Local Boxer Prepares for First Professional Match

Rosalindo Morales Jr. is a 23 year old graduate of Lincoln High who has been pursuing a boxing career since the young age of 13.

After starting boxing as a hobby at the Ellwood City Police Boxing Club, his dedication towards the sport finally paid off when he was recently signed to professionally box full time.

“Being professional has been my main goal since I started. I was excelling in the ranks and I have a lot of experience so I definitely believe I’m ready for the professional league,” he said.

Before starting his professional career as a boxer, Morales had fought in over 70 amateur fights, both nationally and internationally and was named The Western PA Golden Gloves Champion five years in a row as well as The Pennsylvania State Golden Glove Champion in 2016. Morales was also a qualifier in the 2015 U.S. Olympics trials.

His first professional match is Saturday, August 12 at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh where he will box against Adam Young of Memphis, Tennessee.

Morales says his mother has been his biggest support throughout the years and is looking forward to his professional career.

“She is really excited and hopeful for the competition, she has been there for me from the start,” he stated.

Morales Jr. hopes his professional career will open up many options for him in the future, while his next big pursuit is becoming the boxing World Champion.
