COACH TALK: Ellwood City Track Under New Tutelage

The Ellwood City Track & Field team will be under new tutelage this spring and the group of athletes will look to overcome a bit of adversity. $3.3 million dollars in renovations for Helling Stadium will begin in April. The work includes the installation of a new artificial turf field, new lighting, and a completely redone track. Work that will uproot the Wolverines from a home track, forcing practices to be held at neighboring Riverside’s track facility and all meets to be on the road this season, but none of that will affect the team’s performance according to new coach…


Mayor Court Presents Proclamations To Eagle Scouts

Mayor Anthony J. Court had the honor of presenting proclamations to two (2) Eagle Scouts on Monday, March 28, at their meeting held at The First Methodist Church. The Eagle Scouts were Hayden Slade and Grady Smith. Hayden is an 11th grader at Lincoln High School and a member of the Lincoln High School Blue Band Marching Band, LHS Choir, and LHS musical. As of 2021, he was a 6-year Carson Scholar. His Eagle Project was the “Moraine State Park Bicycle Maintenance Station”. Jehovah’s Witnesses Area Congregations Returning to In-Person Meetings

All congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses, including those in nearby Beaver Falls, Zelienople, and Butler, are being encouraged to begin holding in-person meetings during the week of April 1. For most of the last two years, buildings for worship have remained closed globally due to the risks associated with meeting in person. Jehovah’s Witnesses in the U.S. also suspended their public ministry on March 20, 2020. Since that time, they have carried on their ministry through letters and phone calls while holding twice-weekly meetings in a virtual format. Wolverines Softball Wins Opener, Defeats New Brighton 17-1

The Lady Wolverines opened up their season with a convincing 17-1 victory over New Brighton on Friday afternoon. The game was halted after 5 innings due to the mercy rule. The offense banged out 13 hits on the day. Kyla Servick led the way with 3 hits including a triple. Julia Nardone, Aliya Garroway, and Paige Wearing each had two hits apiece. Ellwood City baseball and softball teams each earned WPIAL playoffs berths last year and each program will look to continue to build on last year’s success in their respective 2022 campaigns. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

BURGLARY: William Balin, Jr., 32, of Ellwood City, is charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespassing after an incident on March 21st. According to the criminal complaint, at appropriately 11:00 a.m. police were advised the Ellwood City Sewer department was broke into over the weekend. Upon investigation, there were two signs of forced entry into the building on Wampum Avenue and a gas powered generator and power washer were missing.
