Passes Resolution

Riverside Graduate Takes Home 2nd In Golf Tournament

Justin Hand might’ve just celebrated graduating from Riverside High School, but he’s already back into the swing of things in tournament golf. Hand came in second place this past weekend at the WPGA Junior Championship. He finished with a total gross of 69, falling one short from the 1st place winner Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburgh. “All Aboard Ellwood” Comes Rolling In

A local group that calls themselves “All Aboard Ellwood” began 3 years ago in hopes to be able to commemorate Ellwood City’s once thriving railroad industry. The community focused volunteer group was able obtain a piece of property at the corner of Fifth Street and Spring Avenue which started the next phase of their plain; gaining a rail car of some type or a replica of a historical railroad building.
