POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

MISSING PERSON: Pennsylvania State Police received reports of a missing person on December 29, 2021. It is reported Lauren Cortez, 32, of New Castle, had left her residence with a known male on December 28th at approximately 4:45 p.m. and last spoke with her parents at 7:35 p.m. relating she was traveling to College Hill in Beaver Falls with the known male and two unknown males. No contact with Cortez has been made since. Cortez is a white female, 5’1″ and 125 lbs with red or auburn hair, and green eyes. She was last seen wearing gray leggings, gray Echo…


Wolverines Cruise To Christmas Tournament Championship

Ellwood City traveled north for the Mercer Christmas Tournament and found no resistance in District 10 as the Wolverines earned the tournament championship Tuesday evening. The defending WPIAL Class-3A Champions defeated Saegertown 77-36 on Monday and then host Mercer 74-49 on Tuesday. The Splash Brothers, Alexander and Joseph Roth, each scored 47 points over the two-game tournament. Senior Alexander had a game-high 24 points Monday while sophomore Joseph scored a game-high 25 points Tuesday in the championship game. Tomak Scores 5 Goals, Leads Wilmington Hockey To Victory

The Wilmington Co-op Hockey team upset a first place Carrick hockey team by a score of 9-8 Monday behind an impressive five goal game by Ellwood City senior Drake Tomak. The visiting Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-1 first period and 9-4 advantage after two periods before holding off Carrick for the victory. Tomak lit the lamp twice in the first period with assists from Logan Popovich (Wilmington) and Davis Phanco (Wilmington). Donald W. Buzard, Sr., 78

After a two-year battle with lung cancer, Mr. Don W. Buzard Sr., 78 of Ellwood City passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, in the Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver on December 20, 2021. Born May 26, 1943 to Wade & Viette Buzard, Don spent his life in Ellwood, save for a four-year tour with the US Navy, which came after graduating from Lincoln High School in 1961. After returning home from the Navy, he met Mary Kathryn DeNome, whom he married May 14, 1966. From there, Don & Mary Kay brought into the world three sons: Don Jr. (Jennifer Cvetnic)…
