Alexander “Alex” Scott Hohbach, age 34, formerly of Ellwood City passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 18, 2022 at his residence in West Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He was born on January 8, 1988 to Holly and Allen Hohbach. Alex attended Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and received his GED in June 2007. He continued his education at Butler County Community College with an associates degree in General Studies. After college he spent his time doing traveling sales. Riverside Lions Donate Candy, Aid In Tornado Relief Efforts In Kentucky

The Riverside Lions recently got involved in two noteworthy causes. The club got to help distribute a large amount of donated leftover Christmas candy, cookies and bake goods to six different organizations. “We were able to give to Riverside Angel Fund, Ellwood City School District, Beaver Falls School District, Central Valley School District, Holy Redeemer Social Services and the Portersville Food Bank,” says King Lion Chip Campbell. Wolverines Connect On 14 3-Pointers, Cruise To 72-42 Opening Round Victory

Ellwood City came out firing from deep Monday night as they easily ousted visiting Summit Academy 72-42 in the opening round of the WPIAL Class-3A Playoffs Monday night. The Wolverines finished with 14 3-pointers in the contest, including five in a 23-point first quarter outburst. Ellwood City led by a dozen after the first quarter and never looked back. Riverside Lions Club Celebrates 60th Anniversary

The Riverside Lions Club celebrated its 60th Anniversary at the meeting held earlier this month on Wednesday, February 9th. The meeting was attended by 2nd VDG Maria Loudermilk, and Pam Flara, both members of the Riverside/Hopewell Branch Club. The club played games and 2VDG Maria gave out some prizes, we also enjoyed some cake.  There were handouts with information about what happened in 1962 and the price of things back then. Wolverines Open Up Playoffs Against Summit Academy

Ellwood City opens up its WPIAL title defense Monday night against Summit Academy at Lincoln High School at 7:00 p.m. in the opening round of the 2022 WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs. Head coach Steve Antuono is preparing his #1 seeded team for its first round opponent. “The seeding was expected after our body of work, however Summit Academy is very athletic,” said Antuono. “Their record doesn’t indicate how good they are and what type of athleticism and size we are up against. Gallenz Earns Three Victories, Allen Earns 7th Place In WPIAL Wresting Championships

Ellwood City wrestlers Ben Gallenz and Derek Allen each earned three victories in the WPIAL AA Wrestling Championships over the weekend at Canon-McMillan High School. Allen earned a 7th place finish while Gallenz was defeated in the third consolation round of his weight class. Fellow wrestler, and senior, Donovan Stiffler earned two victories in his weight classes. Gallenz earned an opening round victory over Zander Nuttal (Derry), by fall 4-0 at 2:55 but was defeated in the Championship round of 16 by Davis Stepp (Beth Center) 12-2 at 2:48. A major weather event brought persistent rain to the area throughout the day on Thursday leading to major flooding concerns and local road closures. Below is aerial video footage of the flood damages of the Connoquenessing River near the Riverside School District and the Connoqunessing Country Club.  The river crested and put parts of Mercer Road and Country Club Drive underwater. Riverside Archery Team Hosting State Qualifying Tournament This Weekend

Riverside Archery’s first at home tournament is this weekend in the high school gym. The state qualifying archery tournament begins Saturday, with eight flights on the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Individual awards for Top 5 girls and Top 5 boys in each division: Middle School and High School. The top two team awards for each division: Middle School and High School. The tournament will have normal flight arrangements with two archers per shooting lane shooting at the same time. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

TERRORISTIC THREATS: On February 12 at approximately 11:35 a.m. PSP New Castle was dispatched to a domestic in progress on State Line Road, Enon Valley, Lawrence County. According to the report, it was found that a Kenneth Borer, 33, of Enon Valley, had threatened a 32-year-old female victim with a gun and also punched her in the face multiple times. After a short standoff Borer came out of the house and was taken into custody. Borer was arraigned for charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, harrassment, and bond was set at $10,000.
