Stiefel Park Batting Practice: Lady Wolverines Hit 2 Homers and Improve to 10-0

Grove City entered Friday evening’s non section game with 11 home runs on the season. The Lady Wolverines won the home run battle and the game with a 9-5 victory. Breonna Streit and Megan Siegfried provided 5 of the rbi’s with a 2 run shot and a 3 run blast respectively.

Grove City started the scoring with a leadoff single, a walk, a stolen base, and a throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Ellwood City took the lead in the second inning as they pushed 4 runs across the plate. Natalia Greco led it off with a walk. Streit sacrificed her over to second. Eisabela Miller hit a line shot single into right field to score Greco. After back to back singles by Siegfried and Brooklyn Magill loaded the bases, Ariana Garroway plated Miller and Siegfried with a frozen rope single into left center field. Zoe Kalantzis scored Magill with a sacrifice fly to the wall in left field to take a 4-1 lead after three complete.

Grove City cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the 3rd courtesy of a walk and 2 doubles with no outs. Skyla Greco calmly left the tying run on second base as she got 3 consecutive pop ups to catcher Garroway, second baseman Streit and centerfielder Anna Ferrucci.

As has been the case all season long, the Wolverines answered the bell in the bottom half of the third inning as they scored 2 runs to take a 6-3 lead. Natalia Greco started the inning off and crushed a double to the wall in left center field. Streit then drove a fastball over the center field fence for a 2 run homer.

The Wolverines increased their lead to 9-3 in the home half of the 5th inning. After back to back walks to Streit and Miller, Siegfried launched a 3 run bomb 215 feet into right center field.

Grove City cut the lead to 9-5 in the top of the 6th with a double and 2 run homer. Greco put the fire out once again as she got the final 6 outs with 3 strikeouts, 2 groundouts, and a flyout.

Overall, it was a great team victory over a quality opponent. Offensively, 6 Wolverine hitters combined for 12 hits, including 4 of the extra base variety. The defense was solid once again as the first inning error was the only one committed during the contest. Skyla Greco was solid in the circle against a very good hitting team. The senior righty went 7 complete for the win. She scattered 8 hits with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.

The Wolverines will play next on Tuesday evening at Stiefel Park vs. Steel Valley. First pitch for Senior Night will be 6:15.
