Police: DUI Motor-Vehicle Assault and Man Attempts to Flee Police

DUI Motor Vehicle Assault

A Beaver Falls man driving a motorcycle was seriously injured by a drunk driver in an incident on May 28. The victim, Michael D. Stevenson, was thrown 25 feet from his vehicle and transported to the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. He has since been released. According to criminal complaint filed on June 16, on May 28 at approximately 9:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Line Avenue and Mt. Vernon Drive for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. The defendant, Michael Louis Rozzi, 47 of Ellwood City, was driving a Ford Focus and appeared intoxicated. Rozzi said he had made a left turn onto Mt. Vernon drive and was unable to tell how close the motorcycle was, resulting in the accident. After failing field sobriety tests, Rozzi was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital for a blood test. Investigating officers found a small plastic bag of suspected cocaine on Rozzi’s person. Rozzi was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of cocaine and driving under the influence of cocaine.

Man Punches Ex-Girlfriend, Attempts to Flee Police

An Ellwood male was apprehended after attempting to elude capture. According to the criminal complaint, on June 14 around 6 a.m., officers were dispatched to Pershing Street in response to a domestic dispute. The victim’s ex-boyfriend, N’Agapa Bumpus, 22, had punched her in the mouth, and she required medical attention. Bumpus is on the Walnut Ridge Housing Authority no-trespass list and had a Beaver County bench warrant. Neighbors informed investigating officers that Bumpus was hiding behind houses in the area. When police found him, Bumpus fled. After a foot chase through the woods, the Ellwood K-9 unit apprehended him. He was charged with flight to avoid apprehension, simple assault, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

Possession of Marijuana

According to the criminal complaint filed on June 16, on April 10 at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to intercept a vehicle being driven erratically on Second Street. When officers arrived, the vehicle was now parked at an apartment on Fifth Street. The defendant, Meranda Lynn Rockwell, 23, of Ellwood City, appeared to have been smoking marijuana. Rockwell gave written permission for officers to search her apartment with the K-9 unit. The search discovered two marijuana grinders containing marijuana, four large water bongs with adapters, rolling papers and a butane lighter. Rockwell was charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances.

Bicycle Theft

According to the criminal complaint, on May 20 at approximately 7:50 p.m., officers responded to a bicycle theft on Church Street in Ellport Borough. The victim stated she chased a young male stealing her son’s Haro BMX bicycle valued at $400. A witness identified the thief as Tylane William Curry, 21, of Ellwood City. Curry returned the bicycle and was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct.
