Ellwood City fell to Aliquippa on Friday, 64-58, even with Broc Boariu scoring 17 points. The game saw no team lead by double-digits and Ellwood City hold a slim lead in the last quarter of play – a drastic turn in play from the meeting between the teams earlier this season.
The Wolverines trailed only 32-31 at half after scoring a game-high 19 points during the second quarter.
Boariu had a great game from the field, making 54% (7-for-13) of shots attempted as well as 38% (3-for-8) of threes attempted. He scored 12 first half points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the contest.
Two other players also added ten or more points for Lincoln. Sean Busby put up 10 points. Anthony Roth sank two three-pointers and scored 17 points total. Also helping the effort for Lincoln were Luca Botti (7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block), Andrew O’Brien (4 points, 2 rebounds), and Rick Pitrelli (3 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal).
William Gipson scored 17 points (13 rebounds, 6 assists) to lead Aliquippa, including 7-of-8 from the free throw strip which helped seal the victory for the Quips. The Wolverines defense held Gipson to 5-of-18 shooting from the field.
Lincoln finished the game with 32 rebounds (11 offensive / 21 defensive), 14 assists, three blocks and four steals. The Wolverines (13-7 overall) will finish their season on the road in a section matchup at Lincoln Park this Tuesday night at 7:30pm
