Q&A: Ellwood Native Author Coming To Town For Meet And Greet

Ellwood City native, Cassandra Douglas, has now published two children’s books in her Ellwood City Tales series and will be in town on Saturday, August 14th at 9:00 a.m, for a meet and greet at the Farmer’s Market and will be signing books. Extra copies of each of the books will be sold at the event and will be available for signing. James “Sabu” DeCaria, 86

James “Sabu” DeCaria, 86, of Port Huron, Michigan, formerly of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 13, 2021, in Port Huron after an extended illness. Sabu was born March 21, 1935 in Ellwood City to the late Antonio and Rose Orrico DeCaria. He was a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1954 and served honorably in the United States Air Force and in 1963 moved to Port Huron where he lived until his passing. Route 288 Zelienople Road Improvements Begin Next Week in Franklin Township

In its official press release, PennDOT District 11 has announced the long-term closure of a section of Zelienople Road (Route 288) in Franklin Township, Beaver County, that will begin Monday morning, July 26 weather permitting. A section of Zelienople Road between Lake Road and Old Furnace Road will close to through traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Monday continuously through early November as work begins on the Route 288 realignment project. Improvement work includes roadway realignment, paving, storm sewer installation, grading and subbase work, sign upgrades, guiderail updates, and pavement marking installation. Shirley (Gills) Scott, 86, of Morristown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 2, 2021 in Phoenix, AZ, surrounded by loving family. Shirley was born on October 28, 1934, to the late Howard and Nina (Abernathy) Gills in Ellwood City, PA. She is survived by her husband, Edward Scott, whom she met in Ellwood City As high school sweethearts they spent 70 years together and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Franklin Community Park Announces Summer Story Time

Time for some tales. Franklin Community Park will be hosting Summer Story Time for children and parents to come do story time together. The event is once a week and will take place every Thursday starting at 1:30 p.m. There already have been a few story times but the event will continue Thursday, July 15, July 22, and with the last story time being on Thursday, July 29th. VIDEO: Route 288 Detour Near Zelienople Airport Announced

At a virtual public meeting held on Monday, Joe Neubert, project manager for Independence Excavating, announced that the realignment of Route 288 at Zelienople Road and Route 1010, Lake Road, adjacent to Runway 17 of the Zelienople Municipal Airport, will begin Monday, July 19, 2021. The road closure will begin on July 19, with signs indicating closure dates and detour signs, adding they have been given 102 calendar days for the road closure, with the road to be open on or before October 28, 2021. FORE! The Tee Box Indoor Golf and Sports Lounge in Ellwood City is now officially open for business after hosting their grand opening event this past Friday.
