Shortest Day of the Year

You’ve probably noticed the early sunsets, the late dawns, and perhaps even the low arch of the sun across the sky leading up to this date. That’s right – today is Winter Solstice, the shortest “day” of the year for those in the Northern Hemisphere – not that the day is actually any shorter than 24 hours, but there is overall less daylight. For astronomers and scientists, Winter Solstice signals the official beginning of winter, however, the meteorological winter started three weeks ago at the beginning of December. Despite that the Earth is actually closet to the Sun in December…

Take Advantage of the December Rabies Clinic

Although rabies is a disease that has affected mammals for centuries, a medical breakthrough changed the outcome of this epidemic in 1885 -when the first rabies vaccine was developed by two French scientists, Louis Pasteur and Émile Roux. According to the CDC, these vaccines now save an estimated 16,000-39,000 potential human rabies victims a year in the United States, not including the inestimable amount of pets it saves a year. So why is it important that our pets are vaccinated against rabies? Rabies is a completely preventable disease spread by animals to other animals and humans- it is almost always…

With all the hear-say that the Ellwood Hospital may soon be closing, it’s comforting to know that medical companies are still investing in local practices. Centered inside the Creekside Commons lies a cozy physical therapy office known as NovaCare Rehabilitation. Formally Keystone Physical Therapy, NovaCare Rehabilitation is basically the same but different: after Select Medical took over Keystone in the spring, they have since changed more than just the name, introducing new management and proudly providing patients an even better physical therapy experience than ever before. Tony Sacerino, the appointed physical therapist at the Wampum Ave. location, says that the…
