Mount Airy Casino Public Hearing Next Week

Mount Airy targets early to mid-2020 opening of its Big Beaver mini-casino, the facility will look to attract customers from neighboring Ohio

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will hold a public hearing next week for the proposed Mount Airy Casino planned to be built in Big Beaver Borough next year.

According to the application made available earlier this week, the proposed 110-acre site will be located on the north side of 1-76, east of 1-376 and south of Fairlane Boulevard. It is proposed to construct a casino facility consisting of 40 gaming tables (10 seats per table) and 750 slot machines, resulting in 1,150 gaming positions. The casino will hope to expand to 40 gaming tables when permitted and very conservatively assumed ten (10) seats per table.

Although the application did not provide economic details for its project – a mini-casino offering a buffet, food court, sports bar, a second bar, and coffee outlet, casino officials previously stated expectations of creating hundreds of construction-related jobs and permanent positions.

Access to the proposed casino will be made via one full-access driveway to Shenango Road directly opposite Beaver Valley Road and one full-access driveway to Fairlane Boulevard east of the intersection with Shenango Road. The application projects, with two driveways to the facility, to draw over 400 new car trips an hour at peak on a Saturday evening.

The public, community groups, and public officials may participate either through the submission of written comments or by speaking at the hearing. The hearing is scheduled to take place on December 4th at 1:00 pm at the Big Beaver Borough Fire Station #14 social room located at 621 Friendship road, Darlington, PA 16115

Those interested in addressing the Board on December 4th, 2018 can do so by completing the online form below and following the steps. Registration to speak must be submitted through this site no later than noon on Monday, December 3rd, 2018.

Groups and government representatives currently scheduled to speak included Larry Nelson, Beaver County Building Trades; John S. Gobernish, Community College of Beaver County; Local Government Representatives Daniel C Camp III, Chairman, Beaver County Commissioners; Senator Elder Vogel, Representative Jim Marshall, and Jason Landsbach, Big Beaver Borough

“It’s a game changer — it’s a game changer any time a new business comes into the Beaver County region, bringing new jobs into the county,” said Camp in October. “Beaver County has been looking for this entertainment venue to come here and this is our big chance. We’re excited.”
