Ellwood City Man Facing Felony Charge for Injury-Causing Hit and Run

According to the criminal complaint, Michael Ray Magill Jr., 38, of Eidenmiller Lane, has been charged by state police as a result of causing serious bodily injury during a crash and fleeing the scene.

On June 2, an officer was dispatched to the area near 2590 Chewton Wurtemburg Road for a report of a two vehicle crash, in addition the officer was advised that multiple subjects fled from the scene.

Upon arrival the officer observed a disabled Ford Focus, belonging to George Richard Weller, with no driver or passengers in the vehicle. A prescription pill bottle belonging to Magill was found in the trunk.

The owner of the vehicle stated he was allowing Magill to use the vehicle, and upon further investigation officers were later able to identify Magill as the driver of the vehicle.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was observed on its roof to the west. The operator of that vehicle advised that he was traveling east on Chewton Wurtemburg Road when he observed the black vehicle ahead back out of a driveway onto the roadway, traveling slowly west, at which point then veering into the opposite lane of traffic striking his vehicle.

The injured driver, who suffered a fractured vertebrae, stated he witnessed four actors exit the vehicle and flee the scene. The passenger sustained a concussion and bruised ribs.

Magill will be facing a felony charge of accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, and summery offenses of registration and certificate of title required, required financial responsibility, driving on roadways laned for traffic, careless driving, duty to give information and render aid, and immediate notice of accident to police department.
