Ellwood City Wolverines Can’t Quite Erase 6-Run Deficit in Loss to South Side

Ellwood City Wolverines‘s effort to come back from down six runs in the fourth inning came up just short, as they fell 6-4 to South Side on Wednesday. Ellwood City Wolverines scored four runs in the failed comeback on a fielder’s choice by Tyler Good in the fifth, a single by Noah Rinker in the fifth, and a single by Rick Pitrelli in the seventh.

Ellwood City Wolverines couldn’t keep up with South Side early in the game. South Side scored on a fielder’s choice by Jake McDougal in the first inning, a double by Nate Statler in the second inning, and a single by Ethan Woodling in the second inning.

South Side captured the lead in the first inning. McDougal hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.

Ellwood City Wolverines scored three runs in the fifth inning. Ellwood City Wolverines’s big inning was driven by a fielder’s choice by Tyler Good and a single by Noah Rinker.

Casey Jones earned the win for South Side. He went five innings, giving up three runs, five hits, and striking out two. Luke Woodard recorded the last six outs to earn the save for South Side. Good took the loss for Ellwood City Wolverines. He tossed four innings, giving up six runs, eight hits, and striking out three.

Anthony Roth went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Ellwood City Wolverines in hits.

South Side collected eight hits. Woodling, Statler, and Rob Heberle each collected multiple hits for South Side.

 

 

 

Riverside Panthers Varsity Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Avonworth

Riverside Panthers Varsity and Avonworth played a taut affair on Wednesday, but Riverside Panthers Varsity eventually prevailed 4-3 after taking the lead for good in the sixth inning. The game was tied at three with Riverside Panthers Varsity batting in the bottom of the sixth when Danny Fox doubled off of Felter, driving in one run.

Avonworth captured the lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Avonworth.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Riverside Panthers Varsity tied things up at three. An error scored one run for Riverside Panthers Varsity.

Cristian Cicchinelli earned the win for Riverside Panthers Varsity. He tossed four innings, allowing zero runs, three hits, and striking out five. Felter took the loss for Avonworth. He went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run, three hits, and walking zero.

Adam Jeannette started the game for Riverside Panthers Varsity. He tossed three innings, giving up three runs, three hits, and striking out three. Grau started the game for Avonworth. He pitched four and a third innings, giving up three runs, four hits, and striking out three.

Danny Fox and Austin Dambach each drove in one run to lead Riverside Panthers Varsity.

Cubellis went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Avonworth in hits.
