Born November 17, 1934 in Ellport, he was the son of the late Denes and Margaret Falcsik Veres. He was married to Wilma Chiez Veres. John graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. He worked at the B&W for over 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Local 1082 Steelworkers Union, Elks Club, and the Holiday Ramblers Vacation Club Chapter 436.
