Nardone Tosses Gem, Wolverines Defeat Beaver Falls To Clinch Playoff Berth

Will Nardone pitched a complete game 2-hitter to lead Ellwood City to a 5-2 playoff-clinching victory over Beaver Falls at Sanders Field on Tuesday. Nardone surrendered only two singles, did not allow an earned run, and struck out two batters across his seven inning performance. The Ellwood City Varsity Softball made quick work of Quaker Valley in a doubleheader sweep Monday while both the Riverside and Ellwood City boys baseball teams earned blow out victories. Wolverines Softball Sweeps Quaker Valley; Showdown With Avonworth Wednesday A young and inexperienced Quaker Valley squad visited Steifel Park Monday for a doubleheader and the Lady Wolverines took care of business in workman like fashion. The Ellwood City Wolverines track and field teams earned victories over Union Area this past weekend at Union. For the boys, in its 105-44 victory, Brennen Marsh (200m) 26.1., Anthony Spadafore (400m) 59.5., Marley Schwiger (800m) 2:11.5., Nolan Currain (1600m) 5:30.1., and Kaiden Schlicenrull (3200m) 12:20.8. earned first place finishes for Ellwood City. Brayden Hendrickson collected individual first place finishes in the 100 hurdles (18.9) and 300 hurdles (50.0) to help the Wolverines. Guy Prestia Celebrates 100th Birthday

Guy Prestia was listed as the ‘most ambitious boy’ of the outstanding seniors in Lincoln High School’s 1940 Ellwoodian. Now, 82 years later, ambitious still describes the World War II veteran as he celebrates his 100th birthday, which is Tuesday, April 26. The Ellwood City native, now a North Sewickley Township resident, still drives around Ellwood City, remains active at Park Gate Baptist Church, is a frequent speaker at veterans gatherings and speaks to students in area schools. EC Varsity Softball Team Beats Keystone Oaks In 9 Innings

After a tough loss to Avonworth in which both the defense and offense struggled, the Lady Wolverines put together their most balanced team effort Saturday afternoon at Keystone Oaks to secure a 5-4 extra inning victory over the Golden Eagles. The pitching was solid, seven different players banged out 17 hits, and the defense turned in their best performance on the young season by committing just one error. Wolverines Junior High Softball Holds On For Victory; Varsity Baseball Defeated By Vikings

The Ellwood City junior high softball team was able to stave off a 10-run fourth inning and subsequent rallying attempts by Beaver to preserve a 13-12 victory on Friday at Beaver. The Wolverines jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but saw the host Bobcats post a 10-run fourth inning to take its first lead of the ballgame. EC Boys Tennis Wraps Up Season With Victory; EC Softball Suffers First Defeat

The Ellwood City boys tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a victory Thursday afternoon while the Wolverines softball team suffered its first defeat of its regular season earlier in the week.  Also, the Riverside Panthers baseball team cruised to a 22-0 victory over Summit Academy. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HIT & RUN: PA State Police responded to a report of a hit/run crash on April 8th at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wurtemburg Road, Wayne Township. According to the police report, the complainant claimed that he observed fresh damage to the property owner’s yard and a damaged/dirt covered vehicle, a 2000 Jaguar S-Type, in a nearby church parking lot. Upon arrival to the scene, contact was made with the owner of the vehicle who was currently attempting to have the vehicle towed. After investigation, the driver, Nicholas Nazari, 21, of Ellwood City, was identified and charged accordingly for numerous traffic…
