Rita M. Scopellite, 97

Rita M. Scopellite, 97, formerly of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at her home in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Rita was born on Feb. 3, 1919 in Pittsburgh to the late Sam and Theresa DelGaudio Botte. She was raised in Koppel, Pa. and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. She moved to Ellwood City when she married the love of her life, Anthony Scopellite on Oct. 28, 1939 and they had 42 wonderful years together before he passed away on June 6, 1981.

In the end she felt she led a full and happy life having made it 97 years young, and her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Rita worked at the Ellwood City Knitting Mill for 29 years and was product inspector. She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church before moving to California in 2008. Rita so enjoyed telling her grandchildren about growing up Italian during the Depression. She also taught many to crochet, knit and how to make great Italian meals and cookies. She will be missed by all.

Rita is survived by her son, John of Hemet, Calif. and her daughter, Anita of Huntington Beach, Calif. with whom she lived. She also has five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins, and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dom and Jaye Scopellite of Ellport and Rosemary Richardson of La Puente, Calif., and Gloria Botte of Beaver, Pa. She also leaves behind her dearest friends, Ferma Choff, John DiLeonardo and Grace Scarpetti, the last of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Connie, Jean, and Mary, and brothers, Fred, Paul, and Joe, and also her son-in-law, Kenneth Snow, and former daughter-in-law, Judith Freidhoff Scopellite.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 9:20 a.m.
